  • Cool americana custom built be someone in the past. Peewar shell and frame. Originally a lithograph train. Custom painted and lettered. Pantograph added. Was powered off the pantograph. Center rain pickup had been removed. No headlight or bell. Paint is old. Touched up a few places working new paint under old paint to stabilize and prevent more loss. Added center rail pickup. Made headlight mount. Added a little cast brass bell. Powered by a Marx motor. Has an e unit. Changed the wheels and tuned up the motor with new brushes and some lubrication. Neat piece by a previous owner who was a good fabricator. Glad I could give it a second chance.

This would have been very typical of model railroading in the 1930s. True two rail wasn't feasible due to lack of good insulators, so most modelers ran off of an outside third rail, but catenary was also common. During the depression there were articles on how to upgrade toy trains into something that would blend better into a scale layout. Thanks for sharing!!

Sadly mostly all of those classic toy that were sitting up in attics that sat unused until WII ended up in the great scrap drives of 1942.
