Souness was a FABULOUS player for Boro, a great buy from Stan Anderson and Charlton moulded him into the legend that he became. This was an excellent fitting tribute to Boro's best manager in my opinion.
Souness stating it like it is, like he always does. Great player, tough as teak, a midfield general. Not the best manager, not the worst either. Dodgy perm at one point. But, also a great pundit. A real honest soul. Those careful words of condolence at the end from Souness brought a tear to my eye.
@@kmleong8175 Souness brought league titles back to Ibrox after almost a decade without winning, we could do with him back at Rangers now! In England he won the FA Cup as a manger with Liverpool and league Cup with Blackburn. His mangerial career is overlooked because of the unbelievable playing career he had
@@9inchsnails829 Tbf Millar in that era Rangers didn't have much opposition did they? Rangers were flush with cash and Celtic almost went into liquidation after years of mis- management. Sure Souness was a name and he helped to attract some big name English and European talent but list me how many of them that would have come without the transfer fees and salaries paid for by David Murray? He was torture @ Liverpool btw and even he admits that. Sadly management wasn't for him. Best thing he did was appoint Walter Smith. He's a better pundit and I say that as a fan of The Gers!!
Best Boro manager ever. One of the greatest Boro players of all time. I used to see Jack at the Marton country club and always a great bloke to talk to. R.I.P Jack
My earliest Boro memories are of Jack’s team. Souness, Mills, Foggen, Craggs, Armstrong, Platt, Murdoch etc. He introduced the white band on the red shirt which is still the favourite with fans today.
You know seeing your post reminded me of what I always liked as a football philosophy, the old head (Murdoch) and the young 'un's to run about all day (Armstrong, Mills, etc) I have said to no end to people who would listen, Murdoch could not run to save his life, but could he put the ball on a sixpence for Armstrong, hell yeah, great way to play the beautiful game. I am well old enough to remember it as well.
jack charltons first managers job at the boro i remember him well,,took us up to the old first division he did say he left the boro to early,,,a great manager a funny man the team was jacks,,,,CHARLTONS ACES was on the old silk scafe great memories im now nearly 61 and have fond memeries of jack charlton,,a giant of the game will be sadly missed RIP CHARLTON!!!

I remember jack had a television programme where he coached the young boys on tactics, I loved it. I remember he was coaching and showing the boys what positions to take when they where defending corner kicks, so the corner kick is taken, jack starts on one of the boys who got it all wrong, what did I just tell you jack said, he was learning the boy and he was doing it the right way, I bet the next time the boy would get it right, he was not a man to get on the wrong side of lol
Hadn’t thought about it but Souness is right. Jack was a tremendous success but hell did he have great players. Look at Ireland 11 now and Italia 90 11. How many are getting in the Italia 90 team from the current crop?
None. That squad at Euro 88 and Italia 90 was stacked with first division and European Cup winners. The best Irish squad ever by quite a margin. Only 8 minutes away from the semis of Euro 88, loosing to the eventual winners.
I don’t dislike Off the Ball, but those PaddyPower jocks on the wall behind the presenter are just ... what the hell? I guess whoever pays the piper calls the tune.
Yes football is good these days , but its like if a manager gave bollockings out he would be scared of being reported for bullying , and they get a slight knock and you see them come off , definitely not a mans game anymore

Nigel Byrne No,no he didn’t,he was shafted ! Get your facts right !
Jack Charlton changed his career but not as a man. And who is he? Maybe only Liverpool fans remember him. He have been a manager? Which club?
Great interview and love listening to Graeme - a top player and a fine sensitive tribute to our Jack

I love Souness, says it as it is, And Im United through and through
Does that mean you are either from surrey or China
love grahame's honesty.
That man was the quintessential central midfielder to my mind and absolutely world class.
Souness was easily one of Boro's best ever players and as for Charlton, Boro's Best manager by a mile.
Some great words by a great player.

No doubt Charlton helped Souness turn into the terrific player he became. What a man and what an inspiration.

Talk about Jack's walk. That swagger in the Carlsberg advert is as cool as the hot girls that appear at the end. He owned it.
