I know just how he feels at the end.. There is nothing more satisfying than completing a difficult task like this! My moment that was similar to his at the end came when I managed to re-create a super-rare board for the old desktop macintosh SE/30.. This particular board allowed the internal monitor to display 256 grayscale... It was a 2 board upgrade for the old mac , made by Micron. The particular Micron video card which allows this is rare enough on its own, but the 'daughter board', which is the one I had to re-create, is rarer still! I went through a bunch of reverse-engineering off of ancient Micron schematics, and talked with a bunch of people who were familiar with this particular upgrade, to get all the info I needed to re-create the daughterboard from scratch.. I then bought all the parts necessary from mouser and digi-key, and went to work.. When I was done, and it was all assembled, I crossed my fingers and powered it on... BINGO!!! IT WORKED!! You don't know how good that feels until you take on one of these difficult projects, and have it come to fruition! Its an awesome feeling! BRAVO SIR! CONGRATS ON YOUR 128Gb iPhone!! Subscribed!
TheColonel True, but I was even more amazed that there were still technical papers available, in .pdf form, on the old chips I needed to reference for my project! I reached an impasse at one point due to the lack of information on the wiring for the board that I was creating. There was a simplistic diagram in the actual patent for the board, but it was not very specific. So I had to research the pinouts for the main signal switching chip, and was pleasantly surprised at how easily I found the information on the web for this 1980’s era chip!
thanks for sharing that you just needed something simple as your own lightning cable, a lot of people would have embarrassingly left that part out. but this is why i love your videos.

The thing I really like are the hurdles and the pain, so true and real, man did I feel your Defcon about the Automatic Tressure Machine
From the evidence gathered in the video, there were 2 primary issues that increased the difficulty his experience, one of which he recognized and fixed it. The first was that he used a setting for the hot air blower that was on the wrong setting, particularly vertical air. This was suggested by how much the motherboard was moving. When the helical air setting is used, the intensity of the air produced is much less so and is much more conducive to removal of large items on the PCB such as the nand flash.
Boot camp can cause com port and usb port problems because of the drivers and some other things it’s easier to buy a new one and not waste the time with this shit.

100%. Apple relies on those profit margins from all options being bought from them, all service being bought from them, planned obsolescence helps bring back new customers... They want to be a monopoly on all things involved with their products to maintain their outrageous profit margins. But with that said I still have an iPhone 6s 64gb I got three years ago for 299.99 contract price and its still good stuff. Just replaced the battery and I can't really tell the difference between it and the new stuff. But before the battery swap..... garbage lol.
Hi, I'm here to bring you a great smart power bank idea for IOS phones and others. How about opening a smart power bank case and putting SSD 120GB? Or even enjoy battery charging but put a micro SD reader?
Squid Samnic with boot camp, you just boot into windows, it doesn’t remove Mac OS from your machine, it only allows you to use windows in what is called a dual boot.
And turn your crApple Mac into a radiator because their cooling is wank. Also, apple can't handle anything that ain't apple because of shitty hardware and optimisation.
You got it right at the end of your video. I am one of those who would NOT try to save $75 by taking my phone to a Temple Street phone repair shop in Hong Kong and risk at least a 50/50 chance of ruining it. What makes it worse is that they don't ruin it but created some "flaws" in it, that when I find out later and try to get them to fix it right, they'd deny it is their fault. When one spends $1000+ on a new phone, one should not try to cut corners and save $75...
Does anyone else get "The Martian" vibes from watching his videos? He makes complicated things look somewhat simple and I just want to go try some of it myself!
If you consider "your time" as something worth any value, or "the chance of the phone breaking", then I'd suggest the $100 difference or whatever from the retailer / manufacturer is worth it.
bahzad23, he bought more memory: flash programmer, laptop, multi flash chips, many practice boards, "sim card holder" plate, reballing stencil, solder paste.
@Strange Parts, For the screen issue: Next time you have a problem appear out of nowhere like this just clean all connectors with alcohol to kill static. Ideally you should be using antistatic tools like a wrist strap so that doesn't happen

There is same things for all flagman phones and you can order it online.
Oooh, always nice to see a new Strange Parts vid in my notification bar!
Have you thought about putting together a Discord room? It's a great way for the community to connect and interact!
smashhawk its called a server not a room lol
smashhawk lol true
Good idea! Go up so he can see this my friend
smashh
Why dont you set it up and then maybe even if he does not make one other will join?
I love how all your titles sound like clickbait but they are the only not clickbait videos on this entire site.
He is one of the most amazing people ive ever seen.
You could have just installed Windows on your Mac.
Harbir Singh there’s a lot of things he could have done better lol.
He also seemed dumbfounded when the iPhone went into DFU mode, how are you going to be working on the hardware when you don’t even know how to reset the firmware
Hes a typical mac owner
he could just use virtual machine software on mac to get windows running.
He is more electrical engineering, not software engineering or programmer. Typical keyboard warrior act like smartass above me lol. You think your are smart as windows owner?
No but macs are overated.

China seems like a paradise for DIY people, are the things expensive?
It depends. Majority like to con westerner and some are fair to all.
sniperwork
Do you have experience of being conned by Chinese market? I would totally geek out to see so many parts for DIY stuff.
I’ve watch several videos, it’s giving the impression of...if you got an idea for a project, you probably can find all the parts you need just going to the market.
Brendan Nolastname
I’ve tried Amazon and eBay, sometime things come wasn’t up to my expectations. Would be awesome to see and touch it in person as you say.
you wont be conned if you know chinese so learn chinese
Or...people should just be honest in their business.
This guy has more motivation and is more determined then I could ever think I could be
You deserve a “Most Patient and Persistant” award. Fun to watch, painful (for you) to have worked through.
Good job!
Upgrading memory
Apple users : pulls out microscope
Android users: pulls out new micro sd card
you have to know that SD card is slower than welded chip in Iphone
@@kolezka3914 yep but its fast enough for a lot of things like videos, photos, music, some apps
@@MrWizardjr9 say that to 3 yo memory card( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@kolezka3914 yea and android phones like the galaxy s10 have options to get more storage with flash up to 1 tb and you can get a micro SD card for it as well. you could also get the base 128gb model and get a big micro SD card. We have options. And either way, a majority of the space that is probably going to be taken up by a phone are photos and videos which a micro SD card is fast enough to read and write
Koleżka not gonna spend hours welding a chip to fit iPhone when I can just buy a sd and fit it in. In a couple of minutes
Why not Bootcamp instead of another device? Could have saved you a lot of money.
Was gonna suggest this as well
Yeah. Or even a VM might have worked.
I can only guess he didn't wanna give his mac cancer.
Hase Pretty sure you don't have to put only Windows 10 on it.
Xiaomi product placement.
"The problems is it's Windows only software and I use Mac."
What a third-world guy like me expects: download cracked Windows or Parallels to use on Mac
What the Chad engineer who lives in Hong Kong do in reality: buy a brand-new PC.
Couldnt he just have used a vm
I'm from Venezuela. Yup, I was think in that way
Yeah, I would have tried a VM first; then if needed, installed a version of windows on the physical ssd.
What about driver?
Could've done a bootcamp partition, right?
Your channel is so underrated, huge respect to you
15:42 I tought you were going to say let's go to the market and get an X-Ray XD
Ya mee tooo😁😀

I did the same upgrade to my S9+.
The phone came with all the tools needed.
I only had to buy a TF card and put it in.
Didn't even have to open the phone!

Theres a huge difference in the transfer speed between an SD card and phone, and the actual internal storage. I get what you're saying tho.
NAND > eMMC (probably what SD cards use, it is what cheap chinese laptops use so it should be way cheaper than NAND flash)
Android phones can't install most of apps on the SD card, which means that while you can store more photos and videos, you can't improve the storage for apps.
@@kodokudeusotsuki in the older outdated phones you really cant but android 7.0 and up it isn't a problem. I have the option to install straight to my sd card or internal storage when downloading apps

its a joke but when will they do it ???
i think never because its money for apple
i will always buy an android fhone why because i love android for the fact they put a tf card support in it XD
This was a serious journey and I 👏 am 👏 here 👏 for 👏 it great work, dude, loved this video from start to finish.
Subscribed!
I'm always amazed how the microchips for these old boards are still readily available. I've once stumbled upon 1998s era AMD old-new stock of chips.
Scotty's like an iPhone surgeon
It's ok - they were vestigial. Sort of like the appendix or pinky fingers - you don't really need them it turns out.

Apple doesn’t care about people modding their own iPhones. Apple is in the business of selling you new hardware.
I was following along in my head and once you got to solder balls, I was like nope. Great to watch, my inner electronics geek is complete watching this channel and your builds.
That genuine reaction at 26:40 just melts my heart

Boot camp can cause com port and usb port problems because of the drivers and some other things it’s easier to buy a new one and not waste the time with this shit.

@Hermano Daniel Foxconn United States headquarters in Wisconsin Racine and the good news is they are contaminating the water supply that's use by Milwaukee and other counties. The other good news is wisconsinites are paying full price for the new Corporation facility in Racine Wisconsin.
Ok. And now tell us about sd-card data transfer speed in your android phone
Hi, I'm here to bring you a great smart power bank idea for IOS phones and others. How about opening a smart power bank case and putting SSD 120GB? Or even enjoy battery charging but put a micro SD reader?
Xiaomi is not just a cheap chineese company. They are making really quality products

Harsh Sharma does he have haters?
The. Guys at Apple 😏
Haters will say this is a stupid fucking video and a waste of money
iDeep have you done it? Not trying to be hostile btw

I love how he says i give up *FOR NOW*
Now we need the battery upgrade 🔋
that is the simple one
Isnt that the easiest part?
You can't fix apple
Make the iPhone twice as think and double the battery capacity
Here Samsung have some spare batteries lying around.
You could've just installed Windows on your Mac with boot camp haha
I think he likes osX and doesn't want to remove it from his mac
Squid Samnic with boot camp, you just boot into windows, it doesn’t remove Mac OS from your machine, it only allows you to use windows in what is called a dual boot.
And turn your crApple Mac into a radiator because their cooling is wank. Also, apple can't handle anything that ain't apple because of shitty hardware and optimisation.
Or he could install a Windows virtual machine with VirtualBox :)
PNathan When you've got money it doesn't matter lol
Watch this guy suspiciously disappear soon
lol, and that is hilarious
@Frischeparadies how do you know?
Edmund Au cause fake iPhone everywhere in that market actually, even iPhone x.
@@terrrrry612 LOL they make all the Iphones so they just grab a few from the Factory.
hahahaha this one got me
You got it right at the end of your video.
Just imagine how much money he spends on each of these videos, props to you
You bought a whole new laptop? For windows? All you had to do is install windows along with MacOS on your MacBook with bootcamp , it's very simple
Maybe he also just wanted a second laptop. Nothing wrong with that.
virtual machine :/
It Is called Bootcamp, It is Super useful.
Sevendogtags maybe, but the reason he mentioned here is specific , he said this machine only supports windows so i have to buy a windows pc.
Servus He didn’t buy a Microsoft computer though dummy. Microsoft Windows and macOS can both run on a MacBook.
Does anyone else get "The Martian" vibes from watching his videos? He makes complicated things look somewhat simple and I just want to go try some of it myself!

*A Jailbreak*
Jack_Cydia that's the best upgrade

Jailbreaking is not upgrade you can call it a update with some liberty but not upgrade
dude the context was a JOKING . Ofc everyone knows that . Funny u didn't see it coming :D

I guess virtual machine's are out of the question...?

He need direct HW access from OS so yes, VM are out of the question
rhapen - VMWare has supported direct hardware access in their virtual machines since at least 2013...
Hey bro he may be worried about viruses, if windows gets attacked his computer is done. Rather by a different one then get the whole thing destroyed.
Chance Gilliard This is why you disconnect your virtual network adapter. This is the basis of sandboxing.

Would be nice if you could say the price of stuff that you buy.
dtoften he said the memory cost $25 what else you need
TBH at least a total cost for comparison with buying a new phone...
