    The draught in Sudan is not the cause of Nile. The Nile is still running while they have draught.

    Fact check
    1. The dam has already been built.
    2.The dam doesn’t stop the water flow since it’s getting filled-up in phases that will take 3 to 6 years depending on rain fall. This is the unselfish Ethiopia’s understandings of its neighbors’ need for water.
    3. Ethiopia was never been a part of any colonial era treaty that guaranteed Egypt and Sudan all the water flow because Ethiopia has never been colonized. That treaty is null.
    4. Any attack by Egypt is no one’s fault. That responsibility is solely on Egypt. They will be the one who will have to live with the consequences that will follow if they miscalculate this.
    5. The blue Nile from Ethiopia which accounts for over 80% of the Nile River DOES NOT start at the dam. If Ethiopia wants to stop the water, the dam is not the way to do it. Given the 99.9999% unlikely scenario that Egypt attacks the dam, Ethiopia will be in their FULL right to start diverting the number of small tributary rivers in the highlands which will starve the Blue Nile and significantly reduces the total amount of of water to the Nile River itself. Egypt knows that. Since they dug themselves in, they will have no choice to go to a full blown out war with Ethiopia. That will be the end of Egypt as we know it because:
    -Topography
    The highlands of Ethiopia ranges between 8000 to 15000 ft elevation. Just getting there by itself with all your supplies is not just for Egypt it will be a daunting task for a more modernized military nation like USA.
    - Fighting force
    Ethiopians have internal conflicts since its inception, but one thing that unite them is foreign wars. Ethiopia can enlist millions of troops at a moment of notice specially since they have a very large percentage of young population. Roughly 60% of 110 million are between 15 to 30 years old.
    -Diplomacy
    Egypt used to be more appealing to the west. That’s why they were instrumental in blocking loans for the dam from IMF or world bank when Ethiopians asked for a loan. That’s why Ethiopia funded the project by herself. Worked for Ethiopia unintentionally. That showed other African, Asian and Latin American countries what can be done without this monopoly institutions of the west. Giving Ethiopia the upper hand in diplomacy to the majority of nations. Ethiopia is a head quarter to many international institutions only next to New York. Ethiopia’s geopolitical appeal to the rest of Subsaharan African countries is significant.
    -Internal conflicts
    Like I mentioned above, Ethiopians aren’t new to internal conflicts. But, Egypt has a lot to lose if that happens. Going on a full blown out war will make them weak internally opening up other issues they will not control. Turkey, Libya, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Hizbollah, ISIS, Muslim brotherhood, etc... it will destabilize them to the point they will not recover.
    -Aswan dam
    This is a very remote unlikely scenario, but what if Ethiopia has the ability to strike the Aswan dam? What will happen if it collapsed? That, I will leave it to anyone to do a research. That possibility will remain no matter what. That by itself scares Egypt a $hit out of them.
    At the end, my money is on Egypt to agree on Ethiopia’s term. That’s why Ethiopia has not signed any deal. Egypt has to understand that Ethiopia can not guarantee anything like those colonizers. This is what happens when you are dealing with a free country that has known war for its entire existence.

    • @TsegayeZenebe
      @TsegayeZenebe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So it is true that Ethiopia is going for bieng Africas super power. After putting this all together. I say Ethiopia should not sign any deal who is with me.

    • @tnasr3254
      @tnasr3254 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dam is not completed yet thus extending the filling period beyond 2 or 3 years is mandatory. Furthermore you may or may not already know that electricity will start being produced this year w/ 2 of 16 turbines w/ only 5 BCM of water in the reservoir. It should also be noted that filling the dam very close to max capacity would be irrational based on some expert opinions. With regards to treaties it should be noted that in 1902 under no compulsion Ethiopia voluntarily signed a treaty pledging not to construct any works on the Nile, look it up. This video like others makes no mention of the 2015 Declaration of Principles which makes not reference to any historical treaty, which all 3 countries signed, and which makes no reference to other historical treaties. I don't know why.

    • @TsegayeZenebe
      @TsegayeZenebe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tnasr3254 around 80% construction is already done and there is no such 1902 treaty exist as far as Ethiopia concerned

    • @JohnWick-su2nh
      @JohnWick-su2nh 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      T Nasr factored in the total project including the secondary reservoir and installations of all turbines, the dam as of today is 80% completed. With the two turbines, you are correct they will start generating power soon with the initial 5BCM of water. Total once filled will be 74BCM. As far as the 1902 treaty with GB which by the way Egypt was not even a part of it, there is no where that says Ethiopia can not use the water. The fact is that now Ethiopians do not recognize any agreement that was done by any colonialists. They have no negotiating power on behalf of any country because they shouldn’t have been there to begin with. But Ethiopians can’t completely stop the water flow at all either. But, we already know that even the international law prohibits any nation from doing that. In case of war and specially if you are the one who started the attack (aggressor), good luck convincing anyone. Because, Ethiopia will start diverting as soon as they get attacked. Of course, that’s not going to happen because Egypt will have a lot to lose in that scenario. So, the win win solution is Egypt will have to accept that Ethiopia can not guarantee any level of water and Ethiopia need to accept that they can not stop the flow the water using the GERD dam. My guess is the dam will be filled in increments depending on rain fall. After that, the water will continue to flow like it did for millennia. All this nonsense will be in the back burner.

Just because we have not developed this river before does not mean it is not ours. I don't think it's healthy to say don't touch the Nile that flows from your house. Thank you so much David for bringing again this case to the table. I think the only way out to this centuries-old dispute is if the three countries have a joint investment in the water. The western countries rather than mediation they would be helpful in developing joint projects. For example, Ethiopia has huge water...Sudan has a huge agricultural land and irrigation facility... Egypt has huge access to the agricultural products market. So if the world bank, the western countries, and others bring in the money we can have a huge and substantial product from the river which Bytheway will benefit the western countries. Otherwise, this Nile talk will enter with out agreement into the next century.

    The GERD is NOT "blocking" the blue Nile or starving downstream countries of needed water. They are slowly filling their reservoir which in the future will ensure adequate flow in lean rainfall years. It seems that it is actually a benefit to downstream countries for there to be billions of meters of water held in reserve upstream and it is definitely a benefit for the region for there to be a new, dependable source of electricity generation Unless Ethiopia were to diminish the average flow of the river for extended periods there is no real basis for conflict.

    Agreements can only be made when each party has strong incentives to reach an agreement. When one party has all the power and little incentive to make any concessions then a final agreement will more likely than not be elusive. At the end of the day unless there is a severe drop in rainfall in Ethiopia it may not matter, serious harm probably won't hit Sudan and Egypt unless rainfall drops meaningfully in the next 5 years.

    This is one of wrong propaganda regarding Nile river. Egypt does this intentionally. As Egypt and her government indirectly explain many times not because of the dam. It is a hidden envy that speculates Ethiopia is going to be a leader country on the east. This is not right on Ethiopians side. Why? As most of us know the dam is on whatever name it may be called an electricity dam. The water from the river hits the turbine and goes back to its natural course. That’s it. As mentioned earlier because of hidden envy and jealousy Egypt is revolving around the world and distributing her lie tale. The surprising thing is many people like Donald Trump doesn’t know what a electricity dam and water flow is. The reason is not because of water shortages. The reason is one and one. Egypt doesn’t want her neighbors growth and development. Same thing she is doing on Libya. For the assassination of Muhammed Gadaf Egypt’s role is enormous. Same way she doesn’t want growth of Chad. Egypt really worried for lack of water? BIG NO!!!! Let’s see her water options. 1) The Red Sea water option. 2) The Mediterranean water option. 3) The Nubia Sand System Aquifer water option. Egypt doesn’t want to utilize these all water options if really threatened by water shortage.
    Let’s come back and see the electricity dam that will be constructed. 1) The water amount will not be reduced. 2) Less amount of water will be wasted by evaporation than previous years. 3) Ethiopians will have electric power. By the way more than 68% of Ethiopian population doesn’t have electric power. Imagine how the serious problem will be solved building the dam. Egypt is happy to keep all these amount Ethiopians to remain in darkness. Not only darkness the international aimed Global development goals will not be achieved without electricity. International development organizations let be aware of this problem and comparing with false tales of Egypt there for centuries. Ethiopians want to see their millennium development goals achieved. I want to notify president Trump that neocolonialism is unknown history in Ethiopia including any colonial thought.

    @0:48'' when you start it that way with a biased and uninformed scholar you definitely understand the aim of the documentary. No water has been siphoned the proof is the flooding in neighbouring Sundan.
    A hydrodam has never in the history of energy generation retained excessive water as this will leave the dam after energy production.
    But using the dam or any other dam for irrigation is also the right of Ethiopia as no country including Turkey has built a dam with the approval of other countries.
    In fact, Ethiopia is a very respectful country towards its neighbours reason for which it has invited down stream countries for win-win use of the river for which it contributes 86%.
    Ethiopia will produce its energy and should use irrigation instead of relying on rain-fed agriculture. Its sole responsibility is to use its water without significantly affecting down stream countries.
    As an international media, please invite unbiased and knowledgeable people for analysis or it will say more about your interest.

    • @tilethio
      @tilethio 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can not understand your argument "Why is Ethiopia doesn't build power station". That is exactly what Ethiopia is doing right now. You can't generate electric power unless you have a day. The grid line you are talking firstly it is useless unless you have a dam that generate power. Secondly the grid is non of Egypt's business. If Egypt is very concerned about water security it should solve its own problem by itself either investing on desalination plants or ground water than buying weapons.

    Why do the 9 upstream countries have no right to any of the water of the nile? Ethiopia should have a right to some portion. The Egyptians are demanding Ethiopia take all the pain. Unfortunately, a bunch of this is Egypt trying to keep Ethiopia from growing economically enough to be a true competitor. From what I've read, this will boost production in Ethiopia from 4,000 MWh to 10,000 MWh. For a country with only 40% of the population with electricity, that seems like a good idea.
    Should the Egyptians have an agreement? Yes, but so far the offers have been one sided trying to hold colonial agreements. Ethiopia needs the level high enough to start making electricity. That means some amount of the 74 cubic kilometers stored upstream is filled. Eventually, hopefully in surplus years, the dam will be filled in order to produce the full electricity.
    It is a question of how fast it is filled. I also wonder, how full is it? If Egypt were to "blow it up", would it be attacking themselves at this point or is the amount of water so low to be irrelevant versus a normal flood year?

      Great! This is one of a well thought comment. In my view what the three countries (Egypt, Ethiopia & Sudan) should negotiate is how to develop the Nile valley jointly for a shared benefit. Ethiopia have a high water potential and this huge electric city, Sudan has abundant fertile irrigable land, Egypt has millenia old irrigation experiences and market outlets. If the western or Eastern countries want to help this cause they can give a loan for this irrigation development and it will be a happy day for the three countries if not East West. The only way out I can see is cooperation. Not military options or helping one others rebells.

    Egypt and Sudanese leaders need to get their heads out of the extreme hot sand and start thinking as post colonial African family! All the three country leaders want the best for their respective countries and people. This is not our fathers and grandfather time or world, war isn't and has never been the answer in fact it's expensive for all and it's old fashion! The Ethiopian leadership from the begging seems to understand this very well and was focused on growing and changing the region! not harming the downstream countries. The Nile has been a gift to all riparian nations it touch and it can be a blessing to all for the next thousands of years if only our African leaders and people change our old fashion colinal planted thinking! Every great team knows how to change and adapt based on the situation like a smart football player. The measure of intelligence is the ability to change! Destroying each others infrastructure or cities will only help others. So we need to change our thinking and grow and change together hand to hand and the bottom line we are all brothers and we can change and grow together! We all know it or not Ethiopia is changing and growing by the grace of God inspite of covid 19, according to world bank, imf and others the Ethiopian econmy is on a fasttrack growth and Ethiopia is not and has never been selfish it wants to take all its neighbors for the ride! If your head is on the old fashion war games and your stuck there we will go the extra way to change your thinking if not by the grace of God we are good at war! Please for reference ask the historical Egyptians, Italians and Koreans.
