    I graduated from CU for my BSN completion degree after being an RN for 27 years. It was like a fresh approach to where nursing is today. The profession was redefined in 2006. I tried to go to another school for my MSN, but found my way back. CU will help you help yourself, this is what you need for the long haul as a professional. I'm really finding their care model to be true. I have had great professors most of the time. Actually, I haven't had a bad professor. Melissa, I'm proud of you for sharing your world. Take care, to give care to others.

    So I am not faculty but I did graduate from CU last month with my MSN-FNP and I will say, 2 and a half years ago, like most students I was looking at videos and doing my research because I had doubts. And I will say I am.happy I didn't listen and I experienced the journey for MYself. Not to discredit anyone's experience, but I will say it was not easy, but it was not overly difficult. It took time, discipline, and hard work, after all it is a Masters Degree. Good luck, in whatever decision you make.

    I just came through the video and I want to say that I am fresh out of high school and came directly into chamberlain. I agree that you should do all the pre-reqs at the community or at another school. The only reason why I decided to stick with chamberlain right after school is that I am at the spot where I could and I felt personally that I could go through it. My parents even wanted me to stick with chamberlain (they are helping me financially) and just wanted to do go for it. Even I, who is completing my second year by the end of august, agree that even if you are at a spot to cover for classes, do ur classes elsewhere so u come and something happened and u flunk out, u still have ur pre -reqs ready to be transferred to another school. I wished I made the choice to go to the community before coming here. Don't get me wrong. (depending on where u are), chamberlain is good, especially a lot of the nursing professors and I really like it here.

    Whenever you get an opportunity to save time or money, always choose time. You will always make money. You cant get back wasted time. As a new immigrant with almost zero credits, I was able to take my prereqs alongside my nursing courses and I am currently a senior. In my 40s, I had no time to take prereqs, then BSN. I would have had to use up an extra 2 years, which as a BSN RN I will be able to earn all that money back. In any institution of higher learning, you will have to be proactive in making sure you understand the concepts. But it is a matter of personal choice and circumstances.

    I live in Hawaii and the schools here are very limited and they only accept a small number of students who basically have straight A’s. I don’t want to move off island, so I started researching and discovered chamberlain. I’ve already completed all of my prerequisite classes and applied to the nursing program here but didn’t get accepted. This is a wonderful opportunity to get your RN license and BSN (bachelors degree). At most schools, after two years in a nursing program you only have your associates degree. For me personally, it’s worth it to pay the extra money to get into a nursing program and not have to wait years to get accepted into one locally. I will have to travel to the mainland for the clinical portion of the program but am excited for that opportunity!

    Chamberlain isn't regionally accredited. Only nationally accredited. Meaning if you take nursing prerequisite at Chamberlain (which is super expensive), you won't be able to transfer to courses to another college. You're stuck in Chamberlain's for profit system.
    I did the Chamberlain online orientation and from what I gathered they target students without prerequisite so they can charge them the full 80k. Student who completed prerequisite will pay a less tuition fee and Chamberlain isn't catering to them.
    Imagine being in your early twenties and wasting you limited amount of federal aid, and not being able to transfer their courses to a more suitable school.
    I just go into a ADN program which is 2k total. And the RN to BSN program is only 8k. So a total of 10k for a ADN to BSN.

    • @MelisaMarie
      @MelisaMarie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, pretty much. Though I have heard both sides of this (students not being able to transfer and students who did transfer). Regardless, I feel like it's way too expensive to spend 3 years there. Get though prereqs somewhere else.

    • @jasmineturner3740

    Ok as someone who is going to attend in September this video had me worried. Now with that being said let me explain. I did my research as everyone else did, and I struggled to find a school that fit in my current life schedule. As well as I already have an Associate's degree in a completely different field, I thought I would have transferrable credits and found out that I didn't. Then you have to think about community colleges which can be a great option for JUST your pre-reqs, because getting into a community college Nursing Program is a joke! You attend almost 2 years of schooling, which you have to do exceptionally well in, to THEN apply and attempt to get into an already "small' and "competitive" program. If that's your cup of tea go for it. Now is Chamberlain the best Finacial option ABSOLUTLEY not. I will say though, I would rather pay for a guaranteed spot in a nursing program while ALSO receiving my pre-reqs then continuously apply to other nursing programs with my pre-reqs. When you first apply with Chamberlain, and in that first phone call, they tell you exactly how much schooling will cost right then and there (which most definitely a lot). I would just say what my mother says, and take it with a grain of salt. I wish everyone luck on their OWN PERSONAL journeys, I know you all will do amazing things!

    • @MelisaMarie
      @MelisaMarie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi love! I can't say if I recommend the school or not, only because I do not know what exactly your learning needs are. Like what do you mean by slow learner? I will say that no matter what the school... nursing school is hard. There is a lot of dense informaiton, being thrown at you really fast. At times you feel like you haven't had the opportunity to absorb lecutre A before they throw you into Lecture B. Does that make sense? Continuous drowing in information. Perhaps if you took some pre-reqs at a community college and see what taking a few science classes are like for you, then you could gauge how it would be for you to transition into a full time nursing program. I hope this helps. ❣️

    • @Yazette
      @Yazette 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For profit school is a bit more lenient in my opinion. State school is definitely more difficult, also quite strict, fail a couple of exams & you get kicked out. Chamberlain is not a school to be super proud of or any for profit school is for that matter. They are just a convenient last resort. Most state colleges only offer day programs which can be quite difficult for a working adult.

    • @MelisaMarie
      @MelisaMarie  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I completely disagree with your sentiments. Chamberlain isn’t a school that everyone just gets into automatically and then once you’re in, everything is easy peasy. It’s a regular ole difficult nursing program. And much like other nursing schools I’ve dealt with, if you fail two classes you’re dismissed. And must maintain >76%. Not sure where you’re located but the chamberlain brand gets a lot of people great jobs here.

    • @jlmcgrot
      @jlmcgrot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No. To me it makes more sense for someone younger because they have more years to work off that debt. It also depends on how much work you're willing to put in to get As in your pre-reqs at the community college. I would at least attempt the community college route first, and save $90K.
