Might want to reverse which end is on the inside. If you leave the plug on the inside you would then take just the socket to the tool and not the whole reel. Could then leave it mounted somewhere near an outlet so it could be used that way but still have the option of taking the whole reel somewhere else to use it.
Love this hose reel. Agreed on switching the sides. I love the quick release bracket with such a satisfying fit. I might attach that to a post that would allow your whole reel assembly to pivot 180 degrees to keep it from hitting your shoulder and also allow you to pull out the extension cord directly towards any side of your shop. Very cool design.
I was about to mention the same thing. I bought 50’ power cord and automatic recoil reels for $5 each. The ends were backwards from the manufacture. Cut them off and swapped them and I’m very happy with them. But I personally like my 5 gallon bucket. I have two small holes in the lid one in the center and one close to the edge. Center one is bigger. One by the edge has about 3’ of the male end hanging out and the center is coiled up through the big hole. Set next to a plug, grab the female end and start walking. Cheap and simple. But his is nice and well made.
my brother you one of my favorite carpenters, and believe me it's about 3 of you that I think are badass and not to say all the other carpenters ain't great and amazing, but you bro are very creative. I LOVE how you've put your work shop together, truly something to be proud of. I'm a young wood worker coming up in the game. I struggle a lot with the creative side but I'm doing my best at my level but anyway I love your channel and I'll always Be tuned in. keep making it happen PEACE
Just wanna say your videos are great mate. No flashy equipment used just everyday tools most people have. Great stuff. Just about to build some actuating floor clamps to fit loads of doors. Brilliant 👏🏻
Your videos are always heavy hitters and I look forward to watching them. Hope you continue and don't run out of ideas. Maybe you got a project that you through was too big or crazy to do... well that is the the kind of video we need! Everything in your shop is an example of how creative you are none of them are seen anywhere else.
It's awesome to have an option that's not a cheap, ugly, plastic piece of store-bought junk that's going to fall apart after rattling cheaply for a few months!
I LOVE this idea! My shop floor is cluttered with cords and a solution like this would be fantastic. I think that many times a diy solution is the best option. We are creators and when we make diy tools, jigs, and storage solutions instead of just going out and buying something we are actually exercising our skills. Great project!
I really appreciate your work, the way you engineer everything and think about every details, the building quality and your videos too ! Thanks for sharing so many awesome projects.
Always remember, if it's worth doing it's worth overdoing. Nice job. I particularly like the mounting bracket. Mine are sitting around on the floor of my shop.
As always "our" genius man comes through. Wow! When I was viewing your video at the beginning; I pondered how you were going to make it work. But as always, you finished a new "Gem" again. And yet so simple. Thank you kind Sir; for sharing your innate talents; when it comes to "Woodworking". Love it!
It's a great looking reel but it's not something that I would hackle. One question for you, do you ever make mistakes? If so, it would be nice to see them in the video.
Morning, yes it would have been easier to buy a reel, but as you said it was good to make one. And as you had most of the required material on hand, you were able to show us how to make one. Thank you,Wiz
This is quite creative, almost like a project whose purpose is to use common things in the most imaginative way. Sure, I won't build one like that, but it was so much fun watching you attach bearings and retainers, and the handle on the bolts with spacers to put it in the middle: I liked it all. It's always fun to watch you solve problems in a different way from everyone else.
I really like it, great project. I drilled a hole in the bottom of a bucket and just coil a cord into that, with the male end of the cord coming out of the hole. I like this method, easier to coil, I'd just add more cord on the inside, so you don't have to uncoil the enter thing to plug it in.
Hey! Nice job. I think it's completely worth designing, building, experimenting, and getting some practice along the way. That's what it's all about, if you ask me!
of all the years i have been using extension leads i never thought this was going to be a interesting video, how wrong i was, loved it. some of your projects i have used in my own small workshop changing the odd thing to suit me, keep the videos coming loved it!!
This is one of the best diy reels I’ve seen on TH-cam. I agree with another post about reversing the cord so the male end is on inside so you could leave reel on wall and pull female plug out for use with tool
Good video. Only thought I had was to hinge the mounting if possible so that, when not in use, the entire reel holder can fold flat against the wall thereby taking up less space.
Brilliant work, Jean! Really well done! 😃 But, you know, you could've used even a piece of PVC pipe to make the internal part. I can see lots of different ways to making it! That's what I love so much about the DIY community... 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Absolute genius! I have decided that you should come to Florida, USA next winter & bring a laptop with all your designs. Stay at my home enjoy the beach and warm weather while you design my shop. Just a suggestion. (dream)
I for one think it's awesome! 😍 I'm thinking of using a piece of 4 or 5 inch PVC pipe for the inner roll (using what I have to hand) Do you think it will work? I have a 100 ft roll of 12-gauge, 3-wire drop-cord that I wanted to make a roll for. It's cumbersome to move about and I have a fear of twisting the wires trying to roll it up without a reel. I also love the wall bracket.
It definitely isn't overkill. It's ecsessable and worthwhile and it looks pretty cool. A must have when it comes to stray extension leads mate. Great video 👍🏼👍🏼
Definitely the best most robust cord reel I have ever seen and the way you came up with to store it on the wall is great. I really enjoyed watching you build it. I guess my only problem is i don’t know that I could build it and it work lol. Thanks for another good video.
Cool design. I purchased some nice ratcheting ones that I ended up fixing a French cleat bracket to, allowing me to hang it as well as quickly remove when needed
Great video again. I think it is indeed a little overkill. However I understand that you produce these videos because they are A) diy B) fun to explore what is possible or what works and C) simply because you can do it. Btw, these are exactly the reasons why I watch it. Everyone can buy an extension cord rail, but where is the fun? Don’t stop exploring.
Love it! So much more satisfying than some tack from a big box store. And the combination of the weight and the bearings should fix that perennial problem of walking out the cable and having the thing bouncing along behind you.
There are two things I would have done to improve this...and for my own personal needs. That is..used the french cleat to store it and, Have a fixed double socket on the front of it which you plug into the female part. You still get the ability to remove the lead...but you get a better socket on the front. You are an absolute genius mate. Your workshop is ingenious and incredibly useful. I will be using a lot of your ideas on my new workshop project.
Love it, reckon my boss needs something like that for his retail rubber extrusion shop! As sometimes we need to re-roll from large roll into smaller ones to suit the shelving! Might have to make one that can hold the plastic reels! Thanks for the inspiration!
I really like this, I am sure it's not light weight and plywoods not cheap any longer but I wonder about adapting the idea using a piece of 100 or 125mm PVC pipe? Keep up the good work. Also having the ends reversed comes with its issues; how to keep 4 foot of cable inside the centre or have it getting tangled. If you don't completely unroll, you may be limited with regard to the load you can use.
That looks great!! My only thought is putting 3' or 4' of the male end on the inside so you don't have to remove the entire cord if you don't need that much. Awesome video as always though. Keep up the great work sir!
Ok I'm genuinely curious how it is that you always manage to mix metal and wood together in your projects? . I could look up 10 different cord reel DIYs and none would have bearings, spacers and did I see cone shaped washers too?? What gives on all the metal bits and bobs?? My metal skills serious lack so I'm always interested in how a woodworker got into using metal for some parts. Thanks.
I like it. I was surprised you didn’t store the reel flat against the wall instead of sticking out. What about a hinged bracket to allow both orientations?
Very cool idea Boet, I think it’s much better than a store bought item and any time to be in the shop is always lekker. Nicely done. Any plans available for it??
Awesome I would definitely build one with the reverse plus position and thiner material. Perhaps 1/2 " ply. But I is absolutely outstanding. I would like to ask, how much material did it require?
Without question it's the most complicated chord reel I've seen to make, but also innovative and oddly attractive.
Rope bags. They're magic. Rope goes in through tiny hole. Rope does not tangle or knot. Handy dandy handle and protects cord.
Might want to reverse which end is on the inside. If you leave the plug on the inside you would then take just the socket to the tool and not the whole reel. Could then leave it mounted somewhere near an outlet so it could be used that way but still have the option of taking the whole reel somewhere else to use it.

@@tonyblanco305 Don't forget to first remove the plug from the socket otherwise you will "twist" the cord and break it really fast
my brother you one of my favorite carpenters, and believe me it's about 3 of you that I think are badass and not to say all the other carpenters ain't great and amazing, but you bro are very creative. This is fantastic! Way better than some cheap throw away plastic piece of junk. Great project and I look forward to revision 2! Cheers!
Your videos are always heavy hitters and I look forward to watching them. Hope you continue and don't run out of ideas. Love it!
I like the accessibility of both ends of the power cord. Great job!
I want to say that this is one of the most over engineered pieces of shop equipment…but man does this look fun to build. Well done.
It might be overkill but I like the way you engineer it anyways. Always inspiring! Thank you
It's a great looking reel but it's not something that I would hackle. One question for you, do you ever make mistakes? If so, it would be nice to see them in the video.
Very nice. I have one of those store-bought plastic reels... trust me... yours is a HUGE improvement!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
Morning, yes it would have been easier to buy a reel, but as you said it was good to make one. And as you had most of the required material on hand, you were able to show us how to make one. Thank you,Wiz
I think I got your idea, it seems awfully easier but with the same functionality.
Could you share a little bit of more
Details?
I work for a large corporate were alot of mampara's are given their engineering titles, you my friend are a REAL engineer.
every project you build increases your knowledge base and improves the execution of ideas - that is always worth it!
This is quite creative, almost like a project whose purpose is to use common things in the most imaginative way. Sweet cord reel. Yeah, anyone can go buy one of those cheap cord reels but we’re “makers” we make as much as we can! Well done 👍🏼
I really admire your ingenuity, and of course buying a reel is way easier, but this makes a better and more informative video!
I really like it, great project. I drilled a hole in the bottom of a bucket and just coil a cord into that, with the male end of the cord coming out of the hole. I like this method, easier to coil, I'd just add more cord on the inside, so you don't have to uncoil the enter thing to plug it in.

Props to a creative invention. Yes agree it’s a lot easier to buy but I love the unique design
Yea, love the idea and design.
Fantastic man ! I like the way you present your project !
I think it's awesome that you can come up and execute these ideas for your shop. Nice build and one of a kind.
When you have a nice shop like yours, make it. The wall bracket is what makes it worth it. 👍
Excellent!!! Thanks for the idea! Would definitely like to see more videos like this.
Love the innovative idea. Can imagine 4 or 5 of these on my garage walls for each long cord. Also for air hose reel, rope, etc.
Overkill? Of course ... Necessary? Of course not ... Am I jealous of your cord real? Absolutely!! Cheers .......
Nice job on that! Thanks for taking us along.
Brilliant work, Jean! Really well done! 😃
But, you know, you could've used even a piece of PVC pipe to make the internal part. I can see lots of different ways to making it! That's what I love so much about the DIY community... 😂
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Compliments on the audio in this video - noticed you upgraded to a lapel mic - sounds AMAZING!!
Wow, that was beautiful. Of course it was overkill, but that's what makes us "Woodshop Junkies"!
Absolute genius! I have decided that you should come to Florida, USA next winter & bring a laptop with all your designs. Stay at my home enjoy the beach and warm weather while you design my shop. Just a suggestion. (dream)
Very cool. Love it, and it matches your needs much better than a store bought one. Good job
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing. You are blessed with skill.
Lovely and handy, nothing more is needed.
I for one think it's awesome! 😍

Great design and build I really like it thanks for sharing
Love the project, great engineering!
looks like a super fun project. always love seeing projects to make the workshop more enjoyable.
Awesome project!!! I think it is better that buying an ordinary reel. :-) Do you perhaps have a plan available for your belt sander jig please?
Really a great design and very practical
It definitely isn't overkill. It's ecsessable and worthwhile and it looks pretty cool. A must have when it comes to stray extension leads mate. Great video 👍🏼👍🏼
Definitely the best most robust cord reel I have ever seen and the way you came up with to store it on the wall is great. I really enjoyed watching you build it. I guess my only problem is i don’t know that I could build it and it work lol. Thanks for another good video.
Yessir! Beerings always makes things smoother and chicks prettier.
That is a bad ass cord reel !!!
Very creative and awesome!!!
Cool design. I purchased some nice ratcheting ones that I ended up fixing a French cleat bracket to, allowing me to hang it as well as quickly remove when needed
Very good and interesting project! In several ways, better than the ones you can buy.
Buying one is fine...
Building one is FUN!
Great video again.

Incredible build!
Love it! So much more satisfying than some tack from a big box store. And the combination of the weight and the bearings should fix that perennial problem of walking out the cable and having the thing bouncing along behind you.
Hello, can u tell me what bit u need to use to make the wheels Pls?
Very good idea. I will build one next weekend or so... Brilliant

You are an absolute genius mate.
Your workshop is ingenious and incredibly useful. I will be using a lot of your ideas on my new workshop project.
You could add a swivel to the wall mount to fold it out of the way when it’s not in use. Not that it’s not good enough already, but hey, why not?
As usual, your ideas are awesome. I love it! I want to make one too. Would you mind sharing info on the bearings you used - size, supplier, cost?
Love it, reckon my boss needs something like that for his retail rubber extrusion shop! As sometimes we need to re-roll from large roll into smaller ones to suit the shelving! Might have to make one that can hold the plastic reels! Thanks for the inspiration!
looks like a fun project!
Overkill... possibly.
Awesome... absolutely 💯
Very nicely made!
Love this. Don't see any plans for this in your plans store. Any chance plans could be added for this?
Very cool. Overkill, yes, but it’s yours, it’s not plastic, and it works well. Well done. Darlington, South Carolina USA
Once again the MacGyver of woodworking pulls off a great project. Of course you should have bought one!
Yes, you could have bought a reel, but this is a million times cooler :)
Nice design Great job
quite the clever idea i like it!!
I like it. I might have use something different than the rubber O-ring but it works
awesome project. Greetings from Brazil
Nice job and design
Man u just keep on impressing!!!
Great build as usual! I would have made the centre wheel out of aluminum to reduce weight. And like others mentioned switch the male/femelle plug.
Pretty impressive! Works, does what you wanted it to!! What more can you ask for?
That looks great!! My only thought is putting 3' or 4' of the male end on the inside so you don't have to remove the entire cord if you don't need that much. Awesome video as always though. Keep up the great work sir!
Simplesmente incrível meu amigo seu trabalho, esse projeto é bem complexo mas de muita excelência... Parabéns e grande abraço... 🛠️👍🏼
Great design. Question, when are you going to complete the table saw sitting in the corner?
Ok I'm genuinely curious how it is that you always manage to mix metal and wood together in your projects?
.
I could look up 10 different cord reel DIYs and none would have bearings, spacers and did I see cone shaped washers too??

Jou goed blymaar altyd prakties en baie goed. Tyd dat jy die tekeninge opstel en verkoop.
Awesome
I would definitely build one with the reverse plus position and thiner material.
Perhaps 1/2 " ply. But I is absolutely outstanding.
I would like to ask, how much material did it require?
Smashed it my bru.
Nice job!🙂
Brilliant design and execution.
May want to add a 4 x socket?...
Very good job perfect tank you
Excellent.
Very clever
I would take the hand made over a store bought anytime. Plus yours will last longer!😉
Fantastic!!!
