  • My latest TH-cam video talks about the options for selling art online and asks the question are you getting ripped off by art websites like Etsy and Saatchi Art? These sites take large commissions, similar to a bricks and mortar gallery, but without promoting and connecting your art with high end collectors. Each of these sites tell you that you still need to promote your art to bring buyers to the site; so what are they doing for their 35% commission? Traderspace is a new site that I’ve come across that offers all the benefits of these larger websites without taking a commission on your sales. You pay a monthly fee for a space and access to the payment and communication services of Traderspace and 100% of your sales revenue are your own.

It's the old saying you get what you pay for. With Saatchi, you get more traffic which equals more people seeing your work hence more sales.

Do you get more shopper traffic though Barbara? With hundreds of thousands of artists selling on Saatchi, how many actual buyers are being brought to your page by the platform? Eyeballs don't always equal sales - artists stalking other artists on Saatchi doesn't generate sales. Does the mythical art buyer who browses the internet looking for random art to buy even exist? Saatchi doesn't release any data about what the buying (or just browsing) habits are of the people that frequent their service. I think if we could look under the hood of Saatchi we would see that actually you don't get what you pay for.

If you have an audience on Instagram or anywhere else, then it's a waste of time to bother with Satchi then in my opinion. Thank you for the video, very informative!

Thank you so much for the video! I think it's very important for artists to exchange information about selling art online.

Saatchi Art Online is a sad place to end up as an Artist.
