His Spiritual Emergency text was a godsend (pun intended) for me during my spiritual emergence experiences and I am a psychologist. Thank you Stan Grof. We need more people understanding this is the psychiatry and psychology professions. It is a great loss to humanity and healing to not expand our awareness and knowledge to include extraordinary states of consciousness.

Another beautiful talk by Dr. Stan Grof. His intelligence and his ability to speak are really nothing short of absolute genius. He is a product of being able to open your mind to all possibility and see truth dispassionately and then know the reality of life and the universe.

It's pretty much the same rap he has given over and over (and over) since the 50's, but it does not make it any less important. Indeed, the temper he exerts in bringing a new psychological scientific paradigm out, which naturally historically always are shunned until they no longer can be ignored, has always been admirable. He knows what he's up against and just tirelessly contines putting out his message. However, I'd love for him to work with some young new historians of ideas, movie makers, artists and so on, and really make a better case for himself, because so many contemporary intellectuals will still just place a talk like this in a pre-judged aesthetic category and believe that it doesn't have any real bearing on their school of materialist philosophy or history and thus simply ignore it. Grof is to be intensely admired in his books for staying rigorously within the boundaries of scientific methodology and nomenclature, much more than most clinical psychologists (with or without larger agendas) and philosophical "adversaries" like Dawkins and Dennett, yet they have an enormous structural upper hand simply because of their style and position. I really hope someone will give him the high cultural and intellectual contextualization that he and his scientific insights deserve!

Im curious to see Dawkins and Dennets arguments against Grof’s work. I’m familiar with their names though im unaware of specific arguments against Grofs work. Has Dawkins called Grof out(in so many words?)? I am a Grof Devotee..almost everything Grof has written Ive collected, 1st Edition Hardbacks, nearly all of it. I covet his work and am thankful to have met him. I am interested in balancing arguments with counter arguments. I was interested in your mentioning Dawkins & Dennet.
If there are any PDF’s, articles, lectures on TH-cam, or books that you could offer, with these counter arguments, I would appreciate it. I feel its important to know opposing arguments on such important work. Grof is a Titan of Psychedelic Research, few alive today have as much personal knowledge as he.
      Thanks

Maha Dazzle Maha Dazzle nothing has surfaced so far. As to Grof’s working with new generations especially in Art & Film ‘The Way of the Psychonaut’ in books and film came out in 2019 so that speaks to his reach across generations. Plenty of young faces at his Plenary talk in 2017 at MAPS Psychedelic sciences conference.

@@BushyHairedStranger Thanks. I am curious too. You mentioning Dawkins, as I see; this is also related to some new findings (gene expression and so on) that support Lamarc's ideas.

This was lecture was great ! I first heard of his name in one of my favorite books, "Holograhic Universe" by Michael Talbot , and had not heard his name since. A big insight for me was when he mentioned about the first senses of a newborn baby about 30:00 section ... That section really brought it home for me personally, and this video was the first time that that event was mentioned. Thank U & SHARING!

Years ago I came across the book DIANETICS by Ron Hubbard and instantly recognized an amazing clarity in his description of the mind. Basically he says that during life, people fail to
attend to, to confront, and to understand people and events, but REACT-- - - -from this he discovered that part of the mind call the Reactive Mind. And when we can diffuse the reactive behavior of a person, we then help him/her to be free and open and thereby RESPOND intelligently , rather than REACT. The result being that a person who receives Dianetics therapy becomes more rational, more sane, more calm and relaxed, and more able which allows the individual to succeed in life without the baggage of phobias and other crippling behaviors . In my practice of Dianetics the results were indeed wonderful. It would be very correct to say that Dianetics truly restores life.

Mr. Grof: With hundreds of hours of studying theology, having had marginally similar (more or less) experiences, (in lots less numbers), I am qualified to render the opinion or nitpick as follows: It is incorrect to list the prophet from whatever sutra, edition of Koran, Hadiff or other source. It is doubtless that the prophet did not write or dictate any word intending to promote any religious experience except his own. Mohamme would have viciously pursued any known exponents of magic mushrooms. Any close observer of Islamic expansion would doubt it is a negotiable issue. I think the Islamic quote should be removed from this splendid content. Also, the statement quoted (at 27.01) from mohamme "whoever knows himself, knows his lord," is not profound, spiritual, or helpful.
