Rank is a numerical label. Training does not change that number. No amount of training will change your rank. The guildmaster was referring to improving coordination between members and acclimating people to being in dungeons, increasing their future survival rate.
I feel like it's one of those shows that will be better if you binge it instead of watching it weekly, as the beginning of the story is quite slow.

Yes,but that's the best part. It's not slow,it's just well paced. Like,anime aside,the webtoon hits u with the balance of good pacing and raw buildup moving forward with each chapter. And,this is something i can say for sure cuz 2 days ago i watched the 1st 2 eps and i was like "woh,this feels like a rising wave" and couldn't wait for tje 3rd ep so i started reading the webtoon,and right now i'm at chapter 81 lol. The anime came off as a trigger for me. It's just that good.

I love how they're showing how everything is interlaced. That purple hair guy is in an upcoming arc. The gate outside, the B rank healer, also, that chick that went to save him. I absolutely love how everything is well interwoven. The ones that know, they know . Also, to explain, think of it as a glass, it was made to hold a certain capacity. No matter how you shape the container, it still holds the same amount. It can be sturdier but in terms of reawakening, it's rare but you never go down. Only up.

About the reawakening, in the manhwa it said they'd level up about two ranks, so from D-rank to B-rank or C to A for example
no they didnt.. there is no fixation or limit. those two were just examples of people that did undergo reawakening

Rank isn't based on Combat Power.
Rank is based purely on how much Energy a Hunter has. And that is fixed at Awakening for almost all Hunters.
It's like an E Rank has a Slingshot while a C Rank maybe has a Hunting Rifle, and an A Rank has an Anti-Material Gun. Yeah, sure, you can train your aim, your reload speed, your positioning, coordination, teamwork, etc. But if you're going up against a Tank, you *need* the guy with the Anti-Tank level weaponry. All the Slingshot or Handgun skill in the world isn't going to do much against a Tank; not because you aren't skilled enough, but _because it's a goddamn Tank._
Fun fact: the studio thats making solo leveling is also the one that made sword art online

Neel, if I remember correctly the difference between ranks is about 10 times. That means it would take roughly 10 rank C hunters to equal a single lower class rank B hunter's combat ability, the same goes for the other ranks aside from S due to there being massive differences in the S rank that far exceed the differences in other ranks.
And then there's National rank, and their orders influence the world
I'll say this about rank S. The people in rank S are there because they can't quantafie the power level of S ranks so the lowest S ranks and the highest A rank are pretty close in power but if you match the strongest S rank vs the weakest well our MC has a bigger chance at defeating a A-rank

Edit: To answer your question; the difference between ranks are magnitudes in comparison to the other. E compared to D is like a skinny dude being compared to a world-class strongman. Same for D and C, and so on.
A and S are different. Short explanation, Rank-A hunters have power levels that can still be measured with a high-rank mana detector (like the one they brought for Sung in the hospital).
Idk about the light novel but in manhwa it was a different guy here they changed it with kang in anime

Okay, here’s how I understand the situation between Rank and training. Rank is the amount of magical power you have. Magic seems to provide an enhancement to physical strength or magic, so the more you have, the faster and stronger your body will be and stronger your spells are. Training is improving your skills. Learning how to fight and apply your abilities in the most efficient way. Training doesn’t increase your power, it just optimizes it. A good example would be taking two people with the exact same physical capabilities and handing each of them a sword. Now imagine one has trained their entire life as a swordsman and the other has never even held a sword before. They would obviously have vastly different levels of lethality. That is the purpose of training even if it doesn’t raise your Rank.
A hunter of rank E cannot move to rank D, rank D will not move to C, and so on, no matter how hard he trains. This is physically impossible. It's like it's impossible to be older than your real age. Jinwoo is the only one who has gained the ability to raise his level, in isolation from the rank system. I won't spoil it, but when he gets strong enough, everyone will be stunned.

@@hmoobv4j154 its the same on what the manhwa was. The manhwa removed some of the parts from the novel. However, they are still the same the novel only has much more and more detail.
A small explanation if you enjoy world building. Ranks are the measurement of the amount of mana in the body. That's why rank can never change. The amount of mana a body can have is constant. You can do training to make urself more efficient in utilising that mana, but the amount will never change. Amount of mana determines the rank. Skill is not considered in rank evaluation. So no matter how much you train, your rank will never go up. Imagine you and a trained army personnel are both given the same guns. Obviously the army personnel will be better at using it. But you're both listed as "Owner of X gun". This "Owner of X gun" is the rank, so same for both. But the skill and efficiency in battle is different. So, this is the concept of ranks in the world of Solo Leveling. Same for re awakening. Imagine the gun given to everyone by a certain organisation never changes. Sometimes, the organisation just decides in random to upgrade someone's gun. SO, rank increased! Even if that person is shit at using that upgraded gun, he would still be ranked above someone with a basic gun even if he is better at combat efficiency, i.e killing enemies.

If you train, you can improve your skills, but not your power. You just get better at using it. Same with battle IQ.
About the Ranking System, it is the amount of Energy on their body, the more Energy you had the more resistance from the Gate and power against it's creatures. (S Ranks and National Levels had more Energy because- spoiler). The same way how they measure the Gate Ranks.
It was like Radiation where some people exposed to it will sleep forever. Which is why Only the Hunters should Enter these Gates. The Miners are also Rankers. This was explained further from the Novel and Manhwa but I guess it is fine to tell about it.
I love how his trauma will be his driving force to move forward and the system could go such length just to make him stronger.
I won't spoil why, what, and where is the system tho.

I read the manhwa and these 12 episodes are a bit short for such a well-written story. I hope they at least show the fight against the elves by the end of the season.

If they had a consistent pacing, they could end it off at chapter 55 (End of red-gate arc)
The first two episodes included 11 chapters, both of them including 5.5 chapters each. The third episode took a MASSIVE step down and included only 2 chapters and part of chapter 13
Unlike the manhwa, which focuses on Jinwoo for the majority of it, the anime divides the attention to the side characters. In this episode, we weren’t originally shown Joohee, Cha hae in and Choi Jong In. We also weren’t shown Jinwoo fighting goblins. If these scenes weren’t included, they could’ve adapted 2 or more chapters into this episode.
If they keep up this pacing, not only are they gonna not reach red-gate arc by the end of cour 1 of this season, they aren’t gonna be able to finish Jeju island arc in the entire season.
Imagine if season 1 didn’t have 24 episodes and we had to wait til season 3 for Jeju island, I really hope they fix the pacing issues.

So far the pacing has been good and they are adding scenes from LN cause they are adapting from that and not from the manhwa and I love those extra scenes cause you can see how everything is connected and foreshadowed
@@bxd16 I was specifically talking about the pacing in the third episode. 2 chapters for one episode isn’t considered good pacing. And I noted that they won’t reach Jeju island by season 1 **IF** they continue pacing it like this.
The overall pacing of the anime is good, only episode 3

The Jeju island scene from the first episode was also not present in the light novel. (Chapter 1)
Go Gunhee giving advice to hunters in episode 1 was also not present in the light novel (Chapter 2)
The nurses searching for Jinwoo when he went to the desert was also not in the light novel (Chapter 10)
Baek Yoonho training in episode 5 was also not present in the light novel (Chapter 18)
I didn’t check for any other scenes. You can confirm it yourself if you want. I personally use novelfull to read it. The title is “only I level up”
he can deffintly close the gap since his system is a cheat in the normal rank setup since his power gets messured by his stat points instead of real physique and mental strength.
so the reason the device didnt pick anything up is because he didnt spend a single skill point. the more points he spends the higher his power scale becomes just like in a videogame.
his power scales and is a average of the spend skill points and his gear combined so if he spends enough points and get some decent armour or weapon he might already be a rank up. thats how powerfull that system is, its basicly a main character creator XD

The ranks are based on MAGIC LEVELS. Magic levels pretty much gives you a boost to your strength, senses, mana pool and stuff like that. You become better at everything if youre compared to a human being without magic levels.
If you get an E rank for example, you cant go up a rank (meaning, you cant increase your magic levels). However, you can still train and get better in how you fight (if youre a swordsman for example, you can kendo or something).
You can be a high ranker like B but if you dont know hiw to fight, youll die. With this, it may be possible but typically, for example, a rank D cannot defeat a C ranked since the magic levels are usually enough to determine that.
You maybe have a chance if you know how to fight but it’s still really low because the chances are, the higher rank also knows how to fight and play their advantage. Your roles plays a factor too. If youre a C rank magician, your physical capabilities could of a D rank’s but magic from a C rank can probably kill a D rank (since you aint gonna be that fast to dodge for example)
Also, Im pretty sure that even though there can only a difference in one rank, the gap can still be pretty big in terms of magic levels
a rank b or c or d can never ever upgrade their rank , the rank wont change because its based on magic power not what missions r u able to do , basically if u r e u will be forever E unless u experience what they said in this second awakening which is very rare and will make u rank jump massively its that good , there is a second way but it will be revealed in second season if anyone wants to know imma write it in spoilers down :
SPOILERS READ AT UR OWN RISK : in second season when sung goes to america the government will try to recruit him ofc sung loves his country so he wont accept it but like other american strong hunters who america recruited from other countries they do the same thing to sung which is take him to one of their hunters and that hunter has only one ability which is to double the magic power of anyone she wants ofc it has its limits i dont remember them but yeah something like she can only use it once every a long time or something. Thats the second way
Regards to your question about gate showing up in the middle of forest - they developed technology that senses mana and gates emit mana which is used to locate them and estimate their rank. At least thats how it is in most of the dungeon type modern power fantasies, probs same for SL - i read novel years ago so forgot details, did not bother reading manhwa
Edit: as for training, rank is determined by one's ability and mana quantity iirc. Some martial artsists can bridge gap between maybe D and C rank, at most between C and B as A and S rank are in a level of its own. Even if they bridge gap its only by one minor rank

To answer your question. Yes it is possible with talent and skill. However, you hunter ability rank and power will remain the same.
For example: you can train in swordsman ship and be as talented as an S-rank swordsman. But stuck as a C-rang mage.
Regarding that question, there is nothing that will change your ranking. It is set in stone no matter what the rank is. Unless other special circumstance happen.

Everything will be explained. But without spoiling anything what he went through was not a second Awakening. At the moment in time in the hospital he is still the lowest e rank level. If he went through a second Awakening he would be at a higher level but since he was at the same level as he has always been it was not a second Awakening. What he is experiencing is something completely different that maybe no one has experience before

Its not going to directly explain it but the gear you have can close the gap that training cant, an upper a rank could match a lower s rank if they had good equipment and the s rank didnt, theres also skill compatability and “classes” like in games, like a stronger assassin is gonna struggle against a lower tank etc (in terms of human v human anyways)

8:04 yes it's possible, because the ranking system only takes in consideration the amount of mana or power that you have, so someone could awaken a power thats rank d, so technically it's weaker than the power someone in rank c has, but the one in rank d whit physical training, intelligence and experience could beat someone in rank c, the problem is the higher the rank gets the bigger the difference becomes

I'm fairly certain a person cannot train sufficiently enough to surpass a higher rank. I believe what they are saying is that they will become stronger within their rank.
This doesn't apply to Jinwoo, obviously.
To your question, No, not really. A rank D could not train to be just as good as a Rank C. The only time that "could" happen is if the Rank C is completely new and doesn't know what is happening around him, like "watch your back" type of stuff. But I believe the training they are referring to is purely situational awareness. Like you and me work the same job. How much you can lift is fixed (so I'll always be stronger) but you have been on the job more so you know what you are supposed to do without direction. I would eventually reach that point in knowledge, but I'll have the greater strength. (For that example, knowledge of how to lift or move something doesn't apply, I'm talking purely what needs to be done on the job).
So the things they want to teach are battle tactics, and such, not physical training. If you look at Jinwoo's stats (later in the episode) Its Strength, Agility, Vitality, Perception and intelligence (I think). You can think of those being the stats that cannot change for people and that S,A,B.... Ranks have fixed numbers and each tier is likely higher than each lower tier in all aspects.

Hunters wont be stronger or obtain more power, however! Imagine a swordsman practicing the swing and reactions, learn to stay in formation like a soldier. Those are things that can improve and increase greatly the survival of the hunters

I guess a lot of people didn't understand the premise of rank system in this show because we're already familiar with other show's rank system. Basically solo leveling rank system is about your magic level. As stated you can't increase your magic level hence the premise that nobody can escape their given rank in contrast from other shows that you can rank up by doing quest, contribution or level up. This show just remove that rank up system in exception of reawakening. In other words rank=magic power and it doesn't properly reflect their combat abilities/ power levels but logically more magic= more shit to throw so it's also true. 😂 However you may power up using equipments, tactical formation and experience in combat. The question is now does powering up using these method could bring them close to upper rank? The answer is....

Manwha reader? If you aren't then it's fine if you feel this way bc ik alot of non readers expect alot and want more but from a reader pov this is really good pacing w no rushing w the story while including thing from the light novel that wasn't in the webcomic
man y'all so called "manhwa readers" are so spoiled ffs, you complain about ToG & GoH having too many chapters to adapt for only 1 episode but when solo leveling do the opposite and fixes that problem y'all still complaining? smh...
@adamant2239 I'd say this episode was good cuz we know it's only to get better from here and seeing that the system really does help Jinwoo grow bc in the 1st ep he couldn't even stab thru a goblin. This is the starting point showing that he will just get stronger and stronger. I really do hate cliffhangers tho but imagine being a reader from the start of the release of the webcomic waiting one chapter every week

Doesn’t matter if you’re a from a reader or anime perspective don’t complain so much enjoy the show be happy that we have it they are doing so much. The show is amazing
animation is clean 🫡 but some part in last fight scene jin woo look weird(Please Don't Make Any mistake . But I like 3rd episode. 7.9/10. I wish I could give 8.5 but There were some scene could do better @mehadihassan804
