The greatest vibe player ever, Gary Burton, with piano genius, Makoto Ozone. Live at Montreaux. Check out his book. It was so interesting. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...
I remember Ozone as a student at Berklee and that man can SWING. He can do Oscar Peterson better than Oscar himself. He's really amazing and can do anything.
I saw Gary Burton and Dave Grusin live together in concert. It was awesome. And I had no idea who Makoto Ozone was until now, but that man is a monster!
You are so wrong dude. Listen to this 100 more times. Makoto smokes a Burton in pretty much every way on this You're over here focused on the amount of O's in his name. Stupid.
Not if it's designed the way Berklee Online is, being interactive, extremely informative, very well-structured, and just as personal as Facebook. So it's all in the time & effort supplied by the student. I get to e-mail him personally whenever I want, & you don't so HAH!!
its crazy how people are going nuts about a pretty well defined musical fact. Latin 8ths are played straight. go listen to songs like one note samba and night in Tunisia. i figured my posting of my previous comment would merely merit comments saying DUH! but apparently some of you didn't know that. well i hope i helped. (also, gary burton is pretty awesome)
@livegigs,,thanks, also nice of him to comp for Cal. On TH-cam,check these two out;from [pianinfan] Yukari Inoue Trio "Minor Swing" and from[ [FranklyJazz] Paul Horn "We Three Kings of Orient Are". This is a truly great arrmt. of Mongo's much loved tune Afro Blue". I notice 690 likes & 8 dislikes,of 193,732 views,,that's wonderful. Consider some sympathy for the 8. There are no days awakening I do not thank God for leading me to the sound I was listening for.
Good points... I do wish it was more personal, but it as personal as telecommunication gets, & keep in mind the price difference. Tuition at Berklee is $25,000 with around 15 credits... You can do 15 credits online with the same teachers, and even go in personally... for $7,000 all together ... is going in worth that extra $18,000?
i think that if there wold come a day when i wold see Gary Burton in person...that's the wold be the day when i think that my death cold come at peace.
Es muy buena esta versión, a mi me gusta muchisimo, no me canso de oirla. Very good perfomance, i love it so much!! i can listen it for ever and ever :-D
try Berklee College of Music in Boston, Burton used to teach there, but if you take classes with Dave Samuels or Jerry Tachoir or Ed Saindon, you'll learn the same technique. Good luck...
who has sheets from this pice...or...where can i buy them?....cos i rly wold like to sing this..if you have it...i can offer some vibraphone/marimba sheets insted
Most of these comments make me sad, as they have little to do with music, art, or communication and have more to with who's better than whom, more advanced, more or less "modern," etc. Who gives a crap? Either it works or it doesn't. I love so much of the music that people call "jazz," but I swear jazz fans can just be the absolute worst. Looking for competition? Watch the world cup or something.
Makoto Ozone is one of the most melodic improvisational artists I’ve ever heard!
Mr. Gary Burton's technique is far beyond normal human's ability. Mr. Gary Burton is God.

I remember Ozone as a student at Berklee and that man can SWING. He can do Oscar Peterson better than Oscar himself. He's really amazing and can do anything.

I saw Gary Burton and Dave Grusin live together in concert. It was awesome.

The best version of "AfroBlue", next to that of John Coltrane, it`s my favourite, but i hear them both really more often.......

@ManiakLord123 The version I have runs it in F minor
@leopianotuner Actually I wasn't aware that Burton was a household name. And even if he is, that doesn't mean he sucks. They both rock!
It already started.
Didn't it?
my name is Gary Burton, i hope this gives me the same powers as his skill.
peace out

Which comments are you referring to?

Maybe I was replying to a different YT music thread. I'm sure I knew what I was doing ... ; )
I was going to say, most all of these comments are just praising Mr. Burton :)
