Lyrics
Well there's a great amount of strain
About getting on that train
Every day and every night
The only thing that makes it good
Is seeing my favourite sight
Prance and flutter stride down that green escalator yeah
When I'm getting off my train
And my love is on my brain
Every day and every night
The only thing that makes it right
Is seeing my favourite sight
Crying in the night with the summer in her eyes tonight
Fantastic day today
Fantastic day
Well I can find a funny feeling
Funny as a smile
When your mouth is all dry
Why?
Fantastic day today
Fantastic day
Well it's a fantastic day today
Well it's a fantastic day
I know I've lost myself again
True love has past me by
I tried to shave myself
Be a happier guy
Night and day
I can see it in your eyes
Now the summer never smiles
On a happy honey day
Am I being in the way?
When I'm so in love with you
I can't sit down and I cry in pain
With night and day
Fantastic day today
Fantastic day
Well it's a fantastic day today
Well it's a fantastic day
I was born in 71, raised in 81, and live in a musical time warp. Frankly I don't give a fuck. It's amazing how much really good music that just passed through the radio waves, effortlessly, all day long. great bands, musicians and singers. Haircut 100 was one of many great bands to listen to. You could listen to country, punk, metal, disco and pop all at the same time, and it would all be good. kids today just don't understand what they missed out on.
I was also born in 1971 (Year Of The Pig!). Music used to be so good. It dropped off in about 1987 for me & it has never been the same for me since.
You are so right! No music today can compare to what we listened to in the 80's!
The 80s just the best time to be alive can't believe this was 40 years ago where has the time gone.
Definitely
Summer of 82. Classic.
Who's listening to this wishing it was 1982?
Definitely, such happy days back then.
Richard Cook I wish it was 1982 even though I was born in 1996 - my manager was born in the 70’s and recommended that I listen to this band so here I am :) she says times were much better than now, more carefree
Me
Totally!
I wish 1982 had never ended !
I was with 3000 or so Chelsea fans at Sheffield Weds in the 80’s singing this as we left the stadium,,,,, what a memory.
What a memory. I was in Sheffield then. We were poor, but the music at the time was incredible.
Summer 1982. Just started sales career. Had somehow fluked a big deal with a company in Saffron Walden. Drove back to Chelmsford in company Ford Escort estate, taking the country route, windows wound down, belting this out as loud as possible from the state-of-the-art, factory-fitted cassette player! ha ha! Singing it over and over at the top of my lungs! It really was a fantastic day! And 39 years later? I am back in that driving seat feeling dead good about myself, listening to this. Oh... and still selling! Still loving it as well!
@@coilonportente5226 that’s why I’m here on a Covid lockdown day. Need that feeling😊
@mat mells That was one match I missed, thank goodness.
That must have been a great day.... cause it was the 80s and Chelsea weren't that great then... 😂😂
What I love about Haircut 100 is the sweetness of their music. Bright and, to me, innocent. Probably representative of my age when I discovered them and other 80's bands forever making their indelible impression on me musically.
After all this time this song still makes me feel good.
From an old essex boy thats purfleet
I was seventeen when this song came out .. if raised in these great times ...we never in our minds, leave these times !
I went into a barbershop back in 1989 and the guy told me I was his 100th customer so I have always had a love for this amazing band ❤
Nick Hayward is such a great artist. No way is this song 37 years old. They don't make songs like this nowadays.
if you had this song going through your head, and you didn't know who it was by, and someone told you it was by Elvis Costello, then you would believe them I think. :)
Nope it's 39 years old now
Back when this came out, Haircut 100 was promoted as an old-fashioned instrument-playing band, not a bunch of programmed synth - that was part of their appeal.
Songs about having fun - no they don't
@@michaeldeyes6457 Forty years old now.. Oh my, where did time go? I feel old. Yikes.
Such a happy joyful song, something you need these days to bring the cheer back 😊👍
My God! Nick Heyward was such a charming cutie. I just love how he mugs for the camera. So adorable! And of course Fantastic Day is a fantastic song. Pure audio sunshine. 😊 The Golden Age of New Wave produced such catchy timeless singles.
'Audio Sunshine' - I love it!
Love that - "audio sunshine"
@@Luvthesky 🌞
Was? What happened to him?
@@ElvarMasson Nick Heyward is still around but he's just not as prominent in music as he used to be. I love his solo albums North Of A Miracle and From Monday To Sunday.
TAKE ME BACK TO THE 70S AND 80S BEST TIMES OF MY LIFE
Me Too Buddy ❤
Got to be one of the happiest pop tunes ever written!
This band has made me smile for 40 years
Just saw them live a few nights ago - they've barely aged and were pure energy on stage!!
They sounded amazing & were so gracious to the crowd!❤❤
Had failed my driving test 3 times. Woke up on the morning of the 4th test, with a big job interview afterwards in the afternoon. Put this on as I was getting ready, willing for everything come up trumps. Fluked the driving test and then got offered the job on the spot with £10k pay rise. Always get this on when I have a big day ahead now...
Brings back so many great memories. Great Song.
when you're down just listen to this and you'll feel great again
And to think he wrote this when he was only 15. I wish he could have only seen everyone in the U.S. dancing with joy to this happiness.
80's music is just the best even in 2021.
you mean especially in 2021
Good pop song, toe tapper and timeless. Always nice to discover these.
Looking forward to seeing these with my mum and dad at the butlins adult weekend in Skegness soon . My mum plays a lot of 70s and 80s and I love it
The most underrated era of pop music.
“Those days are over, they’re in the long gone by, Nevermore shall they return, no matter how hard we try.” - Benny Hill, 1974
🏴
This has gotta be my favourite Haircut 100 song, been listening to it for hours now and I adore Nick Heyward!!😍😎😍
Awww we dated in the early dayz. Yeah he was kinda gorjus....his work got in the way :( x
I was born in 1984 and I love music like haircut 100 in fact anything 80s I'm a sucker great era for music
An underrated 80s band.
I follow you on Instagram lmaooooo
Navva Bet Boat damn what’s your @💀
Transferaffection they made it big enough-real music lovers band
I think they were rated accurately.
They were well rated
The girls are gorgeous. The girls in the eighties were so glamourous and elegantly dressed. What a time to be a bloke out on the pull. xxx
Thinking back on 'Pelican West', a lot of effort went into those pop arrangements, a few with jazz-flavored instrumental parts. When I wore the album out I was just a giddy preteen who loved the fun sound, the quirky videos, and the cutest frontman who turned me into a total Anglophile. But they were a genuinely talented band. I like Heyward's solo work, but I wish Haircut 100 would record again...
Bring back the 80's...
Fantastic song 🎤🎵🎸
Go back there in a heartbeat 💓
23 02 23 in Glasgow were having a fantastic day listening to fantastic day...
This one & Night Boat To Cairo, happy days. The best fun ever.
Saw them live at Whams final concert at Wembley Stadium..they were great.
Saw these guys back in the early 80's during their first US tour, they were fun...!
I graduated High School in 1982, absolutely loved this kind of music then! i didn't appreciate than as much as I should have!
One of the truly best songs from the 80s.
I think this is 90's.
Fantastic song by a fantastic band!
👁❤💇♂️💯
Love this absolutely brilliant song.
I agree totally with all the comments I have read about the richness of the music we of the middle aged generation experienced compared to the empty, turgid machine-noise which the kids of today call music. Poor souls. What they missed.
i loved this from the early 80s, along with the english beat and others of the same era.
I still love Nick Heyward in 2020 ❤️
I saw them in 1982 in NYC. Really Great.
fantastic song, fantastic band
Got it on my Weetabix Top Trax cassette in the mid eighties
Weetabix Top Trax!! Oh yeah 😊
I bought this single back in the day....their best song!
My bedroom walls were covered in posters of Haircut 100 in the 80s. I was in love with Nick then and still have a crush on him!
Boss track.
I would choose some bits of 1982. Not others.
This song was a best part of the best of it.
No matter how f'd up the day might be for me this fun song usually deals with it. Now I'm getting married to my beautiful fiancee here in Texas on May 23 2023. That's going to definitely be a fantastic day. We can hardly wait.❤😂🎉
What a Fantastic song!😃
Coming here in March 2023. This song is still phenomenal.
And March 2024 for me!
Love this Band!
Legendary song. Released when I was just 8 way back in 1981. Still sounds like one of the greatest pop songs of the 80s. H100 had such a boys about town, urban, funky, groovy white soul vibe before Style Council had run with the idea more. Much better than professional posers like Duran Duran and Simple Minds etc.
Truly great song.
How dare you insult Simple Minds.
Duran Duran were not professional posers. They are excellent musicians particularly John Taylor.
How on earth has this only got 694K views?
So you're coming to Canada can't wait
Such Memories...
Saw them in Hollywood in 82'. They put on an excellent show!!! I remember because the Faulklands War was happening and it did not seem to bother the British band much. They were all having a great time!
I dont think Haircut 100 were actually deployed during the Falklands war.
@@Spectrescup Ha,ha!!! They were not very political.
That's us Brits for you ! Unassuming
Fantastic Daycade!
For no reason whatsoever this song just came into my head. So I came here to listen to it. Fantastic 😀
Same just now
I'd give ANYTHING to go back to these days!
FANTASTIC DAY GREAT TO HEAR IT AGAIN BRINGS BACK A LOT OF MEMORIES
Come back boys..you we're great Nick
Fantastic song great the80s
Love the song, makes me happy!!!
Great memories from a better time.
So true.
Happy Happy music that hasn’t aged-although I have !…
Don't care about the year agood song is agood song it just takes you back
What a track to start your day...!
Fantastic day
Best tune on the album, although none are bad.
Fun band, fun song, fun times
This is a fantastic Haircut 100 song and a feels so good song as well!!
They're all so kind and chipper
Saw them at Leeds University in 1982 and they changed my life !

Great video as well.

FANTASTIC pop tune
I play this album on the first really good spring day. But it makes any day better.
Wow I was 26 when this was released and a DJ on a local holiday camp. Definitely fantastic days. 👍👍
Pelican West is a great album
My first album. Love it.
Richard Cook,
Yeah, I'm listening/watching but only wishing it was 1982 again if, I could change or rearrange certain events. Give me that ability and you can have your 1982 all over again.
HBD 🥳🥳🥳🥳
What happened to bands like this ...82 was a great year
Weren't they just gorgeous? They all looked like they were thoroughly enjoying themselves too..... Missing the 80s. Better days all told. Nick Heywards smile..... Swoons xxxx
Herald convertible! And a great, great song. Better music and happier times in the 80's.
Lets go dancing!😁
Great tune from the best album of alltime! "PELICAN WEST"!
Bring it on
I heard one saturday morning 1982, what a great song nice and happy yes these were days.
I had never heard of this group until a friend sent me the link. Fun 80s stuff.
