I'm currently playing Space Age after adding my own mod (Scienceception) to my existing playthrough. I felt like the science packs of the other planets were a bit too simple and didn't require a lot of upgardes once the first pack making machine was made. I was hoping to see factories grow much more, so now I have a reason to make up to space science on each of the inner planets. It's actually the reason I made the mod in the first place.

rare earth patches came with alternate energy but everyone still uses the bolide because the patch needs naphtha
Your belt balancers won't pull evenly if everything is full, but they will fill a belt to full if the inputs have enough.
This is because your side balancers prioritize one side because of side loading. The other designs with forced splitting and undergrounds do pull evenly but are more expensive.
That said, my favorite balancers are circuit conditions on belts with loaders into a large box. It is a true even balance from any number of sides and lanes. (7 lanes to 2 lanes with all sides evenly pulled from, :) Output loaders do have a side preference if they don't have enough materials, but that is a supply problem
finished up 100% achievements in space age and switched to Py instead of going for an SPM goal. just finished Logistic science at about 70 hours
my main gaming pursuit is speedrunning though, so I'm also deep into that atm (Celeste all red berries category)
I'm finishing up my space age run - I'm working towards 240 SPM (1 green belt) and doing clean, modular, legendary builds.
The splitter / merger / lane balancer thing works (well) because it has a small build-in buffer in the form of the additional belt lane in the loop. If you didn't have that, it would stall if items came in at the same time in the final splitter. Right?
I believe so, yeah. That's a good point. I remember running into that type of issue back in my pure angels playthrough, where I had exactly 15/sec but was using filter splitters and there wasn't any buffer space and things backed up
I'm still playing factorio 1.10. There's mods that haven't got updated yet, and i wasn't finished with the map. So.😮
I think the top four science buildings in the two vertical stacks are not connected to the science belt

Currently, playing Py and doing my second run of Space Age, i am playing separably so i don't burn out on Py or Space Age
i don't think my brain could hold two different factorio runs at the same time
