    Thank you for this video. Convinced me to purchase this product as well as the vacuum which I didn’t even know they made.

      You're welcome! One important tip I forgot to include: wear a face mask!!! Without knowing you will inhale all the hairs and cough your lungs out the next morning.

    Can you use elmers glue instead of the expensive static tac from woodland scenics?

    • @17designs
      @17designs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately Elmer's is not sticky enough to keep the grass standing 😕

    Thanks for the video. Is it mandatory that you put the screw back in for it to function?

      Id guess no if it twists and locks anyway but it probably keeps the end on more securely whilst you shake the device.

    Great tutorial thanks. But I must be doing something wrong. I bought the Woodland scenics static king and its useless for grass over 2mm I have read the instructions and watched your video but only seems to work on 2mm when I use 4mm and above especially 12mm 70% of the grass is flat I have been using Woodland scenics tac and grass and used the conductor cable and anchor next to where I am applying grass but still no joy. Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

      Hi Amateur Caravaner, the grounding doesn't sound like it is working. It must be stuck in the area you are planning to glue. Also, try your best to keep the static king 1 inch or closer from the grass. I've been away from the hobby for over a year as I am moving. Let me know if my suggestions help. Cheers

      I wish I had more areas to apply static grass to. It was so much fun to do and the results were far better than I expected. I highly recommend this effect for other modellers.

    Does this perform better with 12v power supply bc I was not impressed this evening when I tried it with 9v battery. My grass just fell out and only a few stood up.

    • @17designs
      @17designs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Keith, I only use the 12v power supply. Check that you are properly grounded. The grass shouldn't fall out. When working properly it requires shaking of the Static King for the grass to drop.

    So, I'm working on a diorama for a model kit at a weird 1/20 scale. I accidentally ordered 2mm static grass and realized that's way too short for this. Do you think 4mm would be better? Its a model of a car parked off on the side of a country road with..mm...somewhat unkempt grass. Not super wild, but not like the 2mm which makes it look like someone just mowed.

    • @17designs
      @17designs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, most definitely. You can also mix the two heights for interest.

      @@17designs Thanks. Its been a bit tough to figure out since my use case is quite a bit different than the people building for railroads or tabletop games, but darned if it doesn't look amazing. I can't paint or draw worth a darn, but this feels like an outlet where I can at least come close to accomplishing what I can picture in my head.

      @@TotemoGaijin That's great to hear! I also can't draw but somehow I mastered using a sponge brush to dab watered down pigments and apply washes. Enjoy the Static King. It's a lot of fun.

      Got it in today...with 2mm its kinda hard to tell if it made a difference, lol. I guess I just have to wait on the 4mm to arrive now.

      According to Rickie at Woodland Scenics, the screw is just to insure the cap doesn't come off during use. It has no effect on static.
