For anyone wondering, the 1600g/hLPA limit in Jamaica is due to high flavor rums being sold in bulk to Europe, mainly those created through a process that could get up to 7000g/hLPA. They were then used to flavor pure grain alcohol made in Europe which effectively priced out lower ester rums from the island. The law made it a level playing field as most producers could produce a rum above 1000g/hLPA at the time. To learn more, research the Cousin's process of producing extremely high ester rum and what it meant for the industry. I love all 8 of them, but my personal favorites were a tie of HGML, H, and HLCF. They have the perfect balance of fruity or meaty and acidic in a way that truly wows me. Thanks for the content!
Thank you for sharing that info! At some point I might make a video focusing just on the history of jamaican marks and its export. While my fav is HLCF, I've come to really like HGML.
Thanks for making this video. As a Jamaican Rum superfan, I picked up an 8 Mark's for a decent price. Havnt delved much into it until now, because of lack of understanding. So, thank you!
Amazing video Mate! Just got mine and was so happy to hear and see your review of this. Just came back from Jamaica and Hampden was my favorite distillery!!
"Vomit but in a good way..." I think those who taste spirits can describe the most horrible thing then add "but in a good way" to make it less horrifying. "Tastes like the colon of a dead rhino that's been bloating in the sun for ten days and about to explode...but in a good way." LOLOLOLOLOL But seriously, thanks for the detailed review. I would hate to see the re-takes and script re-writes for this one. I'm surprised every camera angle change didn't show you wearing a different sweater. And many thanks to Hampden House for putting out such a unique and amazing tasting set for us rum geeks. We're in that unique club of spirit appreciators who fly stealthily below the bourbon and tequila hype ceiling, still able afford the highest quality spirits.
hahaha I'm looking forward to getting that note in a rum one day. But yeah, it was definitely a tough video to make. 5 different drafts and shot over maybe 3 days? So glad its done with lol
I would love to get hands on this. I'll just settle for the aged bottles. I love the fact that you described the last one as licking a battery. Some of my favorite tequilas have that taste.
So, obviously no clue where in the world you are, but there are a few online sellers in the US that still have some of these available. (Mine was delivered today!)
After trying out a bottle of Hampden overproof, I got this kit and it kinda gave an idea on what to look for and what to skip in the Hampden range personally, thinking of trying to find a bottle of older great house like 2020 next for that aged H. Overall found the diamond marks and the DOK to be my favs for their cool funk and pallet of tropical fruits with that vanilla, pepper and nuts, they are challenging, but surprisingly complex for something unaged.
The 2020 is probably my favorite of the Great House range. Also, Down Island Spirits just released a single cask of aged H. I haven't had it yet but since you liked the H, might be worth checking out.
Great review and tasting video, one of the best I've seen on TH-cam or any other platform and I think one of your best to date, as well. Shared it with a friend and we're both super excited to try out this collection. I've had four or five Hampden rums and I favor LROK The Younger so far. Thanks for another excellent rum video!
I bought my first Clairin just few days ago - the Communal - and it blew me away. Extraordinary nose and makes a quite brilliant Haipirinha!@@BigHairyCrank
@@therumrevivalToo kind, too kind! I'm glad I'm not the only one occasionally driven to gibberish by DOK. I think what you were looking for was something like, "a left turn followed by rocketing up towards the moon." 😂
I have been waiting on this video for a long time. The exceptional degustation of every bottle and the breakdown of their details from name, history and taste is what makes me think you are the top dog for rum education. Also, how are you not slurred after sampling all 8?
This was really enjoyable! Great tasting notes (as usual). I’m waiting to get into mine until a few of us can get together for a virtual tasting. I see that you didn’t record trying to get the bottles out of the box. Man, those suckers are in there tight!
I got mine in the mail today! I haven’t had a chance try the rums yet but the box and bottles are nicely presented. Thanks for the in-depth review! I’ll probably watch each little section again when I open that bottle.
Really really insightful. I got this for my wife for a Christmas gift. We love rum however this was a leap for us and your explanations really made it worth it. We tasted each and paused while doing so. My question is - what do we do with these next? Should these only be sipped? Made into any drinks? Thank you again!
That is so cool to hear! Glad to hear that the video was helpful. - So I made an equal parts daiquiri with it and it was amazing. .25oz of each of the 8 Marks. Some did the same thing for a Mai Tai.
Still working my way through this. The nose on DOK is endless but the palate is like a mouth full of gravel. Still processing it. Going to put each of these into a Hampden and Ting, anda Daiquiri, and drink the rest neat. Can't wait for the 1 year Marks collection!
Mouth full of gravel is a great description. I'm now working through and making a daiquiri of each and then will blend all 8 together for a 8 Marks Daiquiri
Still haven’t picked a sipping rum yet. In my area we get some ok picks but it is limited still looking for online sites. Seelbach has some interesting picks. Great information on these. Enjoy!!
Pausing while I make some popcorn. BRB.

Still have around half a bottle of each mark left from this.... how should I use the rest of them up?
Thanks so much for this. I work for the distributor who carries Hampden and this helped me educate buyers on the product. Look forward to more videos!
Glad it was helpful!

Just finished my second watch this time with a taste along of the marques and your tasting notes are spot on! Thanks for another great video!
Awesome! Thank you!
This was absolutely fascinating, and clearly a tremendous effort to shoot and edit down. Thank you for doing this!
P.S. HLCF all the way!
Thank you! And yes it took a lot of time and effort, but the tough part was the script. I probably rewrote it 4 times. lol
Amazing video Mate! Just got mine and was so happy to hear and see your review of this. Just came back from Jamaica and Hampden was my favorite distillery!!
Thank you!! I can't wait to head down there.
This was incredible. Thank you for walking us through each one!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Friday I'm making a tasting with the 8 marks, and the aged ones. This was awesome, thanks a lot !
Thanks for watching. Just got my aged set. Will start working on a script for it soon.
I have a Hampden Estate Great House Distillery 2021; really nice rum. Cool video as usual.
Great rum!

It'll be fun to do a side by side of the unaged vs the aged.

Thankfully good rums last longer than good beers :)
Very cool - thanks for this. Havent opened mine yet

Wow, thanks! I appreciate that! Put a look of work into it, so I'm glad to see folk enjoyed it. I love the Younger, I was it wasn't a limited release
Finally located a store with a good rum selection. Picked this up and some Rum Fire. Can't wait to get into them.
Awesome! enjoy!

@@BigHairyCrankI used Astor out of NYC and had zero issues. They were great.
Yeah, Astor is probably number one on my list for shipping to most of the country.
Thanks for watching! After you've tasted through all of them, make some daiquiris with it. They're delicious.

I am hoping that we get another review for the new Bourbon marks collection Hampden has teased!
Drinking these along with you at home!
I just saw those! I'm going to hold onto these unaged marks so I can do a side by side whenever the aged version comes out.
Thanks for the review!! Wondering where you purchased?
Check out Astor Wines
Vomit in a good way. Reminds me of nights out in college. Nice review!
Haha thanks!

Seelbach's got some good stuff and so does Astors.
I love Jamaican rums and I wish this was available on this continent as well...
I hope it finds it way to where you are.
👀 saw the kit on Bitters, & Bottles then came here.
Nice! I love bitters and bottles
Sooooo... Can we use these marks to make our own blends?
That’s what I’ve been doing with it. An equal parts 8 marks daiquiri is also pretty tasty
