I found that twisting and holding a small strand of curls really showed which hairs were damaged further up the hair shaft. I found it easier and it made a huge difference!

I have been doing this for months already! Thanks for the video about it!! I started doing it because I, like you said, have trust issues when it comes to getting my hair trimmed so I started just cutting off the ends every other week or whenever I feel it's needed. I had no idea it was a real thing.

You are an angel for posting this! I've found one hairdresser who will actually just do a dusting but I can't travel to see her right now because of covid and I have severe trust issues after spending years going out my hair. I got a cut by someone else in November and they took off way more than I wanted so I'm planning on just doing my own hair until I can see my regular hairdresser again.

I agree with this video 100%, I was never able to grow my hair past shoulder length when I was in Middle School because I straighten my hair everyday because it was ugly and frizzy and I let sooo many split ends accumulate.
Once I started my first year in high school I chopped off all my hair and stop straightening it except for special occasions if I needed to and from there I started doing dustings instead of trims and it really has made a world of a difference.
In the first two years of dusting my ends instead of having them trimmed I was able to grow my hair from shoulder length all the way down to my butt in a span of two years which is a pretty good rate but thankfully dusting the ends really do help.
I only cut my hair once a year and usually it's about 2 to 3 in and the split ends are very minimal mostly just from weather damage since I am constantly taking care of my hair and giving it everything it needs.
However I always pay attention to my ends and make sure that if they really do need to be trimmed then I will do that instead of dusting but I believe that dusting my hands have really helped in length retention 💞✨🙏

Thank you for your videos. My sisters-in-law, bless their hearts, just cannot work with my curly hair. I even asked one of them, who usually wants to use me a a guinea pig for styles, if she'd try dry cutting my hair and she said no. So now I do it myself and I watch your videos, and other curly gals on YT also and my hair is SO much better

You can S&D or Seek and Destroy only your split ends. Make sure you're in good lighting and have good hair cutting scissors. You snip a little above every split end that you find. You will not lose length this way. You can also take sections of hair and twist them to make split ends pop out more. That way you can get the split ends that are throughout your hair bc not all split ends are only at the bottom of your hair. This is a good method for if you're trying to grow your hair, bc really the one of the main ways to grow your hair is to NOT CUT IT! You can do this method as often as you feel like, but don't become obsessive with it bc it can mess with how your hemline looks if you do it obsessively. Happy growing!

I love my hair stylist but I'm not convinced she knows these do's and don'ts for curly hair. For instance: she used thinning shears on my hair last time which I have since read is a no no for curly hair? love all your videos and your energy btw! Thank you for all you do!

This is my saviour because if I go to hair salon they cut half of my hair 😅. I don't have any specific hair cut shape. And there's no curly hair salons here. So this much is fine for me. I just want healthy long hair

My situation is similar. My stylist won't touch anything other than my length as I have some badly cut layering plus some newer growth. However, I would not have the patience for this but I pre poo with oil and I then, as often as I can, take a good feel of my hair and carefully, from just above where I can feel a split that has moved up the hair shaft I trim that strand. I don't get terribly many splits but doing as I do, at least I feel like the shorter parts of my hair get something in the way of a trim!

Can the seesters do a battle of the one step Blow dryer brushes? Like the Revlon one step styler VS. The Hot Tools or L’ange one? I think that’d be helpful and fun.

How about the really short strands with split ends that are on my crown and top of my head? I get the urge to trim them, should I? Thanks!!

Hello. I have just been introduced to you. Great videos. I was going to purchase the scissors that you recommended but see they are for right handed . Do you have a recommendation for left handed ? Thank you

Hello Mell! For a future video, can you give some advice to mums who have to take care of their kids' hair? Especially ESPECIALLY what to do for knots in you daughter's long, wavy-curly hair. Thanks !
PS thanks to you, I am now seeing my curls improve! Love the Denham brush. Love the videos.

Omg YES PLEASE @Mel! My daughters hair is very fine and curly, it’s so long and beautiful but helping her maintain it is torture (she’s only 9). It gets these 2”-3” vertical knots that look like I teased it! She’s Caucasian and I’ve tried every leave-in conditioner, mask, detangler I can find, even including products made for African American/mixed folks. Thank you @Belinda for posting!

Thank you. My stylist sister swore that she knows how to take care of my curls and when I finally went to the hairdresser instead of her, they were appalled at all the splits lol. Now I know that as a curly-head, I need to trim those stupid lil ends!! I don’t wanna go to the hairdresser every time… they’ll cut too much off and it’s expensive!

Gonna do the ponytail first then I'll try this. Still can't go to hair salons.
