This game has a bit of the Cartographers syndrome where using colored pencils helps immensely. I like to "plant" brown seeds and then "grow" in green pencil. It really helps clarify which fields are farther along and differentiates at a glance.
I really enjoy Three Sisters as well as Fleet the Dice Game. Also there is a small scoring section below the shed area that is very useful to help score the game 😊
I wasn't too interested in this when I first heard about it, but Fleet: The Dice Game was a hit with my family, and after seeing this review this looks even better.
Glad to see this get reviewed, Tom. Really enjoying this game. As an avid gardener AND board gamer, I am admittedly the absolute perfect target customer for this but that aside, I think the combo-tastic gameplay is very satisfying. You can win by taking all manner of different paths to victory as well, which is great. After quite a few plays now the two main things I would have critiques on are: 1) When your combos get going it can be easy to lose track of things and you might forget something that you are owed. The bonus actions can lead to some pretty long strings of things comboing in different directions. They give you a notes area on the board to help you keep track of stuff but it can still get a little "messy." 2) The teach is more involved than you might think. I've gotten pretty efficient with it now and I still feel like I need to take a big breath afterward, haha. Other than those two things though, great design and definitely a keeper for my collection.
Just played my first game and was looking for this point in the comments. While I really enjoyed the game, I had a combo that felt almost unbounded and was super unwieldy to keep track of. The pumpkins and goods can just go off!
Could be that someone else already gave it a 8.5+ on the channel so it gets that seal regardless of what Tom scored it. I don’t know that for a fact though, just a possibility.
This was the first game that I actually read the rulebook and taught myself the game. Usually I watch a video, but there weren't really any at the time I got this from Kickstarter. I thought it was very enjoyable! Making a bunch of combos back to back was so fun 😃
Really prefer this to Fleet TDG- I felt like there was a little more to coordinate and a little more control. The theme doesn't hurt either. =) VERY excited for Motor City!!
For anyone still on the fence about the fact that this game might look overwhelming and have so many choices that its hard to teach. Its really not too confusing once you start playing. I was able to teach this to my family, elderly parents that dont play many games and they were able to get it after a round of explanations. They even got excited when the game ended and discussed how they would do things differently mext time to try new strategies.
What timing. I'll be receiving a delivery of this very game today! I've really been enjoying another Pinchback and Riddle Roll & Write, Fleet: The Dice Game, so I had to get it.
@@bn5055 Thank you for the suggestions. Hadrian's Wall has been on my radar for when I get more experienced with less complex games. I've heard of Dinosaur Island R&W but haven't given it much thought. I will for sure now
Good game but I feel the sheets are a bit too busy with too much orange and green so you can miss things on there. Only negative really. Rules were a bit meh too I guess.
Thanks, Tom. Immediately seeing this I think of Fleet. My issue is where does roll and write end and a board game begin? Is this too much going on for a roll and write? I feel like I am working on spreadsheets and not playing a game. My family and friends like roll and writes (Quixx, Lost Cities, etc) but this is a bit of overload for them.
I enjoy this game, it's the first roll and write I have ever played. I had the sheets enlarged to A4 and laminated, it's so good. It's a good game to play solo as well.
For those who are watching this today or early tomorrow, this design team has their next game on kickstarter, called "Motor City." But, it's ending soon so ya might wanna back right away. I like the idea of Three Sisters, but am kind of overwhelmed with the nature theme these days, so Motor City seems like a better theme for me.
Been playing it a bit lately. I think it's very similar to Fleet the Dice Game, to the point it almost feels pretty close to a retheme or at least a very close sequel. It is a very fun game but not sure there is a reason to keep both Fleet and Three Sisters.
Being a roll and write, I wouldn't be surprised if Tom just approved it. But, also wouldn't be surprised if someone else came along and gave it a seal of excellence.
Hopefully Motor City will make up for how "okay" this game is, despite wanting the game for quite a while. Saw it at my local game store and had to wait for a review. I'm now saving up for Motor City.

I will be adopting this idea. Thanks!
Cartographers, however, is absolutely ridiculous without colored pencils or markers.
Pro tip! Definitely doing this!
Fleet the dice game is so good. I was wondering how this one would be. I wonder which one the dice tower likes more
I have played it a few times and it is really good. One of the best roll & write games in my collection.

Be aware the next game in the series is currently on KS.
at 1:19 it's dice equal to number of players plus 2
This is my front runner for favorite game of the year. It hits on all cylinders for me.

The scoring can be recorded in the appropriate section on the provided game pad. No need for a separate score pad

There was a goof. Tom said "approved!" but it got a seal of excellence sticker. Pretty sure this is just 'approved'.

Great question

Huh, I expected an ‘Excellent’ based on recent hype. Always curious what Tom thinks for this reason which is good imo to have his honest reviews. 👍🏻
Please disable auto saturation. Half of the colors disappear @10:54 when Tom waves his hands.
Love this game… the rules could have use one more review. Specially regarding the pumpkins and flower bonuses. It’s not as clear as it could be.

Definitely check out Hadrian's Wall and Dinosaur Island Rawr n Write too!

Wow that Groot art piece is amazing

anyone knows what that "word light box" behind Tom is called?
The person/people that played this game with Tom and was having a hard time grasping the watering mechanic sitting here watching this like 🥺🥺🥺🥺
😂😂😂

I watched this and at the end thought, "I sure am glad I have Fleet The Dice Game."
I didn't think I'd like this as much as Hadrian's Wall... I might like it better.

Great video 👍

This game is awesome!!! Love it!!
I love Motor City (the next game from this developer) but this game is just too hard to get my head around.
Wait....approved? Or excellent?
Came here to say this. "Approved" but also a seal of excellence?

I called the New York Times. They will investigate.

I felt this game was a little bit convoluted, such that its predecessor, Fleet: the Dice Game, is superior to Three Sisters.
Fun game, but wasn’t as good as Fleet the Dice game for me.
Took one look at the board and said "nope"
What didn't you like about the board?
@@StepintoThePortal I would imagine its too busy and ends up looking overwhelming
God dont real lol. XD
