you can see right here how he and Chick Corea would have such an affinity for playing together. just saw them performing duets and it was unbelieveable.
It makes me sad how most non percussionists never give this instrument its full recognition...this truly is a beautiful instrument and should be recognized for what it really is especially since the very famous jazz vibraphonists Gary Burton and Lionel Hampton played this instrument.
Just finishing up his autobiography. A must read for anyone considering a career in music, even a Jazz Violinist. Not practicing, not learning scales, learning by playing. He had excellent instruction. His first teacher had Gary making up his own Intros and Interludes, and always playing in front of people. Good advice.
This is my best translation for it: Wow, this is Burton Grip at it's finest. His height, and effectively his hand position, help explain why Burton Grip is the optimal grip. This video helps me grasp his style from when he was younger. To understand that he has refined his playing into who he is now from what you see in this video is absolutely fascinating and remarkable!
Try again. ?! And maybe it is? I found out about playing how he's from one of the teachers, student. She appreciates him, spoke to our students. ( She is a great Japan marimba player and composer too) I like Gary Burton and Chick Corea's, Makoto ozone's music very much!! At that time bought together "DUET" is good listening even now. It is one of my treasures. Really great! I'm glad your helpful translation and comments. Thank you very much♪
Absolute nutter! It's not like playing piano were the left hand plays the melody/solo and the right plays the root notes and the chords, Both hands are playing everything. Genius.
(This is the best translation of the comment in Japanese) Burton grip of crunching ☆ Well, because it is build this stature, Maybe a more optimal form. The day he looked like he? Young. (^ ^) From here, I go - it sounds like now been further refined. . . Amazing! ! ·
Any idea what station or program this was? And year? I can barely make out a '1' in the top right corner, but haven't been able to find any other information.
It does but I wouldn't regard that being off tempo. You wouldn't find many recordings that match with a metronome for more than 30 seconds, I guess even those that you refer to as having a steady tempo don't.
Even if you hold a metronome up to it and it gets off, you still can at least feel the beat within. It is not like it is not at a steady tempo but it isn't perfect either.
I feel so hard man...I want to play this so bad. But fear not! I have found something that is so very close! It's a transcription of what he did on his album "Alone at Last." Here's the link: www.steveweissmusic.com/product/22954/mallet-solo
He may be the greatest vibraphone player ever, and he may have revolutionized the instrument with the Burton grip. All that is true. But he really needs better fashion choices. That suit? Davey Crockett wants it back.
To think that he improved the playing technic of the instrument in order to fully express his genius potential as a musician is mind blowing.
Gary Burton is one of the all-times-jazz-master.
Absolutely amazing.
Gary is one of those musicians that makes you want to walk away from music and never play again. Unbelievable skill. Unmatched

And Milt Jackson, who, although less of a virtuoso, was an even greater jazz musician.
@@noahvale939 And Bobby Hutcherson, my favorite.

Also, the salacious stuff about Stan Getz is pretty...um...wow 😊
今でも通じる音楽ってすごい。しかもビブラフォンソロでこの時代の音楽でここまで現代に伝わるって本当にすごい。白黒なのにこの音質っていうのも良き、控えめに言って神
Tear dropping phenomenal! What a swinging ace he is !!
cualquier mallet player puede ver este video decenas de veces y seguir aprendiendo. Gracias Gary !

That is just insane.
It feels like all the notes are bouncing around up and down my spine and in my brain
That is absolutely amazing.....
AMazing!!! Where does creativity like that comes from? Burton is in a league of his own, unmatched, much to our viewing pleasure.
One of my favorites number.
The sound likes the Europian "ORGEL".
Brilliant and Elegant.
Beautiful virtuosic playing...thank you for posting.
Un absoluto virtuoso.
goddam thats one of the best bits of playing of anything i've ever seen
Beautiful, inspired and coherent!!!
best ringtone ever :D
A privilege to behold. If he can do that with four contact points, imagine what he must be able to do on a piano with ten!
Try again.

I know :) I said it's in tempo and indicated the time signature.
If you can't feel that it's speeding up and slowing down at some points just put a metronome when you listen this.
I thought I saw God, and that was Gary Burton!
que campera se puso gary pa tocar!! un cowboy en el vibra!
4/4 is a time signature.Tempo is how fast or slow is the time.
Does anyone have a transcription of this please?
Well. I guess I’ll give another instrument a try 😂
I thanks everything, understand for ^^ now ! the
Gary's grip looks very loose to me.
He did have a lot of feeling when he was young and still does to this day. He was a prodigy.
Brilliant. What's with the jacket though? 🤔

Matthew Goodman Most solos are supposed to fluctuate tempo
He's a great artist & an educator, I see. But he's really an entertainer in nature. So he can get well with Chick Corea, I suppose.

thats so frustrating to watch this as a vibraphone player lol

I don't feel the changes making on time.
A vibes player may like to translate & comment upon this.
what. the hell.
This is in tempo. 4/4
too fast
Practicing way tf too much
One person has no taste in music.
Great jazz name.
I am not saying it's wrong. It just doesn't feel good to me on this tune the chord changes don't come in time.
I never liked these kind of off tempo solo performances.I like the steady tempo so you can actually relate the notes to the time.
100% fake video. You can’t do that on vibes .
YOU can't, but Gary Burton could.
