I like this hire. Not only is he a good coach, but he's operated with Zac, and in Cincinnati before. He knows the situation, and I think he'll be fantastic for the defense.
Notre Dame grad/fan and Bengals season ticket holder here. For what it’s worth, I watch every game ND plays. We had numerous injuries on the defensive side of the ball and still shut down everyone until we got to Ohio State. We couldn’t generate pass rush in the National Championship because we were down 3 starting DL. And, we didn’t have our #1 corner. Ohio State was just too deep and stout. Bengals are getting an excellent coach.
At the end of the day ZT needs all our support! He understands what “NFL” translates to. AG, is a strong selection, Peters same same, I’m still vested in the Bengals success quest. I’m also planning on purchasing my game tickets for this season. Thank you for your updates and Q&A! See you in Cincinnati ✌🏻🫶🏻🏈
ND took Brian Kelly from UC, and the way he left has made me root against ND and anywhere he goes. So ND fans seething about losing their coordinator to the Bengals sounds satisfying.
Nick Saben said it today. I heard him in an interview and he was asked his greatest regret and mistake in his coaching career. Do you know what he said? He said leaving LSU in 2004 was his biggest regret and mistake. He said he enjoyed coaching there more than anywhere he had been. He said going to the NFL was a mistake too. He enjoys coaching and developing college kids because they aren’t pros yet. When you get to the NFL you are the best of the best. Now there is still a lot of room for development and growth but not like college.
Hey James, I have not heard an extensive podcast episode addressing the Bengals problems with an over abundance of injuries to key players and what are the contributing causes of this. Is there a problem with strength and conditioning, lack of enough full pads practices, or over dependance on star players to compensate for average players? A lack of aggressive toughness evident in poor tackling and lack of pursuit and pressure on QB’s. Hopefully smart draft selections and free agency pickups will replace busts like Jermaine Burton. I really enjoy your coverage of the Bengals.
We were one of the healthiest teams in the playoffs during the SB run. Now it seems like we were the most injured team in the league. I have the same question about conditioning. In my opinion, the lack of nutritionists and legitimate chefs on hand in facilities is an issue.
most of the injuries seem to hit our free agent signings as long as mike brown puts family in the front office over real people we will keep hiring injury proned free agents because they are cheap
Atleast we got a top dc candidate this time. Lou wasn't even in zacs top5 when he was hired. Zac had a hard time filling out his coaching staff when he was first hired. Lou is on the older side and this was his first dc job. Lou did a good job when we had Reader, Wilson and Bates in the middle of the defense, but without those three his defences were really bad. His best D was #16th and only two years we were in the top 20. He did great against Mahomes but terrible against bad QBs. It made no sense man
I say wait till the season comes and grade it from there. Let’s see what happens. When J. Chase was drafted he was dropping passes and fans were calling him a bust before the season even started. He’s a triple crown player now. See what it will be before judging. It’s nothing that we can do to change it.
Thank you for acknowledging the difference between being a coach (or player especially) and being a commentator. That very significant distinction is lost on many these days.
It's also questionable draft picks I understand you have to develop players but there was a lot of questions about Miles Murphy coming out. We had offensive line picks not pan out. We used to be great at drafting and now it seems like everyone's a Miss
Love the podcast, hate the "Chicken-little, the sky is falling, the end is near, we are the worst, it'll never get better, fire Zac bc he is the cause of our poor tackling, etc" haters who call themselves fans!
How long did they keep Marvin Lewis my guy? He didn’t even win a single playoff game let alone think about the Super Bowl while Taylor did it within a few years
@@koltonraposo2280because of Zac the bengals achieved something that most teams haven't been able to do in the last decade. Also 4 straight winning seasons and 5 playoff wins. Our weaknesses were defense and o line and those coaches got replaced, what more do you want him to do? You can't just factory reset the entire coaching staff and expect it to work out
@@koltonraposo2280 I just don't see what we would gain from firing Zac. I don't think he's the problem. The team believes in him and burrow. If golden can develop our young players and give us a solid defense we're right back to making deep playoff runs. I think it's silly to blame Zac for 2 lost seasons where burrow hurt his wrist and then Lou not knowing what to do with young talent and screwing up the defense because of it
GOOD JOB FRONT OFFICE! One thing that kills me is that we kick Lou to the curb as washed up and the Colts grab him immediately. Talk about one man's trash is another man's treasure, always cracks me up.....Been that way for decades but still! WHO DEY!

So Zac figured out how to coach at the same time that we got Joe Burrow. What a coincidence. That was the trap we fell into. Once we became successful we forgot why. You think the short leash is the playoffs next year? What happens if we start 1-4. If they are giving Golden a long term deal from the front office. Hell, Golden might be the coach by the middle of next season.
Guys and gals...with the history of The Family theres 95% probability Zac will fullfull his 2yr remaining deal. Hes back minimum thru 2026. ...unless we put up a 4-13 type year in 25 which aint happening and probably would be excused somehow upstairs.
I hope ol Zac can’t call a game Taylor gets it wrong and gets canned early on in the season and we get somebody in here that can and will be a competent coach and win games. No more being a “players coach” we need somebody in here to push these boys to wanna be great
This "wife-net" thing is ridiculous. If they had Al on radar from the beginning it was only the weak CFP bracket ND was gifted is what delayed this. You dont need cursory interviews and a paralysis by analysis approach. Hes been here before has great resume and a dang good football coach. Harping on "process " is not productive even if it's just to fill airtime.
So, if Hill, Battle, and Murphy aren’t all pros next year, Golden gets fired? Looks like front office has sent down the talking points. Develop Duke’s boys!
James, they cant afford to continue to rot with Taylor if they miss playoffs again. 2 years? Man... Burrow is approaching his 30s, you realize this doesnt last forever right?
Zac Taylor not going after elite defensive coordinators that can become a threat to his job. Instead picking a guy who has work under him before and is his neighbor. Taylor is conniving and definitely more worry about his job and position than the welfare of this team. How is this hiring a step up from Lou.
I don’t have any faith in the bengals honestly. These hires mean nothing. The personnel is trash. The scouting department is trash. They haven’t hit on their picks and our team is incredibly thin. We can’t develop offensive linemen anymore. We can’t develop defensive lineman anymore. We can’t develop dbs. It’s a trash roster and without burrow we would be picking number one. They need to fire the front office.
Totally disagree on most of what you said. Just a different opinion. Not excited about the results of 24 but already excited about the changes in just a few weeks.
@@charleswise4831 I’ve been a fan for 40 years and it just looks like the same old bengals. We are wasting Burrows prime with penny pinching. They aren’t trying to win. They are just trying to be good enough to sell tickets.

@@jefferywilliams6133 Well said. The fans do deserve better. But, unfortunately ownership doesn’t care about winning the Super Bowl. They only care about a full stadium. But as long as fans believe there’s hope when there really isn’t, and the media delivers fluff narratives instead of taking ownership to task, nothing will change.

That’s completely normal in college football unfortunately . It was just a shame because it’s so rare for teams like UC to make it as far as they did.

Only one way to say it. The proof is in the pudding... Here's to Al doing whatever it takes to make the D stand their ground.
