What I really like about this aria is that there are many different ways to sing it and still do it justice. Different interpretations is what makes music worth listening to over and over again.
Breathtakingly beautiful. My favorite tenor since the great Corelli, who I saw in many operas. I get the same thrill from Juan Diego's exquisite singing, not to mention his spectacular fioratura.
Wow..Juan Diego has it all. It is one of the best, I have ever heard! Gorgeous voice . His voice is to die for!!! awesome performance .****It is Sad....... perfection like this is no longer available! Magnifique interprepation of una furtiva lagrima from Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore. !! unmatched!!! Beautiful voice, charming stage presence and very secure technique. Brava, ! A wonderful indeed!
The composer may indicate appropriate tempo and certain dynamics, but it is definitely up to the artist to make the piece his own, yet remaining respectful to the composer. I agree with you about Tito, he (as well as Gigli and Gedda) sing this with passion, beauty and elegance that is unparalleled, in my opinion.
Each tenor has its perfect version of some song. As Pavarotti had Nessun Dorma, and no one will do again that music as perfect as Lucciano, Juan Florez has in its performance of Una Furtiva Lacrima the most perfect version of this song.
Arent you ashamed to compare Flores with Pavarotti?? Flores has the whole voice in His nose, His.voice is thin. Listen to the old Singers, Like beniamino Gigli, Caruso. Then you will See that flores is a Nobody
Bella interpretazione.
Dios te tenga iluminado siempre a ti y tu familia
Absolutely fantastic! Of all the hundreds of versions 'out there' this must surely be one of the best, with beautiful tone, shapely phrasing, intelligent use of dynamics and a genuinely heartfelt rendering, None of the exaggerations chez Caruso, for example.
SmethiousReborn I don't disagree with you, and if you read my earlier comment carefully, you'll see that I was referring to Florez being "one of the best". Indeed I agree with you that as far as timbre of voice is concerned, Pavarotti's was perhaps the finest of all time. But aren't we lucky to have the luxury of such a vast range of excellences! Unfortunate (and limiting) to have to live with "only the best" - which is a purely subjective matter anyway.
Pavarotti is of course one of the best but looking at his face is painful, absolutely lack of emotions. That iron cast face made me to only listen to him and never watch him.
Here's a tenor that sings like its a walk in the park, and its so effortless he smiles and looks to be enjoying it,and he doesn't put on the old stereotypical opera voice which makes him more popular with non-opera aficionados. This guy is the tenor of the moment, and not up himself like the irritating Ronaldo!
I knew you would like him. The command of his voice in the lighter repertoire (he isn't really a Puccini singer RIGHT now, he should wait a while before taking on the heavier repertoire) reminds me a lot of Kraus' technical command and brilliance. Certainly a voice to watch out for!
They have different voices. So, Florez will be famous like Pavarotti in its own, appropriate repertoire! Yes,today it really is, famous like the best singers in the 20th century!
Even though I don't like lyric tenors as much as spintos, I don't think that there is anyone who sings this song better than Florez. Other examples of tenors owning songs are Domingo with "No puede ser"; Pavarotti with "Nessun Dorma"; For me Corelli owns "E lucevan le stelle". But Florez owns this one.
D . Flores!!!!!!!!
An absolutely gorgeous rendition of La Furtiva Lagrima sung by an equally gorgeous Juan Diego Florez, an excellent lyric tenor. Go compare him with Vittorio Grigolo and tell me if you like one better than the other or equally. Saw him on the stage of the Met several times. On a soul level, I think, Vittorio has a slight edge, being an Italian, singing in his mother tongue, without taking anything for Juan Diego.
I am not judging, I like them both, they are different, that is just my personal opinion. I've seen both performing on the life stage. I am asking people if they like each better, equally or not at all. Have you seen both live? You can have a personal opinion without being negative. TH-cam is a public forum.
Pardon me for being such a non expert about tenors' voices. Whether he is the lyric or light (leggere) tenor, Juan Diego had sung both roles in concerts beautifully. He is not a spinto, robusto or a heldentenor but I just like his singing without going into the technical details. But I will note your comment not that it would change my mind about Juan Diego Florez and his beautiful voice. All tenors crossed over to other tenor voices if they can do it,same with sopranos and mezzo sopranos.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Bocelli is another artist that is good for transitioning people from popular music to classical. Florez has a pop/classical sound; which is why he's so popular.
Me escuchas, Jaime I love you very much. Como respuesta salieron DOS LAGrimas DE SUS OJOS, RESPIRO LENTAMENTE Y FALLECIO. He is good but the Turkish Tenor Bulent Bezduz trully amazing in that aria. . Also he sings Donizetti's unknown operas Belisario. Incredible performance...
A Villazon me resulta molesto oirlo.
Bochelli is very very good. I like his voice. he can do pop music just great, but he is no Pavarotti. Florez can be as good as Pavarotti with time but why compare them? Why not enjoy the the pleasure they bring to our lives and be grateful.
The first Nemorio aria "Quanto e bella" sits much more comfortably in his voice I think. Una furtiva I don't think is a good fit for Florez. Never has been! A lot of the time his pitch isn't dead on and the sound is to thin for such a powerful emotional aria. That's just my opinion though. What a tenor! His Ah mes amis is absolutely fabulous. Evan

his voice just goes on getting better, fabulous voice

Bravissimo super beatiful musica Juan 👍👍💫💫💯💯💯💯

Maybe you should learn who can sing that aria well
Che piacevole lezione di bel canto! Bravo Florez.
''bel canto''?
Mucho gusto escuchar Diego Florez. Buenisima interpretacion.
Excelente desde Bogota Colombia un saludo.

Juan sings in his own right now..he dont need reference to Pavarotti..and he is honored by the comparison..They are both very great singers
Realmente conmovedor.....! Es delicia y caricia para el oído.....

that's just amazing.
My greatest tenor alive
Saw him last night at the Met's premier of Le Comte Ory, he was P-H-E-N-O-M-E-N-A-L !!!!!
I like lyric light tenors. I think he performed this aria wonderfully. Resounding vocal quality!
Poesia pura...
I knew you would like him. The command of his voice in the lighter repertoire (he isn't really a Puccini singer RIGHT now, he should wait a while before taking on the heavier repertoire) reminds me a lot of Kraus' technical command and brilliance. Certainly a voice to watch out for!
I saw him in Chicago, he is the best. In ten years he will fit in Pavarotti shoes
They have different voices. So, Florez will be famous like Pavarotti in its own, appropriate repertoire! Yes,today it really is, famous like the best singers in the 20th century!

Good rendition for this aria !!!!
I like that! It is sooo cool.
I started listening to this before I saw the video, and when I glanced at it I thought it was Steve Carell for a second.
Bella canzone
I couldn't have said it better myself. Bocelli is another artist that is good for transitioning people from popular music to classical. Florez has a pop/classical sound; which is why he's so popular.

Just discovered him from fille des régiments!
Look up Bülent Bezdüz singing Una Furtiva Lagrima here on youtube. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
He's not a lyric tenor, but a light tenor.
DIEGO YOU RE THE BEST THE BEST I LOVE YOU
@analca61
A Villazon me resulta molesto oirlo.
roldarin pienso lo mismo xd

evan abeling This area is the best for Florez, Just Luigi Alva could be more perfect.
I didn't like you in"Minuit Chretien", but here you're absolutely GREAT. Even better than di Stefanol
