Fire Blast derives "大文字" (daimonji) . "大文字" is one of the events which represent summer in Kyoto. It's drawn by the fire like "大" in the mauntain. I'm sorry that I can't speak almost English.
While not all that reliable (nor my favorite Fire-type attack), I’ve always enjoyed using Fire Blast, too. :) My favorite animations are in Generations IV and VII, and in ORAS. Was Arcanine needed for each demo, though?
ORAS did it best. The kanji is perfectly shaped, it fires out as and stays a kanji symbol the entire time, and the way it flies and impacts has a lot of tangible weight and power to it.
Generation 2 always seems to have the best attack animations, no matter what. Although Generation 4 did it better with Thunder and Surf in Generation 5. Still, Gen 2 knows how to impress.
CosmicFlare It's funny that you say that b/c imo gen 2 also has a lot of attack animations that impress me (& a few that don't). Yet some animations from gen 3 or gen 4 are also good
Hi Mixeli! Could you possibly consider also using Pokémon Mystery Dungeon footage seeing as you're covering a sidegame like Let's Go? That would be much appreciated!
The Japanese of this move is called “Daimonji” which refers to an activity of lighting several bonfires making patterns of kanji on the mountain at the peak of Odon Festival. One of the kanji pattern is shaped 大 which means “big” and is the reference to this move
I remember in the anime when Magmar used Fire Blast and Charizard caught it with brute strength one of the best moments and top 10 battles in the Pokemon anime
I love how gen 4 has an "updated" version. I also love the sound of the fire spinning around and being fired. EDIT: Differences as in Diamond/Pear/Platinum and HeartGold/SoulSilver.
Torched by Fire Blast! In case you're wondering the fire pattern in the attack animation for Fire Blast, it has the shape of the kanji "kai" (大) that means "great", which actually based on the Daimonji of the Japanese festival Gozan no Okuribi, where the bonfire shape is the same as the pattern used in Pokemon's Fire Blast animation.
Fun fact: When Ash's charizard battles Gary's blastoise in the league, Brock says, "Fire moves dont affect water directly but sometimes they can work, especially if charizard can get a close shot at blastoise." Later that episode we see charizard burn the battlefield which helps chaizard win the battle. We also see this in origins when fire spin seems to really affect blastoise for some reason, where fire blast finishes it off.
I think it's fair to have an opinion on what gen did the move animations the best, but it feels kind of hard to argue that any generation before 6 and 7 don't really compare to what they did and were capable of doing on that hardware, although you can disagree and have your favorites, i find it tough to argue.
I like how Arcanine uses Fire Blast on a Pokemon with 4x's resistance to Fire at 3:30 and it does a sorta -C or D+ hit (Tho Reshiram had some HP gone before that) Hits a Pokemon with only a 2x's resistance at 3:40, does barely anything Like WTF?
In gen 1, I'm curious how many takes did it get for the Arcanine to actually listen. Also some gen 2 shenanigans (time capsule) are definitely involved here.
You mad lad, going with a lv 72 arcanine to the battle tower, getting to Anabel's golden symbol battle while the level cap for your team is Lv 85... Gotta have to press lots of F's for that one F F F F Nice video btw
I prefer the ORAS animation of Fire Blast over the Gen 7 and LGP/E ones. It feels like there's so much force being hit by a flaming symbol compared to a Fireball that forms the symbol after hitting its target.
Ratings! Best: Gen 4 It had a power to its animation, like a massive bomb of fire went off Worst: Gen 3 It appears like the user shot too high so it kinda shot more downwards than straight. Looks off.
Wow there's a huge difference between XY and ORAS versions of Fire Blast. I always associate this move with Magmar because of the anime and the kanji kinda resembles a humanshape (fitting since Magmar is the most humanoid Fire-type in Gen I)
Unfortunatly, Charizard couldn't make it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice job!
大 means "big"
かい
In japan, we call Fire Blast, “Dai mon ji” it means “the character of dai” dai=大
That’s why fire blast looks like 大
And 大 means big
It's also a reference to the Gozan no Okuribi, AKA the Daimonji Festival.
Nice, I always wondered what that symbol meant.
I argue they should have called it "BIG FIRE" in the US.
As a person who spoke Mandarin, I always called it "大火" (da huo) which means big fire
Oh yes...and people sometimes mistake it for kanji of fire.
Alternative title of this video: “the evolution of the back of Arcanine’s head.”
Get a load of yet another Lizardon fanboy
Yeah Arcanine's back of its head developed so much as well
😂😂
The ORAS animation is my favorite. The force of the flames actually pushes the opposing Pokemon backwards.
About the name as to why I named him that: Tygadogast!
Tyga=taigā(jp)=Tigers
Dog=Dog(animal)
ast=Blast=Fire.
Hope you understand! ;)
Now I'm picturing a blast of energy made up of dogs and tigers that are on fire
Ahk

That's honestly a great name
Is Arcanine even s tiger?

@@jackb450 yeah 火 is fire lol
So it is essentially a Japnese world play meaning big fire?
You[']r[e] wrong It is called"daimonji".
Search "Gozan no Okuribi" or "daimonji".Then you can know the origin of the word.
Sorry for my poor English.
Fire Blast derives "大文字" (daimonji) .
"大文字" is one of the events which represent summer in Kyoto.
It's drawn by the fire like "大" in the mauntain.

Fire blast represents kanji ; 大 ,so fire blast is called daimonji=大文字 in Japanese . 大文字 means character of 大;dai .
大;dai means big , large or great .
I appreciate the dedication to this doggo being fresh lv 72 in every circumstance.
Fire Blast is one of the best and powerful fire type moves in Pokemon
It has a too low accuracy
Jagalalla it’s not the worst though. Other moves do worst ( and I don’t mean 1-hit ko moves)
One of the most powerful yes. Best, not really. I'd rather rely on Flamethrower or Flare Blitz. Occasionally Blast Burn.
Yup but I don't usually use Fire Blast I just use Flamethrower
Sacred Fire says hello. 50%burn.
I miss the spinning fire-ring aspect when the user was generating the flames. Made the move feel more like a magical attack than a generic fireball.
While not all that reliable (nor my favorite Fire-type attack), I’ve always enjoyed using Fire Blast, too. :) My favorite animations are in Generations IV and VII, and in ORAS. Was Arcanine needed for each demo, though?
Gen 7 has the best looking animation of it!
It just becomes a big ball of fire until it hits a target and forms the kanji!
AlexThat200 yeah cuz it’s much more advanced technology lol. Gen 2 was the best for what was available
ORAS did it best. The kanji is perfectly shaped, it fires out as and stays a kanji symbol the entire time, and the way it flies and impacts has a lot of tangible weight and power to it.

Hi Mixeli! Could you possibly consider also using Pokémon Mystery Dungeon footage seeing as you're covering a sidegame like Let's Go? That would be much appreciated!
You already did fire blast, now you HAVE to do Thunder, Blizzard and Hydro pump as well.
Thunder: Pikachu
Blizzard: Articuno
Hydro Pump: Blastoise
Thunder should be Zapdos!
Awesome video 🙂 How did you get color on Pokémon Red/Blue? I thought they were colorless until Pokémon Yellow. I look forward to the next upload!
The design of the move is actually based on the Daimonji.
The Japanese of this move is called “Daimonji” which refers to an activity of lighting several bonfires making patterns of kanji on the mountain at the peak of Odon Festival. One of the kanji pattern is shaped 大 which means “big” and is the reference to this move

“Fire blast” is “DAIMONJI” in Japan
“Daimonji Yaki” is a famous festival in Japan
大 should be renamed “Fire Blast Symbol” by the Unicode Consortium.
I'm glad ORAS updated the Fire Blast from X & Y - that Fire Blast was pretty lackluster.
