Rogue have been a dominant force in the Western esports scene for a long time, coming in clutch with mechanical play that overwhelmed their opposition. Of course, they fell flat at APEX versus Koreans, as in that scene every team is particularly good with ult economy and macro strategy. The pro team Envision looks to have gotten a big level up in the strategy department with the additional of their main tank CHRISTFER as they stayed a move ahead of Rogue at just about every turn in the 3-1 upset in Overwatch Contenders Season 1. Impressive stuff and hopefully a start of a sea change in the west with the strategy of Overwatch becoming a mainstay, or at least, upset teams who excel in that regard threaten the top teams. If you enjoyed the video, be sure to rate! Let us know what you think about the fall of Rogue! -F
Your Overwatch Any comment on where the hell AKM was most of this game? He hasn't seemed comfortable in months, especially on Dva. Also Rogue needs to strongly consider how they protect their supports, and Winz needs to be way more careful. He's such an easy pick so much more than other Lucios. I hope this is a start for them to rethink their strategies.
BRUCE LEEROY THE REAL McCOY hog is a tank. it takes zen sense 2.5 seconds to charge up his shots and he has to hit all of them pretty much for a kill and you have 200 health , no mobility. Therefore no need for a nerf , hog was a one shot every 8 seconds if you hit his easy ass hook.
I was VERY impressed with Christopher's sheer leadership of Envision. I haven't seen disengages like that since Lunatic Hai's fairy tale rise to power. Clearly the notion of ult economy and management is something Envision were Practicing to try and master on the level of the Korean teams and it paid off Big time here. Rogue were so distraught they fled the game INSTANTLY as soon as Gibralter was over without even a Gratz or GG to Envision. Honestly it was kinda insulting to see that happen to Envision. They fought hard and deserved a tip of the hat
Please, Your Overwatch team, do more of these pro-series analyzes, cuz sometimes watching the whole cup series is kinda difficult, but having moments like these analyzed and posted is GREAT!
Pih Poh yeah like I watched the first point on the first round and thought "wow, rogue Is just going to stomp this match" and I stopped watching it... I was wrong
Pih Poh No please don't do more of these. It only applies to extreme high level. Most players are playing at plat/diamond level. Players at GM/top 500 are not watching these videos especially when they don't apply at all if ur solo que.
Yeah, realizing all these things he talks about are something everyone has to think of is kind of a wakeup call to some i think, i'm lucky and have a greaet understanding of overwatch but i never really though about how to attack the 2nd point as you explained, Thank you so much!
Are you still bored with the crosshair options available to you? Well I have the thing for you! Introducing *Boxhairs!* If you set the Crosshairs length to 1 or 2 and max out the thickness, you get lines perpendicular to each cardinal direction (rather than traditional crosshairs that point up/down/left/right). I call them "boxhairs". With a large center gap, the seperate lines can maintain a sense of area like a circle does (although with more openness, owing to the gaps around the corners), but also convey directionality like normal crosshairs do. A very small center gap can function as an interesting hollow dot, and, if set correctly, the corners can connect with the hitmarker for extra style points. If Show Accuracy is set to Yes, (with, say, Soldier: 76 or Tracer) you can maintain a dot while not shooting, but when in use they flare out in a really neat way to show the area. This is better if you also have a dot in the middle to keep track of where exactly you're pointed. D.Va can also have appropriate crosshairs both in and out of mech with this style as well. This is just something I do for some of my heroes for fun, functionality and fashion. I highly recommend testing it out; after all, we could all do with more creativity within Overwatch. Cheers
I just wish people would realize the value of supports and tanks. Dps is fun and all, but it's a team game. How many times did freedo talk about how Sound Barrier won the team fight? About a thousand. Things like that go under-appreciated when people have the mindset of "well if I kill everyone I win."
Xmater987 Especially in console, and especially if people are in a team, they usually won't join. All you can hope for is that the other team is in the same situation so its balanced out in terms of communication.
In my case if I ever get anyone on team chat is either: a player who refuses to listen, a loud & obnoxious (and oblivious) brat or a player who doesn't speak/understand English. I play on PS4
Rogue didn't learn anything in Korea. They still have AWFUL ult economy and refuse to play flexibly. Envy is the best team in the West. They have great mechanical players but they also are willing to win through strategy rather than just trying to out skill everyone
Agree most of this _however, we have seen Rogue pull out Rein to close out the Beat Invitational at the end of Route, a start difference to their 3DPS approach that flailed to close out Numbani @ APEX. Also they run the Dva more, even AKM taking it. Also if AKM has a Doomfist I think they're one Sombra away from having enough flex, ults is just their downfall and this match was the best (worst?) example of it.
I think they are going to have to stop with their current always fight playstyle because as teams get better and their coordination gets better, the less they will be able to get away with their 4v6 or 5v6 fights. I'm just surprised that after Korea they didn't at least attempt to be a bit more strategic especially as subsequent patches have come out that push the game farther from their ideal patch. Taimou has talked on stream about how Envy used to win basically through just being better mechanically than everyone else (always had decent ult economy) but they have started to transition to a more strategic playstyle. I think Rogue is going to have to do something similar if they want to stay a top tier team because the NA scene they were dominating a few months ago has changed up pretty drastically
Great comment. When you watch Taimou streams, you can see he's mechanically at the very top so he could get away playing just hitscan dps, but in streams he's trying all offensive or tank heroes as per the map, team and situation requires. I guess they have recognized that fact that Blizzard really want most players to flex rather than be one trick ponies.
I think the D.Va is really important. For example, on the Lijiang game when you pointed out Unkoe popped his ult just to save himself, normally there should be a D.Va there defense matrixing the Zen to protect him but since they ran triple dps Unkoe had to use that ult selfishly and it might have cost them the map.
Its very nice when you get all 6 people in chat actually communicating. The game just tends to flow so easily in your favor when everyone focuses on 1 target at the same time.
I love these long videos. The meta discussion ones are especially nice when I'm at work. They're fun to listen to, even if i can't actually watch them while working.
You can see how much you guys enjoyed making this video hahaha. Basically this is a perfect example of the strategy and philosophy of playing Overwatch that you have been spreading around! Good job here, really well explained video!
very impressed by your detailed commentary on the mechanics of this game. I was most impressed by the dive onto the 2 supports in numbani around the corner and how they never even had a chance lmao. do more like this pls;)
Why is everyone so angry over the loss? Rogue got complacent and played like trash. It was a well deserved victory to Envision. This should be a lesson to all teams that you don't snooze off because you are some undefeated demigod.
As someone who frequently gets on the receiving end of Tactical Visor, I legit cheered when Tseini landed that Barrage. "I've got you in-" "SHUT UP!" :')
You guys have about an 80% presence on my "Overwatch Tips & Tricks" TH-cam playlist. This one makes it video number 21 of yours. Keep it up. I'm going to end up with a full "How-To: Overwatch" movie in that playlist before too long. XD
I like this. Helps teach veterans + new players understand the game better. Though I don't think many will make use of these neat tricks until Diamond or above. I'm in Masters and this helped me. Thanks.
This was definitely a great match up to watch. I couldn't believe that final stall on Gibraltar from Envision! It was absolutely insane. Great start for OW Contenders IMO.
Been watching since season 1 and this is probably my favorite video yet. Excellent breakdown and way to jump on the opportunity when an upset like this happens
YES YES YES. Such a good video I have been waiting for Rogue to be exposed in this fashion for a long time and to have it explained as well as this rly makes it just so much more rewarding. It makes it clear that it wasn't just a streak of luck and that a team with good coordination can win over what I would call a team of great but 'cocky' players. Good job guys!
I've seems a lot of comments saying they lost due to no communication. You don't need comms to auto win games (although it gives you a huge advantage) it is not necessary, skill and game sense determine the winners of a game. I remember during season 1-2 I didn't know how to join voice as it is not automatic in the console. (I suck back then) and I managed to climbed with out joining voice. I use the chat wheel to combo ults (Zarya main). I had no losing streaks because of lack of communication but the fact that I suck (platinum) Know I'm at grandmasters using voice chat and steadily climbing. My point is that communication gives you an advantage but it is not necessary to winning games every single time, skill and games sense are bigger contributors to winning than communication.
At 3:55, Fahzix popped Transcendence to avoid a clutch. In most scenarios, it would be unnecessary, but this is Rogue. They are notorious for winning mechanical fights, even with an initial disadvantage.
Very good point. Rogue is one of the only teams that is capable of this - but it also is a feature of the 3DPS comp, many damage threats to swing back fights. I only brought up that example for the sake of the "pure ult economy greed argument", however really, _quickly_ finishing the fight is likely always a better investment.
Rogue is too used to playing against uncoordinated teams. They need to learn some more flexibility. When was the last time they used Reinhardt? 2016? Great video though Freedo, really thorough analysis, You removed me but it's okay senpai.
Freedo, these vids are some of my favorite. I love learning how the game works at the highest levels and seeing how complicated and nuanced it is (how about that defensive sombra ult?). Cheers!
Lunatic Hai losing to MVP Space in Apex S4 also deserves analysis...I wasn't convinced by the general complaint that doomfist is too OP until I watched that massacre!
Keep doing these longer videos... I really enjoy listening to them at work..... DON'T STOP PLEASE!!!!!... Lol seriously these videos motivate me on my "bad days" and thank you for helping be a better Genji/Lucio
speaking of lunatic hai ... our korean overlords seemed to be out matched by doomfist due to lack of scrim time cause of the world cup. Do you think they bounce back in time before their next match and will we be seeing a breakdown of that?
So nice to see a team win not just on mechanics but good interactions and ult usage. Maybe if we have more teams like this we might stand a chance against Korea :D
Really nice video! It once more shows up the importance of tactics in overwatch! Allow me one question: How long does it take you to make such an excellent video?
Random thought, it would be cool to have a flying support hero that could take one other person with them as an ability so that one could position heroes in a place thats otherwise too difficult or impossible to get to on their own, which would give a whole new dynamic to setting up team fights, I dunno, zero gravity powers maybe or whatever
Envision really showed some heavy improvement, mirroring what the Koreans have had down for a long time; discipline and strategy. Of course they have the leg up in individual skill as well so they are on top, but it's nice to see another team put those attributes to good use.

Honestly it was kinda insulting to see that happen to Envision. They fought hard and deserved a tip of the hat
D Mar "a tip of the hat"
Ugh. Go away.
oh dear lord I seem to have offended a Rogue fan.
Kindly, see yourself out the door and have a nice day.

I have said and will say again "a mediocre coordinated team will beat a team of mechanical all-stars who don't synergies at all"
Well it was true in this case

Shifty_Dragon I think it just looks like that because he switched a Hero maybe?
0:42 Doomfist dab lmao
I love these long videos. The meta discussion ones are especially nice when I'm at work. They're fun to listen to, even if i can't actually watch them while working.

12:49 that Winston dodge
very impressed by your detailed commentary on the mechanics of this game. I was most impressed by the dive onto the 2 supports in numbani around the corner and how they never even had a chance lmao. do more like this pls;)
kelpo Yeah I thought the same - they had not a single chance.
Teams are starting to put their own spin on the way Korea plays. Play smarter not harder.
Why is everyone so angry over the loss? Rogue got complacent and played like trash. It was a well deserved victory to Envision. This should be a lesson to all teams that you don't snooze off because you are some undefeated demigod.
Excellent video. Well done, plz keep videos like this coming. Love the pro analysis
Your understanding of the game and play style never ceases to amaze me
I'm just so glad that a team that is more centered around strategies finally won against a team that is definitely mechanically superior.
As someone who frequently gets on the receiving end of Tactical Visor, I legit cheered when Tseini landed that Barrage.

I love these longer, more in-depths analysis episodes. I hope you make more! :D

Please make more of these! I love Overwatch esports and this is great info to discuss with my friends about the next time we que for comp!
This was definitely a great match up to watch. I couldn't believe that final stall on Gibraltar from Envision! It was absolutely insane. Great start for OW Contenders IMO.
I think this was you alls' best video ever. Really excellent work. I hope to see more videos like this analyzing contenders/apex.
Well I've never really known when I should be using Transendance so thanks for giving me a few pointers on that
this was a pretty lit analysis, great job :3
Thx for the video and analysis Freedo. Slow mo replay useful as well, always tough to review pro replays.
👍
So now there is a way to deal with a Split comp shown in a pro guide? Nice!
Been watching since season 1 and this is probably my favorite video yet. Excellent breakdown and way to jump on the opportunity when an upset like this happens

Really enjoy these longer form videos.
Very interesting, I would love to see an analysis of the US team at Overwatch World Cup playoffs.
Cheers!
This made me want to watch pro overwatch. That's an awesome thing for a video to do.
Right after watching this I took advantage of that zen tip for using the ult before sombra popped emp. Won us the game.
Good stuff yall. A video like this is well worth the extra time invested.
These are the kinds of videos I subbed for. Great quality
Your Overwatch for official commentators of the Overwatch League....
This is the stuff I want to hear, THANK YOU!!! I can't wait for more upsets and crazy things
By far my favorite content your overwatch produces. Keep up the great work my friends!
Great vid! That was an amazing series to watch on the live stream!
You gotta love how this game works
Can you make a "How to get into watching Overwatch Esports" vid?
I don't usually comment but I just wanted to show my appreciation on videos like this. Keep it up Freedo & the rest of YO!
Lunatic Hai losing to MVP Space in Apex S4 also deserves analysis...I wasn't convinced by the general complaint that doomfist is too OP until I watched that massacre!
wanna play a drinking game?
Take a shot every time freedo says shot calling
Great analysis, love seeing this side of the game. Would definitely be happy to see more of these!
"You don't do anything you're just a support" Yup, a support that saved your ass the ENTIRE game. #SupportLife
Keep doing these longer videos... I really enjoy listening to them at work..... DON'T STOP PLEASE!!!!!... Lol seriously these videos motivate me on my "bad days" and thank you for helping be a better Genji/Lucio
This was your best video so far!
That's one of the most interesting video i've seen about Overwatch. Thank you very much for this fast and interesting video.
Really enjoyed the breakdown video, would love to see more
the defense on the last map was insane. Stall executed to perfection
Lunatic Hai esque tbh.
speaking of lunatic hai ... our korean overlords seemed to be out matched by doomfist due to lack of scrim time cause of the world cup. Do you think they bounce back in time before their next match and will we be seeing a breakdown of that?
I loved this freedo amazing and stunning. Make more please!
So nice to see a team win not just on mechanics but good interactions and ult usage. Maybe if we have more teams like this we might stand a chance against Korea :D
take a shot everytime freedo says point of contact
1:06 lol he emoted at the end of his dragonblade c:
nope. it was a mccree flashbang
the mcree was at the corner of the wall tho?
Luigi Luigi it was mcree flash bang if you paused it you can see the stars above his character
This type of videos is my favorite thanks frido
man you are a beast... really like that kind of video specially when it's target a single player like you did with soon 4 months ago
Well done, good breakdown- please make more of these :)
At the end you notice West :I LIVE IN MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video. Players and teams across all skill gaps need more understanding of meta game.
I like these analysis, great job on the video & commentary!
Brilliant stuff! Thanks freedo and co.
Holy shit I need to watch pro play in super slow motion. Awesome video though. Can't wait for the next one.
You know that moment when your only healer has gold elims, that's me, right now
Really good job on this, nice work.
Very nice and useful video. Great job Freeedo!
That's the content I want to see more of !
Another great video! Very in-depth and insightful, and it is appreciated.
Take a shot every time he says "infinite"
You will DIE!
Envision's control of engages, ult-management and discipline are what won them this series. Rooting for them to win the tournament :DDDDDDDDD:
Envision really showed some heavy improvement, mirroring what the Koreans have had down for a long time; discipline and strategy. Of course they have the leg up in individual skill as well so they are on top, but it's nice to see another team put those attributes to good use.
very interesting to see it at slowmo with commentary about what's going on. helps alot ;)
I really liked this video. Thanks for all the hard work!
I can't shotcall because my mic doesn't work
DONT PLAY COMP. THEN!
i dont lmao
SwagSandwich NO CHILL LMAO
The dude says he has no mic and doesn't play comp yet you guys shit talk him , look at his channel to see how you can make fun of him because you all have no life's , tell him to go kill himself , and call him a cancerous fuck. Look at the playlist you idiots it clearly says " play this at my funeral " he's basically poking fun at those music videos yet since you guys are blind you choose to call him out when he's done absolutely nothing.
And what the fuck does his TH-cam music playlist have to do with overwatch competitive anyways. Like man kids these days clearly don't think before they act.
This why I started playing the game , people think they have things under control then boom goes the defeat.
In this fine video we observe Freedo roasting the dps role. Enjoy
Oh my god those bordes I WANT TO KNOW WHAT COMES NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEXT
ZephyrSaix diamond border with purple and gold stars u can see it on the doomfist reveal video
Platanos Maduros THANKS
Pretty sure best use of Pharah alt was when Seagull teamed killed in the world cup last year... look it up
Tbh I can understand what's going on in this spectator mode in slow mo more than its normal pace
Really cool analysis. It was too dense at times, though.
In other words, Rogue is like HungryBox, but Envision is Mang0.
Love these deep dive videos
Yeah this was sick, great job freedo :)
Wow, Overwatch Central posted at the same time... Tough competition
Australia's world cup team will be dissecting this game with interest
loved this video! so interesting to watch plz do more :D
Great video, that was awesome and must have taken some time.
Great in-depth video!
1:46 lol, they gotta leaver..
excellent video, love your commentary freedo.
