  • The New England Patriots have become a dynasty, though it didn’t begin that way. Love them or hate them, Pats have captured this country’s attention like no other franchise. From two award-winning authors, this is the first complete story of a legendary team and its five championship trophies.
Stout and Johnson tell the history in full and in colorful detail, along with essays by Richard Johnson, Upton Bell, Leigh Montville, Howard Bryant, Ron Borges, Lesley Visser, and George Plimpton.

I worked for the team for 10 years during this time and loved it, I thought I would retire as employee of the Pats, went to the 85 super bowl and to me that was beginning of the end. It was sad when they couldn’t make payroll due to there pour money decisions, I think if they should have just sat back and took the TV money that stared rolling in , they would have been fine. But they rolled the dice with a street guy by the name of Don King? And the rest is history. I have always had respect for the team, even what went on behind the seen. And now I’m so thankful to the Kraft family for making this a great team. I just wish the Kraft family got this team before Victor did , if Mr Kraft did I’m sure I would be retiring as an employee of the the Patriots. But to me the Sullivan family gave everything they had to build this team. If it were not for this family’s love of this great game of football, there would be no football south of Boston. I thank the Sullivan family for all they did. Just think today. If someone want build a stadium for there team with no tax breaks? It’s crazy it even fathom, But this family got nothing, built a stadium from just what they could pull from there wallet and beg and borrow. I’m so great full to the Sullivan family. If it were not for billy and his hard work of his kids there would be no Patriots. Thank you Billy and family for all you have done for NE football. THANKS TO THE SULLIVAN FAMILY, the real die hard American family that gave everything they had to make sure NE had a football team. These guys don’t remember the old days at Harvard or Fenway ? This trash talking is crazy, if Chuck lived at the Stadium it was for the love of the game. Now I was there back in the day and never seen this. All I seen from the Sullivan family was hard work and sacrifice. So as a fan of football and the Patriots, I’m so great full the the Sullivan family and what they have sacrificed for NE football, and these loser that have stepped out to dream . There just losers to me. 👍 And I know that the Sullivan family would have never felt with these nay sayers, we were to busy making sure that we were that we we stayed in NE..to me these guys are just CHUMP CHANGE

My dad went to a few games at Fenway in the 60's. He later became friends with Larry Eisenhauer as they were both members of the same German/American club in Walpole.

There are plays in any random game played today in 2022, in which a rushing defensive lineman raises his arms making contact with the ball, and the quarterback falls backwards cowering after desperately heaving it, where roughing the passer is never called.

Will McDonough has countless Patriots stories, including setting up Orthwein's interview with Parcells whom he wound up hiring, setting the course for success. Will was at the debacle in Oakland on December 18, 1976. RTP was only one of literally a dozen calls and noncalls as the clock wound down, where the officials desperately did whatever they had to do to march the Fraiders down the field and give them the game, and the championship.

In the first three decades in which the Patriots had Pat Patriots on their helmets, they won more than they lost. After 1992, with 'throwback' uniforms they have won much more than they lost. Meanwhile prior to Tom Brady starting, they had a losing record with the flying elvis.

There was a MNF game vs. The Bert Jones Colts. I had a chance to go as a teenager. I opted not to go as it was a freezing cold down pour. The Patriots lost and I think there were a couple of heart lifting then heart wrenching kick returns for touchdowns.

That was the game that got them banned from MNF for years.

Just think, how far could Peyton have gone if he would have known the other teams plays ( ala Cleveland) or even better what if Peyton let the air out of the ball. Just being accurate.

What the guy at the beginning failed to mention is that when the fans were carrying the goalposts out of the stadium after the Cincinnati game in '85, the post touched w/ a power line, electrocuting and killing one of the carriers.
