I'm a man who can honestly say I've watched thousands of reviews on TH-cam. From cars to phones. Vacuum cleaners, to exercise bikes... This review may be the best I'll ever see.
😂 Yeah, I think the Utopia is pretty much the only headphone that deserves the type of love letter/send-off I gave it. Also, I just had deja vu that you said this to me before but I know you haven't. *cue twilight zone intro*
Just got one it’s arriving today since they are reduced in price relative to the new 2022 ones coming on the market. But keep hearing about the driver failure issue which was fixed in the 2022 version. Thoughts?
Hey bass head! Have you gotten a chance to experience the Utopia? If so what are your thoughts? Also big shoutout to 36 for the collaboration. Check out his music here: open.spotify.com/artist/1lcSbVHDXu6h6H6vIRDBhT?si=VGhexVebQd6vfvOiQISsKA Finally, another big thank you to my patrons for their continued support and encouragement. I may do a part 2 to this series but I haven't decided. Thank you to everyone who tuned in or will tune in in the future!!
Haha yeah man! Thank you. God Bless you as well. I've always been a philosopher type of person. I could talk for hours about all that type of stuff; existentialism was a big thing for me as well.
My kids will have to leave home before I can afford to buy headphones at the Utopia price tag, unfortunately. But hey, they seem to have brought you inner peace.
I’ve owned the Utopia for a couple years and while they continue to surprise me to this day, I still have the same struggles in life as before. Wasn’t a silver bullet sadly.
HAHA. Yeah man objectively describing the sound of the Utopia from a rational standpoint doesn't make much sense to me. Even analyzing it as I did in this video doesn't really do it justice.
Hi Stu, I've recently got the Sundara, it's really amazing for its price. I've also tried the HD 560S and I liked it a lot especially for 200$, have you tried the 560S? What's your opinion about it?
Thank you man! Someone mentioned that one in the comments and said he felt the same way about it that I feel about the Utopia. Definitely worth a listen! Hopefully, I can get one.
Yeah so I've been looking through my history to find my original question to you in a comment section but couldn't. I asked you about AMP/DAC suggestions for the 650. You mentioned the mojo, ifi idsd sig, ifi zen dac/can, etc. I ended up going with the ifi zen dac sig and singxer sa-1, I'm ordering both today. Overkill as hell for 650s? Yes, but I'll be using them to demo a ton of cans and find my true mystical, ever elusive endgame cans (lol). It's been a little over a month since I asked but the day I asked the hospital called me and said they had an OR booked for a surgery I needed so it some time to recover and only now have I finally decided on my gear lol.
I have the same impressions of the Utopia. I sold my motorbike 2 years ago and bought some headphones ... HD800, HE1000se, LCD X 2020, Empyrean, Solaris and the Utopia (hunted most down on the 2nd hand market obv :D) ... yeah went all out but it costs the same as a decent 2nd hand bike ... anyway ... that’s way too many headphones ... or is it? So I’m trying to cut down and decide which one to sell. And I always come down to selling the Utopia, then I listen to it critically and decide I can’t bloody sell it. Let me explain. Utopia is not a pleasant headphone, it does not have a wow factor for the average person. It is very source dependent (revealing if you will ... it will sound s from most sources), bass does not go that low without EQ, it’s upper mid forward so any recordings that can sound shrill absolutely will without EQ, and the sound stage is relatively small and packed ... sounds horrible right? Wrong ... it sounds fricking great because it reveals every aspect of the recording, details are off the charts, is it pleasant? No. Is it impressive for an audiophile? Hell yea. So that’s why I can’t bring myself to selling it. I always pick up any other pair for pleasure ... Empyrean is the best for that I think ... but I appreciate the technical ability of the Utopia too much to let it go. But if I ever have to sell one pair to pay rent or buy food, it will be the Utopia ... or will it? 😂
Your video was very emotional to me, thank you…since you made it, are there some other headphones that have come close or that have given you emotions of the same level? I really appreciate your videos and your reviews. Keep it up.
Damn. I feel you stu! Also, you're not making it easy for viewers to choose their "big thing" in audio. And i am still struggling with this choice too. Still the best.
Hey man! Yeah, for me it's the Utopia. I really would like to own a pair someday. After all the gear I've demoed, it's not even a question. And because of that, I can kind of empathize with the whole "try a lot of gear" stuff. It's easy for me to sit back and tell people not to go down the rabbit hole, but in actuality, it may be necessary to find what YOU like. What YOU prefer, and what YOUR forever headphone is. For me, it's the Utopia until I hear something better. Now, I'm not going to actively try and search for that, but being a reviewer I may stumble across something if that makes sense.
The verite closed did that to me. You do know it when you reach the endgame point. What you described is basically the verite closed for me. Since I heard it at canjam, I just kept wanting to own it. But I decided I should buy it after I finish my collection, to put it as the final masterpiece, that it is. Its an experience, you just hear everything, it makes you feel like you're at center of attention and sound is floating around you in a holographic manner, yet extremely and I mean extremely detailed way. I loved the utopia when I auditioned it at canjam, its better than the clear ( which I bought cause its kinda similar ), but its no verite, for me of course in my opinion.
Nice! Yeah, I know there are probably objectively "better" sounding cans than the Utopia, but at this point in my journey, I really couldn't care less. The Utopia is what I'd like to own someday.
Hey? How's the Sennheiser HD599SE open back? Is it way better than the HD206? I really need to know soon. Could you also do a review on the HD599SE? I'd be really grateful.
Hey man! Yeah, it's a better headphone than 206. homestudiobasics.com/hd-598-vs-hd-599-an-upgrade/ I don't know if there's a diff between the SE and regular 599 though. I'd wager no but don't quote me on that.
@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks for the Info, however I seem to be torn between the HD599 and HD559. What would you suggest of the two? I'm looking for an open back sort of experience with that wide natural Soundstage and imaging and these are the only two available where I live and within my budget, so what would you recommend of the two? Or should I just settle for the akg K245 open backs?
I experienced this when I have listened to some songs from my Focal clear. You reach a moment where you are one with someone else. The musician. The creation. The spirit. the world....beauty. I can understand the emotion you felt. this is love. Become a better person... I will get that Focal utopia at some point too.😊😉
Yeah man! If you've ever seen American Beauty, it's like that scene where the shopping bag is floating around in the air and the kid has that wonderful realization about life and the world. Funniest part about that is when i was writing the script for this I had a heavy spiritual moment (listening to the music in this vid) and lo and behold, I see a shopping bag float around outside my window, not even lying. That's never happened in 6 years living here haha. It was pretty cool.

Okay, but would you recommend it? Usually I scoff at, and don't even listen to reviews of gear over $2500. You have talked me into listening to them and if they are half of what you described, buying them. My investments will shoot the moon in the next year so the price will not be an issue.
Yes, I absolutely would. Resolve from the Headphone Show described it as the best dynamic headphone in the world and it absolutely is. No question. I would even take it over any planar I've tried. I would like to own one someday and do plan on it for sure. homestudiobasics.com/the-focal-utopia-will-change-your-life/
Dynamics are outclassed by planars and e-stats. Just remember as you go up your amp/dac/source need to be equivalent in price otherwise you bottleneck. Lucky the utopia is easy to drive

I was kinda shocked when it never came LOL.
I know your deepest and innermost feeling about this person at least. 😉😁
NO YOU DON'T!!! 😂
I would like to own one someday and do plan on it for sure. homestudiobasics.com/the-focal-utopia-will-change-your-life/
@@HomeStudioBasics Thanks. I was just be silly with my question. See next vid.
Dynamics are outclassed by planars and e-stats. Just remember as you go up your amp/dac/source need to be equivalent in price otherwise you bottleneck. Lucky the utopia is easy to drive
*The concept of self is just a construct meant to keep you closed off and divided from others* -- you never spoke truer words!
To the author, just find a low rate commercial loan and get some 2nd hand flagships. Sounds like it will change your life 😏
And yes, we are immortal beings, older and larger than this malevolent archon multiverse. We do not consist of energy nor do we occupy a location in space yet we are the creators of both. We are all brothers and sisters yet genderless. We are affinity, reality, communication and understanding which means we are basically love. 💘
Whatever it is you're smoking, I want me some of that sh*t .............

@@HomeStudioBasics punches harder less shrill highs
