Just got a driver failure on my 2014 Audeze LCD-3. Audeze is quoting me $580 for repair, but it will be an upgrade since they will install the latest drivers + new earpads + new headband ($95).
That's actually terrible. I know it's probably way out of warranty but man.
@@HomeStudioBasics used to be 800 lol, consider the best list price nowadays is $1,500 it means buying a broken pair at $900 is breaking even.... Not that bad at all really.

Interesting it was a 50 year old track that gave you this feeling. I wonder if modern "mixings for air pods" render some of this discussion obsolete, i.e. it's mastered to be in the mix much more, details aren't there to be revealed, they're already there.
After purchasing a pair of the LCD 3s. And listening to my favorite reference CD I was amazed at the things I was hearing for the first time..and I have listened to this album ( Louis Bellson Explosion) hundreds of time, the execution of detail is amazing, for example a saxophone section soli is all five playing their parts..the Alto sax leads the section..There is a point where it it written to perform a fall at the end of the phrase.. .I could hear that the Tenor saxs had extended their fall longer than the Altos…never had I heard that before..on other HPs it just sounded like one fall.
A live musical performance changed my life! No dac / amp was required !

The LCD-2 was what made interested in blowing thousands on audio, I think what you just said at 0:50 was what happened to me. I was like damn I want headphones that sound like this, I was like how much are these? OH WTF. Ok. Ok.
Saved up and got my first pair of legit headphones and here I am now. Quality headphones are a gateway drug lol
Me too. But in my case, my LCD2 didn't give me a wow moment at the first time I listened to it like some other headphones. It did it latter when I used my LCD2 more and more. While some other headphones that could make me wow at first became boring or fatigue later. Such an incredible headphone
@@hotam138 I dont know I really enjoyed it, I've been a huge fan of clarity when it comes to sound and I am guessing since there was some legit separation and a quiet back ground it was pretty nuts for me. I actually never even knew headphones that like that existed, the design of Audeze. Felt like putting on a fighter pilot helmet or something lol. I was so washed by main stream commercial garbage I thought those were crazy. I did know sennheiser, but I didn't know that it was audiophile or what audiophile/hi res was.
I went into this shop to demo some headphones, a forum sent me over there, they knew the owner. The gentleman who suggested it and I actually ended up preferring the focal clears over LCD-2 in the line up with the sennheiser 800s being the third headphone and I liked it the least of them all.
I say it's a gateway drug because I went from the headphones to speakers, and I prefer speakers now much more. Even though I still like my headphones. My first was the Focal Elegia and then I got the Hifiman HE6SEV2 and that headphone is a monster if you provide a massive about of power and large amount of gain. To me I like it better than the LCD-2 and some people do say it's a bit bright but I listen to it for 5-8 hours sometimes on a sitting in the evening when I cant play speakers.
Never owned a legit pair of speakers or any speakers that were driven by an amp or self powered outside like JBL Flip line
Bought my headphones in July 2020, now from last year until now; virtually less than a year in audio. I've spend nearly 10-11k on audio. But I am set. This Includes head amps, dacs, power amps, AVR/Home theater, and dedicated speakers for stereo listening in my "theater room" and living room is cracking the pinnacle of my journey. But, I would have probably easily spent nearly 15-16k without discounts and sales.
But being at home and no work, I listening for probably an average of 6 hours per day, not including any movie time.

@@hotam138 Yeah for whatever reason the LCD-2 didn't have the same effect on me as the LCD-3 and I actually *liked* it better from the standpoint of, "I would love to own this headphone if not for the comfort issue."
That's how I felt as well when I demoed the LCD-2 and Black Label. I really wanted a pair but the weight holds me back.
@@HomeStudioBasics Yea, I still haven't spent more than 700 on any headphones yet but got good performance. Those HE6's are like usually running around 1300-1800. After doing research they really need power, even the A90 isn't good enough for them, I am feeding it 10.5 wpc on a head amp with massive gain, dac gain and amp gain and I guess they say it's the detail king. Wouldn't knock it, it's really enjoyable. I got no neck issues, but yea they are pretty gnarly headphones no joke

The only headphones that sounds better is the LCD4 and the Abyss 1266 TC! LCD3 is the absolute best if you cant afford anything more!

Gosh I forgot to mention that lol. Yeah it scared me so bad my heart dropped into my stomach xD And of course, the infamous clocks at the beginning of time always scare you no matter how ready you are for them.
