You have to believe in a kid who left home at 14 and came here alone to play hockey.
That says it all for me
    Guts and glory

All of the talking head analysts on TV didn't make a big enough deal about Slovakians being drafted 1st and 2nd over all. That was an absolutely huge accomplishment for them. The Swedes have never been drafted 1st & 2nd, nor has Fins, or Czechs - and they are all much stronger hockey countries. i.e. they've unarguably have won more medals than Slovakia. It took the US and Russia a long time to go 1st and 2nd. Rus did it in 2004 (Ovechkin and Malkin) US did it in 2007 (Patrick Kane and James Van Riemsdyk). Congrats to the Slovaks for being the 4th country to join the drafted 1st and 2nd over all club!!

Cant wait to hear about his summer training, he had lots to work on after his 1st season and made his weaknesses his strenght in a short span, now that he has all the tools he can just focus on getting better and stronger and no one can doubt his will to do so. He has a whole country and mtl city counting on him.

Oh, it's not a 'big thing to say', Slaf was already basically a celebrity in Slovakia before he went first overall. Being the first Slovak to go first.... Thats why he's not phased by the MTL spotlight. He's has the spotlight of a whole nation since he was a kid.

If Slaf can copy the work ethic of Sidney Crosby building his body, then each weapon, and each tool, he will one day have his sweater and # retired to join the stand out players who played for the team

This draft was almost disaster for Slovakia as only guy was taken in 7th round, but overall future of Slovak hockey is very bright

Too much for a 20 goal 2nd line winger. What are they going to have to pay Dach, and important D guys. A lot of wishful thinking that he can progress to a 30-40 goal guy. Will be a useful player but not a star.

He's 20 years old and already the best player on the ice. He's min a 60 points player and 7.4M is already a bargain

Rubbish. Dach has less goals in two seasons with the Canadiens than Slafkovsky has had in 2024 as a 19 year old. Dach has yet to prove himself. Slafkovsky is well on his way to doing that.

His job isn't only scoring though. He will have a lot of 2 way and physical responsibilities, compared to, i.e. caufield. Caufield is a pure scorer/playmaking and will need to reach at least 70 pts and 35 goals to be worth his contract. Slaf at 25 goals and 60 pts, if he fulfills his other duties, is fine.
