not to say mustie isnt a talented guy but i've watched alot of his videos and most of the fixes are simple ones that anyone at home can do. but dont spread the word or he'll be out of work and we wont get anymore great videos :)
Probably not everyone can. Most can't, rather have no idea what they're doing, they're lucky to tie their shoes, if their "smart phone" can't fix the problem they're SOL.
@@vastianocara1792 Most people can't be arsed with the tender loving care required to keep this kind of mechanical equipment in tip top condition. It goes in the "too hard" basket.
You sure like that body hammer don't ya . Got a great find, people staring their spring cleaning, gotta keep your eyes open tis the season. Enjoy watching the finds and fixes. Thanks fur sharing.
I just picked up a 2003 craftsman 9hp 29" from my next door neighbor that had been sitting out behind his house for probably 10 years. I noticed that he was getting rid of some stuff so I offered and he sold. Of course it needed some love, but it is in surprising shape, it even started, and I walked it home under power. As a long time subscriber, I thought "Wonder if Mustie has a vid on this thing." Thanks for having one. 😀
Kindred Spirits! Just sold my wrangler, had a '68 VW window van, same junk snowblower, only a MTD. Now I just have to work on the patience, confidence, and abilities. Learning a lot! Thanks!!!
We need more people like you. Imagine just the sheer amount of crap that wouldn't get thrown out if more people tried to fix things and care about them.
Sweeet !! Dude, personally, I would have grabbed that other little 2 cycle (?)blower as well !! Some are 4 cycle...... I've had those to do my decks and they work GREAT !! Usually takes very little if anything to get those running again. Keep up the good work !! Another one saved from the land fill !! (and money in your pocket) !!
Had one exactly like this.. she finally calved last year. handles broke off , needed muffler and other misc. repairs. was like 25 years old. junked it and got a new blower..enjoyed your video. tks for sharing..
I’m sure this question has been asked before, do you think the original owner watched this video and thought, “ How stupid am I, I gave that thing away and he repaired it in less than a day ?” I’m not a mechanic, I keep people alive for a living, Critical Care ICU but I have learned a great deal of knowledge watching this guy.
Just exactly like mine, except I paid $300 for it. Now giving the motor some love. Also learned how the belly plate is removed. Thanks, that was a great video!
You've made me stop at all the small motors at the side of the road and give them a thought, some have come home just to see if there was a spark of life yet left. Always fun wrenching no matter the outcome.
I never knew people threw away so many large and small pieces of power equipment. Your mechanical knowledge and experience is extremely impressive as is your ability to narrate as if you are talking to a friend. 👏
That's the exact Make/Model color and horsepower of my snowblower. I bought it new in 1998 or 1999. I add a stabilizer to the gas that I use for the snowblower. I keep blower it in the garage when not in use, change the oil every one or two years. Check the spark plug every year, replace it every 2-3 years. Clean it up in the spring. Recent snowstorm about 10 inches of wet snow. 1st time it struggled. I think I have to tighten the auger belt or if not possible replace it this year. Otherwise starts up every time with minimum maintenance. It's a workhorse during Michigan's snow season. 20 years old engine still runs great. My riding lawnmower is close to 40 years old(Simplicity)
Never thought I'd watch snowblower videos over the Holiday break. These are actually helpful when you have to bring back to life machines that came with the house you bought. We have two. Thanks for posting.
I had some snow blowers but never knew that the amazing wheel made the gears go forward and backward ,that wheel was a genius to invent, but now i will know what to look for if i have a problem ,thanks to you, keep on trucking.
I enjoy a beer while I'm watching your episodes and you cant hear me but I'm yelling its the fuel mixture or the chain adjustment,....thank you for your efforts,....cheers
I get all kinds of things free, recently 3 running push mowers, a tiller and zero turn LM and the one I like best - a Yamaha MOTO 4 ATV. All run fine- just little work to clean em up --
Picked me up a roadside mower for free. Cleaned the air cleaner and she runs great. But I would of love to find your find. Good work and thank you for showing us. NO mower Left Behind.
I go the same snowblower - free, wheels wouldn't turn. Pulled pan and the whole bottom was full of nest. Vacuumed it out, cleaned the sprocket of nest. Works! Changed oil, spark plus and gas.
Your going to be in trouble if you ever lose your wire brush.. LOL Trust me, I'm joking, I'm a old retired mechanic that has used fine wires to clean out more jets that only another mechanic would believe. Keep up the videos, I'm pretty sick with cancer these days and can't do very much, but your videos mentally puts me back in my workshop. There isn't much that you do that I haven't done myself at one time or another. I still have a nice 24'X24' workshop with all the trimmings that looks very similar to yours with the welders, air tools, motorcycle lift etc., but I don't get out there much anymore. Keep up the videos, I really enjoy them. Watching certainly isn't doing, but it's better than doing nothing. I miss it like you wouldn't believe.
Denzil Ritchie I’m sure you could find a young buck that would love access to your knowledge and tools. Atleast that’s how I was with my neighbor, it was a great experience and why I’m in college getting an engineering degree.

great job, I have watched a lot of you videos and you are a good mechanic. I am a old vet and I still wake up at 3 and 4 AM, a great way to kill some time. At one time I had a full shop with a lift and all the toys, Kubota tractor, bucket truck, wood splitter and a fleet of small engines ...5 or 6 chain saws all the lawn stuff. But I enjoyed repair and maintaining my fleet. Sold it all and moved to Charleston SC. I remember the great times but living in Charleston having a HOA to take care of all of that type of FUN is not bad. I have a local hangout Charleston boat shop I help the guys do the problem solving. :)
I found a leaf blower on the side of the road, the inspiration i got from watching your video help me to fix it, I just cleaned the carburetor and changed the spark thats it. Thank you!
I was given a 5 24 that is the same style. My grandpa picked and used it a few years after fixing it up. Engine was getting finicky so I threw a predator 212 on it and the thing really rips!
Love you're videos man wish we lived closer cause I'm getting tractors n push mowers etc im nothing like you doing things but planning on fixing getting whatever to run and resell for money sorta like a self employed job
About what year is this. I have a lawn mower painted the same color that I brought at a garage sale. All it needed was a o ring and a new gasket. I got it for $30.00. You always find good stuff. It look like there is alot of play between the wheels and chain. I like when you put a round plug in a square hole. Sounds better now. Do you ever use any Sea Foam, it fixed my carb right up. It was lopping. Did you remove the wheels from the axel and grease those shafts, I know some times the wheels get stuck on the axel shaft. Todays date 02/15/2021. Good Job.
I have this exact same blower and also got it for free. I've only done a tiny bit of maintenance to it, and it's been working pretty well for a couple years. Your video gives me some ideas on dome maintenance I can do on it this spring. Nice work, and thank you!
Good video,...nice all over, Thanks and I would have lubed the chain and let it sit for few hours and then I'd have tried to work out the kinks in drive chain. Lots of simple basic education, sort of a pleasant shop class at High School, Great Prof. makes for great students. That is fun times
I fixed a similar model. Mine was as dirty carb. Cleaned the carb, drained the fuel, replaced the fuel line and installed a fuel filter and boom it runs like new. Wish it wasnt a rust bucket lol but it does the job!
Was kinda hoping the 9hp was seized so i could have watched your magic lol. My father has the same one with this same transmission issue now I know how to fix it! You really help fill in the blanks man! Thanks so much
I've got the same snow-blower except it has an additional 2 " swath . It's a Craftsman when Sears still cared about their customers. The old 8 HP Snow -King Tecumseh engine runs strong as long as you watch your fuel. Snow blowers love 92 octane fuel. In wet snow, that engine is working it's a$$ off. Nice find Mustie1.
Mustie your resurrection videos have inspired me. But I'm seriously looking forward to more motorcycle ones. I've gotten on a "seized motorcycle engine repair" fixation and your CB350 video was what made me subscribe. Thank you and keep at it!
I took a small engine repair shop in high school and i must say i have learned way more watching your videos than they taught me which was not a hell of a lot.
I got a new snowblower at the curbside the same exact way just driving by and it was sitting at the curbside for garbage last year it was maybe a year or 2 old it looked great. After I got it home to my home shop literally the only thing wrong was the fuel line had come off lol I don't have a clue why someone wouldn't have seen such an easy fix 🤷♂️. Oh well turned out great for me. Anyways thanks for the video it's great to see others not letting good things like this go to the landfill. 👍✌
Well that turn out pretty good got a bus ride and some road treasure plus some fandangling did see some fun tinkering I enjoyed the overall video thanks Mustie
Free snowblowers are awesome! I've got three them right now and all work perfect. It's amazing how many people just couldn't be bothered maintaining them and would rather replace them with a new one, for the sake of a belt or a few simple adjustments.
My dad gave me the same exact blower 10+ years ago and it was given to him by a friend and I tell ya a few oil changes and plugs swapped and belts replaced that machine still runs pretty damn good.
I just happened to cross this video. Love your casual style of addressing things. Looking forward to seeing what other mechanical stuff you've been up to. Oh yeah, I learned a lot too! Thanks.
I'v ran that same snowblower before at a family, that thinks a BEAST!!! one of the best one I've ever used. Pushed it into a 2ft snow drift and it just plowed through it! and that electric start is a GODSEND when its 5f outside
Nice job Mustie. I'd price it at $350, and I'm in PA. Those China carbs are pretty good, I only get the adjustable ones. You get get them for about $15 if needed. Nice tip using the brush bristle to clean the jet.
Yea The 589.00 Ariens piece of crap. Not that this ones much better and Doublewide 6 repairs LLC what with that. Also the guy who pushed a small little piece of crap Snowblower that was 500 retail on his channel, what was it called the powerstupid, when at $500 you could get a used Pro model snowblower on craigslist in good shape for 500. I think Mustie's got it.. You both are full of crap.
If you did not pick up Im talking to both you knuckle heads and 14hp, thats wrong. 13hp 420cc is the max power engine they put on snowblowers so your full of crap too.
26 that's all, wow. I have two 46 year old Ariens one with a replacement and one with its original engine and I can tell ya, their is no reason in hell for a 14hp engine on any Ariens Snowblower, even their largest 36 wide machine's. At 14hp their is no reason for that much power and when those engines are off those engines are huge and make the machine hard to move and its a battle even with it on, why would you want to fight your machine. So what Brand, hp, and cc engine do you have on your machine than smart guy?
I don't think you know what HP/CC rating your engine is. I don't care what kind of Briggs it is just the HP/CC rating on the engine. Is the engine even winterized meaning has shields over the linkages and a heater cover in place of an air filter? Either way on a 32 wide machine, you don't need 14hp, if it were 14hp, you havent given me its cc rating to find out what it trully is because 420cc is 13hp. But either way a 10hp engine will do just fine on a 32 wide machine, 11, 12hp great. Ariens 36 wide machines come with a standard 13hp, 420cc engine and it is more than enough power. I have a 1971 Ariens Sno-Thro it is also a 32 wide unit and 10hp, is more than enough power on that beast and I broke even on that machine. My 1971 24 wide Ariens, that one I got free. My 2002 Snapper 8246 that I bought used in 2006 at age 4 barely used still practically brand new with its original engine, I paid $450 for. Those are deals. What you got is not a "deal" and who pays 589? Private sellers sell machines at even numbers 500, 525, 550. What did you go to s shop, a shop would charge an oddball number like that, just like the dealers and the big box stores selling stuff at $999.99. If you got it at a repair shop than he also made money off you too, so no really not a deal. Yes I've thought about it from every angle.
I bought a similar machine for $100 from a neighbor who was moving to California. It hadn't been used for about 10 years, so as you can imagine, the carbureator was full of what looked like napalm. A 24 hour soak in Gumout and it fired right up. I've had it for almost 10 years now and still going strong.
I picked up a 4000W walmart for free yesterday and got it running. Instead of wasting time cleaning things before I got it going I approached it like you do and got spark (needed oil), dumped some gas in the carb and got it fired. This was after draining water out of the cylinder and exhaust. After it fired I messed with it to make it run properly.
You inspire me to work on the garage full of projects I have waiting for me. I might have to put WIFI in the garage. I have the tools but so many projects can be over-whelming. Thanks for guidance.
I don't have a mechanical bone in my body but this guy has me hooked.... if I knew half as much as him about anything with an engine my head would be to full to remember how to get home..
Good job. Next door neighbor just gave me the exact same one sitting in weather for 3 or 4 years. Luckily it was drained of gas. A few hours yesterday with some bust rust and tools and it's good to go.
Built by MTD in Ohio and parts still available. They also make Cub Cadet, Columbia, Remington, Troy Bilt, Yard Machines and Yardman. I looked for several months before I bought a 24" Remington, I also looked at cheaper brands but found out that replacement parts were hard to find. Another great video, thanks!
I have had the same problems with some engine sitting have high idle but no low idol usually a dead indicator of a clogged jet I put liquid seafoam in the gas tank with just a little bit of gas and let it run through a full cycle usually does the trick your videos are very good and informative
Great find. I recently found a similar 10 HP Tecumseh powered one. No front end so I made a pusher out of it using a section of plastic barrel. Pushes slush and snow. OK for city folk. Pull the wheels if possible and lube axles. Axle bearings may be egg shaped, REorient them 180° if they are Hex Brass Oil-lite ones if possible. It will tighten the still lumpy chain(s).
Most of the problems lie in the lack of storing the machine properly, and top that off with today's lazy people and the lack of any mechanical skills at all...if their "smart phone" doesn't have an app for it forget about them being able to do anything, if they can't click a button to fix it, its garbage.
Another great video Mustie, its amazing what people throw out and its always good when it costs virtually nothing to fix and get running again I do the same thing with stuff people throw out.
Handy tip for snowblower chains.... Try mixing up a 50/50 mix of chainsaw bar oil and WD40. Paint it on and exercise the chain just like you did. Then wipe off any excess. The bar oil is tremendously tacky and won't dry out. Seals out moisture really well too.
Looks like a keeper. My buddy dropped off the same snowblower for me to repair. It wouldn't run, just a carb clean and quality grease and it works great. Wish I had a lift like that! Would be great for tractors.
How ironic, I found the exact same model on the curb last month. I had the challenge of dragging it up my icy driveway, not much easier than up those ramps on the truck. Thankfully after a carb rebuild and a little TLC I got it running! Decided to keep it since initially I was going to sell it. Glad to see yours worked out also!
Pretty good snow machine your fixing. And the VW bus-classic vehicle. They use to teach this at high school and auto repair. But that all went away to robotics and Computer relate classes.
Always like Christmas when I find a dead on the side of the road find like that. I have done that more times than I can count. I have a trailer now to hold my finds. I fix those old Crapsmans all the time. I sold one of those last fall. I need me an air power table like yours. The usual check things out, then determine it just needs a carb kit and oil change, then gets the for sale sign.
That thing needed more than a little 30W oil down below... my 33 year old Toro still has the factory grease down there and has had zero drive issues except broken belts... like 10 or so years ago. Try finding a 31.5 inch belt... it's on its second engine though... that HS50 was absolute garbage. The OHH55 that's on it now is only a marginal improvement... blasted Tecrapseh carbs keep spewing fuel even with new floats, needles and seats...
That looks like a good machine. I wish I had one like it...someone in my area wanted $400 for one although it appeared well cared for it was out of my price range.
Although I have a 20 yr old Deere about the same size it's nice to see the Craftsman functions. I suspect mine is set up like the Craftsman. The belt drive looks similar. Thanks for a great video.
One man's trash is another man's treasure. Love this channel.

Free snowblowers are awesome! I've got three them right now and all work perfect. It's amazing how many people just couldn't be bothered maintaining them and would rather replace them with a new one, for the sake of a belt or a few simple adjustments.
I learn something new every time I watch a project...very enjoyable
My dad gave me the same exact blower 10+ years ago and it was given to him by a friend and I tell ya a few oil changes and plugs swapped and belts replaced that machine still runs pretty damn good.
I never thought that one of these machines would look so good in this shade of green
Since I have to work with my snow blower and I know a fair amount it's great to see you identify and fix a problem. Without a tear down and rebuild.
I just happened to cross this video. Love your casual style of addressing things.
Looking forward to seeing what other mechanical stuff you've been up to.
Oh yeah, I learned a lot too!
Thanks.
What a great score. One can't beat free! Thanks for the video.
What HORSEPOWER/CC RATING IS THE ENGINE??
I have had the same problems with some engine sitting have high idle but no low idol usually a dead indicator of a clogged jet I put liquid seafoam in the gas tank with just a little bit of gas and let it run through a full cycle usually does the trick your videos are very good and informative
great work fixing it, will do someone so good this winter.
Nice job mustie! It's the first time I've seen 110V starter plug. Nice design, sensible!
Never ceases to amaze me how you find and revive those poor machines back to a new life! Excellent work!!
(Cushman?)
Most of the problems lie in the lack of storing the machine properly, and top that off with today's lazy people and the lack of any mechanical skills at all...if their "smart phone" doesn't have an app for it forget about them being able to do anything, if they can't click a button to fix it, its garbage.
I love this chanel, he takes things that people would consider trash and saves them, keep up the good work!
Another great video Mustie, its amazing what people throw out and its always good when it costs virtually nothing to fix and get running again I do the same thing with stuff people throw out.
another great video...was happy to see you wearing safety goggles when using the wire wheel...
Unbelievable crud in those cooling fins. You added life to that machine.
Nicely done Mate!! I'm surprised you didn't take that little 2 stroke Tecumseh for a future bicycle build!!☺
Exactly! I was telling talking to the screen saying "No, take the other one too!!" lol
P
We're did you get your hydraulic lift table
@@glennrummel8292 pneumatic*
@@glennrummel8292 i got one at harbor freight for about $150 its hydraulic with a hand release to lower the lift. you use your foot to raise it
Handy tip for snowblower chains....
Try mixing up a 50/50 mix of chainsaw bar oil and WD40. Paint it on and exercise the chain just like you did. Then wipe off any excess.
The bar oil is tremendously tacky and won't dry out. Seals out moisture really well too.
You Sir Are Blessed... Love your channel .. 👍🏻
Looks like a keeper. My buddy dropped off the same snowblower for me to repair. It wouldn't run, just a carb clean and quality grease and it works great. Wish I had a lift like that! Would be great for tractors.
I am always amazed at the good stuff people throw away.
THE VERY BEST CAMERAWORK EVER!!! I can't believe you gave us a perfect view with the mirror! LOL
And near the end the rim was spinning forward while the tire was spinning backward! I must be drunk I guess! LOL
yeah but if you watch the valve stem it will go the other way,
How ironic, I found the exact same model on the curb last month.
I have the same snow blower< The idle sounds exactly like your's did. Thanks for sharing that quick fix!
Heck with the snowblower, I'm loving the old split window VW Bus!
Always like Christmas when I find a dead on the side of the road find like that. I have done that more times than I can count. I have a trailer now to hold my finds. I fix those old Crapsmans all the time. I sold one of those last fall. I need me an air power table like yours. The usual check things out, then determine it just needs a carb kit and oil change, then gets the for sale sign.
great video... helped me out and thrower now works. thx
Nice find. Right place at the right time is what I strive for too...haha, keep on the hunt.
I wish I had one like it...someone in my area wanted $400 for one although it appeared well cared for it was out of my price range.
odd watched this before but complete watch again thumbs up and shared again a great job done cheap and well
awesome find and l learned alto about how they work. Thanks!
Awesome video. I learned a lot from you. Thanks
First - subscribed. Now.....nice score & a great resurrection. Almost always the cause of problems is neglect of the equipment.
I have the exact same snow blower but it is 5HP 24 inch clearing path and i love it.
Although I have a 20 yr old Deere about the same size it's nice to see the Craftsman functions. I suspect mine is set up like the Craftsman. The belt drive looks similar. Thanks for a great video.
