Rodan was always one of my favorite Kaiju growing up. I was so happy to see him get this kind of treatment and characterization. Not only that but he actually survives the movie too!
This is one of best sequences in the movie to me. Rodan's reveal, the damage, the chase. Best movie of the series so far. Glad this universe is getting more developed.
It’s awesome and all but I like the background music with this Rodan scene though. But all of the screeches and purs from Rodan is awesome I really both love his design and love his sound design in the Monsterverse.
Agreed, Rodan's theme is my favorite music from this movie (at least not counting the Akira Ifukube composed tracks) but getting to hear his sounds clearer is really nice.
0:38 love how without the background music, you watch rodan emerge from the volcano with overall complete silence, and then rodan’s loud, ear splitting roar cuts that silence
I think the fact that his blood is akin to lava and the embers escaping the back of his wings have something to do with his increased speed. Bro literally caught an entire city in the underdraft of his wings
I thought it was hilarious that they thought conventional missiles would stop it after seeing it emerge from a volcano with lava dripping off of it like water. 😂
@@mousahajtass9667 What would happen if you dropped a water balloon on lava? It'd have to be a VERY LARGE water balloon full of A LOT of water, perhaps hundreds of thousands or millions of gallons. 🤷🏻♂️
As much as i like Rodan's theme, seeing this play out in silence really does hit so much better. Like the tension in everyone's voice is so much more magnified and the centerpiece of the whole scene, Rodan himself, shines wonderfully with all the sounds he makes.
The music grounded this scene, and kept reminding you that you’re watching a special effects extravaganza ... but without music, it’s just plain terrifying. It was like seeing the scene for the first time.
This was an amazing sequence. I seriously don't know what those people were waiting to run for, when the top explodes from a volcano, BEST case scenario is molten lava, incinerating ash and/or falling chunks of mountainside lol.
Rodean was definitely an underapreciated character in the movie, but I remember having my jaw on the floor everytime giddorah apeared. Just the way they capture his size by NEVER showing him fully for the first scenes, like, he's so massive he doesn't fit in the screen. An amazing movie with amazing effects
There is just something so unsettling yet awesome about the shot of Rodan’s shadow passing over the city in complete silence, followed by that shockwave in his wake. Just gives me chills.
Rodan's a fighter for sure and can match up against anyone, except Godzilla, of course. If Godzilla catches him dead on with his atomic blast, it's over for our boy Rodan. But, he may be too fast to get hit point blank by Godzilla. He took a major shot from both Ghidorah and Mothra and survived.
Rodans entrance is by far the most compelling and formidable out of all the Creatures from this storyline or any storyline for that matter. Without the addition of sound his opening scene is actually made more spine tingling and chilling when you see this massive, Almost diabolical looking flying beast emerge from a VOLCANO 🌋 after a lengthy period. Let's absorb that for one moment. A VOLCANO 🌋. Just off of the basis of that alone you are given some insight as to just how menacing and powerful this creature truly is. The sound affects when the enclosement bursts open and this humongous claw reaches out followed by this living dragon awashed in lava, is a masterpiece in special affects and it comes across VERY real. Which is what makes this authentically terrifying. His combat ability and maneuvers are obviously elite status and his skill levels are undoubtedly refined from previous battles with other like creatures. Which brings me to my next observation. Rodan DESERVED BETTER than what was done with him here. He is a terror to deal with one on one for ANY rival because of the heat levels that exude from his structure due to his time living in that volcanic tub. Just off of that alone He should have been MORE than a match for Ghidorah if not a 50/50 rival who could give as Good as he gets. His speed, maneuverability and tactical mindset in a more balanced representation of him, would have in my view been a HARD fight for Ghidorah three heads or not. Rodan had several routes to Ghidorah he could have taken as opposed to this watering down of his abilities where he amateurishly goes directly into Ghidorahs range giving Ghidorah too much time to adapt and counter. His versatility in dealing with The Jet fighters is totally written off once he encounters Ghidorah, something I found to be totally unacceptable. Rodan leveled an entire city just by the sheer strength of his flight force and he quickly countered the strategy of the fighter jets after sizing them up. Then suddenly he becomes a one trick pony when Ghidorah appears?? He deserved better after that epic entrance. Much better.
I really liked that they included how much wind the flap of a flying animal that big would make especially a fire one, it'd basically light everything up in a fiery hurricane
I honestly don't care if people despise how Rodan's sound design doesn't sample the original. This is amazing! If anything, The gargantuan lava bird sounds more Avian and realistic
I love how the people just stare at him and then run after he growls. Like what where they expecting? For him to shoot out the volcano and say, "Howdy partners."
I still remember the IMAX trailer before watching Avengers Endgame, the entire theater shook from the monsters. Hope Godzilla vs Kong does something like that(Don’t reveal alot) before TENET in IMAX.
@@imstoopid4797 Of course, this totally ignores the fact that in the original movie, they killed rodan by triggering the volcano causing him to be burned alive by molten lava

BLU Pyro so basically the Italy of the legendary series
That is a great comparsion. As a Starscream super fan, I am disappointed I never noticed it. Kudos.
That's EXACTLY the vibe I got from him in the theater. I thought jeeze he is just like Starscream, all subservient when the boss is watching him, but OH will he take the shot if he thinks he can go for the top spot... and if the big boss has his back to him.
Rodan was always one of my favorite Kaiju growing up. I was so happy to see him get this kind of treatment and characterization. Not only that but he actually survives the movie too!

He was like " Hehehe ... Hey, How about a firework show? You guys are the fireworks though "
This is one of best sequences in the movie to me. Rodan's reveal, the damage, the chase. Best movie of the series so far. Glad this universe is getting more developed.
I absolutely love how they managed to capture the scale of the monsters in this movie.
It very impressive i agree
It’s awesome and all but I like the background music with this Rodan scene though. But all of the screeches and purs from Rodan is awesome I really both love his design and love his sound design in the Monsterverse.
Agreed, Rodan's theme is my favorite music from this movie (at least not counting the Akira Ifukube composed tracks) but getting to hear his sounds clearer is really nice.
I think the sound design is the best part of the monsteverse, so crisp
Oh of course. This scene improves a lot with the score. But an alternative can be to put some more ambient sound throughout the clip.

Rodan: "Heh, not bad kiddo. Now watch this"

Rodan is easily the most dangerous Kaiju after Ghidorah, for the simple fact he could destroy an entire city within seconds just by flying over it
As much as I love Ghidorah....Rodan had the best entrance. That scream when he woke up.... priceless.
I loved Ghidorah's entrance, too
Just imagine if Rodan was real, and the sheer absurdity of how large and how FAST it is! Literally outpacing fighter jets.
It wouldnt probably outpace jets considering his method of flying is just wings
Illogical something that huge would never outpace a jet
I think the fact that his blood is akin to lava and the embers escaping the back of his wings have something to do with his increased speed. Bro literally caught an entire city in the underdraft of his wings

Glad Rodan lived through everything.
2:28 “copy start the clock” gave me chills😁
This was an amazing sequence. I seriously don't know what those people were waiting to run for, when the top explodes from a volcano, BEST case scenario is molten lava, incinerating ash and/or falling chunks of mountainside lol.

Curiousity gets the best of people.
To be fair if I'm this awestruck by the movie I'd be stunned fking stupid in real life too.
i think its a movie
Rodan actually turns out to be territorial as the volcano he rests in is actually his nest, shown when he defended his resting place from fighter jets
The best monsterverse scene in history. The camera, the sound effect, the times, simply perfect!
0:43-0:50 is just amazing. Nothing but the sounds of rocks crumbling and lava spewing, and then that loud and proud screech.
Rodan's so smart. He use some special combo and very effective. That wing clap and spinning is so incredible
No background music gives you the sense of realism that makes the scenes more terrifying
