    I’ve watched like 10 customisation guides for KDE and everytime I give up on the over the top in your face colors and neon icons. You my friend deserve more views. Kudos! The only guide I’ve found where I don’t need to change anything but the wallpaper!!!

    Ambro, at around the 40:40 mark when you make the config change, I found that if you go back home in settings and choose 'dark theme' and then go back to select the arc dark them in global, the window colors will be fine without deleting out the content of that config file.

    Hi Ambro, thanks for this video, super helpful and informative. One question, when I was setting up powerlevel10k i was only able to see the diamond, all the other icons did not look like they were suppose to. For example, I couldn't get past the 'lock', it gave me 2 tries and neither of them looked like a lock. When I was done setting up I don't see any of the cool icons in my terminal. Do you know how I can fix this? Maybe I don't have the right icons loaded on my machine? Thanks in advance for your help.

    • @ambros470
      @ambros470  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're not seeing the icons, it's usually because you don't have the fonts installed. You can install them directly from the terminal or from the Powerlevel10k github.

    your setup looks really great, nice and polished. however, I really don't get all the hype about the mac style dock. doesn't anyone maximize their windows any more? while I think this and similar themes look awesome on screenshots, I get probably over annoyed when I see the maximized windows and the voids on the sides of the dock below just being there, not being useful and showing tiny parts of the wallpaper. especially on laptop screens. I know some people think putting your dock vertically on the left edge is a bit too like ubuntu, but it makes more sense to me for laptops. I also really don't like the autohide feature, so when you hover down, your dock pops back up over the maximized window. you might have guessed I use a bottom panel layout. I sometimes try switching it up, but I always come back to it, maybe because it's the most consistent layout, even though it doesn't look as good. right now I think your theme is awesome, aaaaaaand I can't use it. this is not a rant against your great video, I'm just oversharing a bit :D and I'm curious about your views on this.

    Nice customization! Just a quick question , as a beginner I find it perplexing to tell the difference between installing with yay , flatpak or kde store ?

    • @ambros470
      @ambros470  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So the package manager for arch systems is a program called "pacman."
      Pacman pulls from arch's official repositories, but not from the user repository, "AUR"
      Yay acts likes pacman, but also pulls from the AUR, so it has access to a lot of user sourced packages.
      Flatpak is a completely different way of distributing packages. Typically youd need to install dependencies to make a program work (pacman does this automatically). And if two programs have overlapping dependencies, they can share it; it only needs to be installed once.
      Flatpaks are containerised. The program ships with all of its dependencies and runs in a sand box. This is nice because its distro-neutral, but can lead to a lot of redundancy since you may, and probably will install the same dependencies multiple times. I've found flatpak really useful for Ubuntu/Debian based systems, but not as necessary on Arch.
      The KDE store is a graphical front-end for pacman. They may offer support for flat pak installation through the store, but last time I used it, it was just the arch repos. Its the same as using the CLI to install a program.

    I am running Pop OS and have just installed the KDE Plasma Desktop. Will Yay run on this system? I am not sure if it will depend on the distro or the desktop environment.

    • @ambros470
      @ambros470  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yay will not work on PopOs so far as I know. Yay acts as a sort of package manager for the AUR: The Arch User Repository.
      You'll need to consult the packages GitHub in order to download the right version (as with the Latte Dock).

      I came to arch after only using Elementary OS for about a month. As a lay-person, I didn't know what git was. There's a lot of information veteran users take for granted that help to keep Linux in general, and Arch in specific, inaccessible.

    I followed your steps on customizing the terminal, and everything looks great! One thing I'm struggling with is the OS icon. It's showing the penguin, and I'd prefer the Arch logo. Powerlevel 10k pulls the icon automatically. If you're running a different distro that's arch based, but not arch, like EndeavorOS, then you'll see the linux penguin instead. I haven't figured out a way to change that icon otherwise.
