Great track, great sax, great tempo. Just a very sweet, well written 80's pop song that still sounds fab today. Got to love a bit of Haircut 100 and still performing I believe, a sign that their musical passion still burns bright. Best wishes. 👌
Great song…great band….saw them at a free concert in Cleveland when this was released…great musicians….who were all different musically…punk..jazz…pop…progressive…rock…reggae……all mixed together came up with this great noise.
They were considered to be pure cheese by us rockers in the 80’s and dismissed as such but this has a great nostalgic feel to it along with Duran Duran,Spandau Ballet,The Cult etc etc. I’ve also, gulp, warmed to ABBA !! Must be getting mushy in my old age.
Oh that ending is like he's found his "Plus One" and wraps her up with a slow sway on the dance floor, a dip, and a kiss... fade to black. Very romantic. ;)
Love Plus One entered the UK Top 40 on the 30th January 1982 and peaked at no.3 The Top 10 this week was... 1 - Kraftwerk - The Model 2 - The Stranglers - Golden Brown 3 - Shakin' Stevens - Oh Julie 4 - The Jam - A Town Called Malice 5 - Meatloaf - Dead Ringer For Love (feat. It was a magical fun time to be a teenager.
Hi JP. DP from UK. Yes, it's a Silly Love Song, but as Macca sang: What's Wrong With That? I remember their four top ten singles in the UK back in the early 80s, and I think the sax gave them something extra. Nice xylophone (marimba?) in there too. Another reaction channel, Rob Squad, recently had singer Nick Heyward on as a guest to talk about the band and this song.
I came to this song about 15 years after it was released. Great tune. Those lyrics though. How does the lyricist know he’s finished with a song like this?
This album is at the bottom of my 80s pile but you made me want to jenga it out and give it a spin. Kingsize (You're my little steam whistle) is as crazy fun as its title implies.
Pelican West has all nicely composed, well arranged songs. Like the Doobies and Chicago, Haircut 100 has a conga drum player -- this song has a little of it in the background.
Just a lovely, warming ‘feel good’ song… never tire of it! I think it was xylophones you were hearing not steel drums .. but general tropical feeling was attained
YES!!!! Mine too! I knew the other songs but clicked on a random track a few months ago and it was that song. WOW. I had no idea - it's pure funk. Really enjoyed listening to the whole record and now I need a copy!
Does anyone know exact instrumentation of the catchy Dut Dut Dut....Dut Dut Dut.....Dut Dut Dah Dah Dah? I think I hear a violin mixed with sax, but there doesn't seem to be fiddle in rest of song so I'm skeptical
I love this song (and band) as I was a kid when I first heard them, and there's plenty of room for fun in music. 😀They recently did a set at Tea in the Park. 🙃
YES!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU! Interesting that you call out Les Nemes here on bass - because ALL songs are credited as written by Nick Heyward EXCEPT my other favorite "Love's Got Me in Triangles" which is co-written with Nemes - it's FUNKY AS HELL! If you do go down the list on this record it's gonna be a while til you get to it because it's track 10 - just remember I told you so! ;) Lemon Firebrigade is next - and it's good too - mostly funky instrumental. One more thing. This era is known as the "second British invasion", and Brits, IMO, just demanded their pop be more musically sophisticated than American pop. You have great bands in America, like Talking Heads etc, but the bands on a level, musically, with England were more alternative than mainstream top 40. It had more meat, more texture, but didn't weigh down the song or the listener. I doubt there will ever be a time as great in pop music again. Remember Heyward and Co were all of 19 years old writing and playing this level of pop music.
Don't know if it's been mentioned (don't have the time to go through the comments) but you did a listen/reaction to a solo Nick Heyward track back a couple years back.
Haven’t heard this since back in the MTV heyday. Ok, but not going on my playlist, LOL. If you want some really fun and (IMHO) much better written and performed music, PLEASE check out Barenaked Ladies and They Might Be Giants.
It is now, definitely, impossible to hear anyone use the words "where do we go from here?" in ANY context without replying "is it down to the lake I fear?" Curse you, Heyward!
Certainly not a great song. But a super-fun record with the so many appealing sounds, the sax, marimba, tasty vocals. One of the catchiest tunes ever. Always loved it.
@@Owlstretchingtime78 But that's just my subjective opinion too! And I wouldn't say the 80s were a great time... (at most 80 to 82, but that's about it).
The Eighties were a great time for marimba/xylophone noises! And I hope one of these decades the Sax will come back to popularity. :)
Closed my eyes and felt I was 19 again. Can remember where I was and who I was listening to it with all those years ago.
I heard it as a sound. Up beat and rhythmic. Hit me in the right mood.
Great track, great sax, great tempo. Just a very sweet, well written 80's pop song that still sounds fab today. Got to love a bit of Haircut 100 and still performing I believe, a sign that their musical passion still burns bright. Best wishes. 👌
This entire album is so so good. It was listed on some of the audiophile lists of best music to use to evaluate equipment. Amazing stuff!
Underrated band / their instrumental ability, fantastic production led to some pop gems.
Brill reaction ❤️👍🏽👍☘️
Liked my own comment 😂
The whole album is great. Perfect for playing while on vacation down the shore
Great song…great band….saw them at a free concert in Cleveland when this was released…great musicians….who were all different musically…punk..jazz…pop…progressive…rock…reggae……all mixed together came up with this great noise.
I love this song so much and it brings back so many memories. They the epitome of cool in 1982!
They were considered to be pure cheese by us rockers in the 80’s and dismissed as such but this has a great nostalgic feel to it along with Duran Duran,Spandau Ballet,The Cult etc etc.

OMG this is one of my most favorite 80’s songs…. Thank you so much for reacting to it.❤️
Oh that ending is like he's found his "Plus One" and wraps her up with a slow sway on the dance floor, a dip, and a kiss... fade to black. Very romantic. ;)
My teenage years watching MTV.
Nick Heyward has lived in Tampa for the last 10 years or so. Maybe look out for any local gigs!
I remember buying this on 7" single. Great song. Cool reaction.

This is the most fun song to forget and remember again at random times! 42 yrs and counting!
Lovely track... really nice writing and melody for miles.

Great ! Its got a "Men at work" feel to it . Great reaction

I love this song in 1982, and I like
the song now. Nice pop song.
Great analysis and reaction.

Brings me back to 1982. Love it.
They had a great semi-instrumental called Lemon Fire Brigade that was almost on par with Love Plus One.
Perfect or near-perfect album. If I had to pick a favorite track it would be "Love's Got Me In Triangles". Nice reaction.
YES!!!! Mine too! I knew the other songs but clicked on a random track a few months ago and it was that song. WOW. I had no idea - it's pure funk. Really enjoyed listening to the whole record and now I need a copy!
It's a fantastic day watching you react to Haircut 100's Love Plus One.
This is my jam!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The vocalist Nick Heyward has an amazing song called Warning Sign among other gems
They just their first new song in 40 years 'The Unloving Plum'. Pretty good one even if it sounds more like Nick Heyward solo than Haircut 100.
Nick Heyward had a solo career in the 90s.. Kite hit #4 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart.

It's just great feelgood pop music. Nothing more, nothing less! 🙂
For one thing, Haircut 100 doesn't make me feel good, and for another, it's not even good pop music! Everything I hate about the 80s.🤢
@a.k.1740 Rather forceful my friend. This is purely my subjective opinion on what i consider a great tune and a great time to be alive.
@@Owlstretchingtime78 But that's just my subjective opinion too! And I wouldn't say the 80s were a great time... (at most 80 to 82, but that's about it).
@@a.k.1740 I personally found a hell of a lot more during that decade. Owning a record shop played its part, but you are patently a wiser man than i.
@@Owlstretchingtime78 I'm not necessarily wiser than you. Everyone has their own feelings.
Haven't heard this in DECADES. It hasn't aged particularly well. The little string flourishes are the best bit.
This one has not much to offer for me. Sorry, it's dull and uninteresting. mho
