Thanks for watching! Does anyone have any tips to get better at skimboarding? My daughter and I are just learning so we would love to hear any tips in the comments below.
I skim board a lot and I I just recently got that board and I haven’t tested it yet but I’m going to really soon but your form is good and hold the board by the tail and the side but I know it may be hard but try to go faster your form is good
Thank you so much for this video!! Very helpful. I have a whole new respect for surfers. They make it look so easy, until you try to actually stand up and balance.
I used to skim board a lot. I would always plant my front foot first. I also wouldn’t go straight into a wave. I would go horizontal to the waves to ride the shallow water and then let gravity pull you deeper. I also recommend running fact and placing the board a bit in front of you rather than throwing it and catching up to it. Once you get comfortable you can try pop shove-its which is when you spin the board under your feet.
Hello Vil.. I just made myself a Skimboard.. I really want to do this for a longtime.. just now that I really pushed it.. i just got My first play yesterday and I really did pure fall but it was Fun.. hahahah.. LETS DO THIS!! Woohhoohhh!!! I’ll Show My learnings in My future Vlogs.. yahooo!!!
Hi Mr Vil im your new filipino🇵🇭 subscriber ❤️ been skimming 10 years ago and now me and my friends are back at it with a woody board hihi i hope your still skimming. If not i hope i can have your skimboard as a Birthday gift this coming 4th of May❤️☺️
try to have your back foot land towards the middle of the board but on the backpad when you first get on. when you transition to the water slide your foot back for more control. cock your back knee in towards the board and turn your shoulders (look in the direction where you want to go) when trying to catch a waves. sounds like you got the foot work down just try and land on the center of the pads instead of on the rails. hope you keep at it, super fun sport
I recently bought that same board.. I got the size 48” for my son and I to enjoy. I feel buyers remorse because this board has no buoyancy and really sharp lines around the entire thing. Which i found out the hard way. I should’ve spent an extra 100 or 2 and bought an Exile skim board.. Good luck!
Hi! Sorry to hear that. You may be able to return it to Amazon if you are within a time window for it. Those exile boards look great! Please let me know if you have a better experience with them. I think the skimboards need to plane on the water to keep you afloat so the more speed you have with your one step, the more you will float on water.
No, you did the right thing in buying a $30 board to start. Most people learn on such a board and there's no reason to spend a lot of money for a fancy board you don't need as a beginner and you're not sure you'll use it. The sharp lines....just don't let the board hit you, but that's true of any board.
If you have a problem with the wind catching the board before it gets to the ground kick some dirt on the nose of the board and that will help the board fall even to the ground
Hello. Thanks for your question. The board I use is a Slapfish skimboard which I got from Amazon. It is made of fiberglass but a little cheaper than the exile skimboards which are top of the line. For cheaper options, you can also consider wooden skimboards. I have not tried them, but I have seen videos on youtube from DB skimboards. Check them out. Does anyone else have suggestions? Thanks.
Thank u so much for taking some time to reply. I might have to do my research on it. I surfskate and enjoy it very much. Came across skimboard (which is so new to me!) which look interesting & fun. Summer is just around the corner so I thought it would be nice yo chill out on the beach. I live in Australia so I’m not sure if I can do Amazon…lol. Thanks for the tips.
@@mynpj Great! I hope you enjoy it. I have been learning to skimboard and surf this past year and both have been really fun. I also recently got a surfskate and it is awesome too. All of them seem to compliment each other well.
tip 1#: first try to slide on dry sand and don’t throw the board , drop it as flat as possible and also continually get faster until you can run while dropping the board your welcoem
Ok great! I met someone named Vincent at this beach just a few days ago. My mistake. Thanks for watching! I am enjoying skimboarding at the beach with my family. Try it out!
I really enjoy skimboarding! I bring it whenever we got to the beach in the summer. I've been getting better with adding more speed and getting better timing for when to run and drop. But we get cold winters here in Boston, so I only go in the summer/early fall timeframe.
I can see various mistakes you are making. #1: Your board is sticking to the sand. You need to use Zum "speed wax" on the bottom of the board, not to be confused with the "surf wax" that you use on the top of the board to increase grip for your feet. If you toss the board on dry or wet sand in a skimming motion the board should glide smoothly on the sand on its own. If it sticks to the sand and doesn't glide then you're going to have trouble. #2: You are not putting your rear foot on the centerline of the board. That is causing the left edge of the board to dip, then you're not getting a flat undersurface that will hydroplane but instead it's pushing the water out to the right side and then the board is sinking, making contact with the sand, then throwing you off. You can glue a bumpy pad on to the rear centerline of the board and feel for that in the arch of your foot to know you've hit center, and you need to practice at hitting that mark. #3: You should be skimming in 1" water, but you are trying to skim straight into deep water like the pros do. To do that you need ultra speed. When just learning you are trying to skim at slow speed, you can't do that in deep water. That's why your skim is good but peters out once you get in 4" water. Skim parallel to the water line so that you stay in 1" water rather than skimming out into the deep water. If you watch the pros, they are literally sprinting at top speed as fast as they can possibly run, hahahaha...don't try that!

@@RABIDkillaclans Did you mean "board" or "broad?" they both look about 52" .

If your a beginner try going from the side of the waves

Slapfish is a $250 board, not a $30 one
I just started to skimboard I don’t really know how to do it but I was wondering if you had any tips
Practice the one step method shown in the video, first on sand then on thin layer of water. Start slow and speed up over time. Good luck and have fun!
I would definitely look at Blair Conklin’s how to videos on his channel Skid Kids
I think you need more speed but I am new too lol. I am watching Blair’s how to.
If you have a problem with the wind catching the board before it gets to the ground kick some dirt on the nose of the board and that will help the board fall even to the ground
Any recommendations for beginner first skimboard? Not too expensive as this will be my first ever skimboard. Thank u in advance.

to do sand drops you need speed wax
Try to crouch more for more balance and run to the side
A tip would be to frop on wet sand before riding onto water
Thank you!
I already can skim and what I do is go up more on the sand and wait till a wave breaks
Im sorry i was late i lost my phone i could not find it. And to anwer your queston no i have went skim boarding. Have a nice day
Sheron, thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the tips!
What beach is this?
Preston Beach! Is this Vincent that I met there? Hope you are well.
@@vilramos no I don’t believe we’ve met, but thank you, your video helped, take care

You probably good now but try to get more speed and step on the board more, but great clips and progression
What is the board
I got it on Amazon. It is a Slapfish skimboard. 50 inches long.
I can see various mistakes you are making.
#1: Your board is sticking to the sand. Thanks for all the tips! I will work on those. Have a great weekend.
How old are you? I’m 36 and fancy giving it ago
Try it out! You will love it. I am 48 years old.
Try running as fast as you can
try going from one SIDE of the beach to the other, then start doing wut ur doing
Run at a speed that you want to fall off
Get more speed and try it on shallower water
Thanks for the tip!
oh
Someone watched skidkids tutorial
I sure did!
And you still skimming?
Yes, I bring the skimboard with us to the beach and skim on flat days. I have also been surfing a lot lately.
@@vilramos awesome, I've just started at the ripe old age of 39 and I have done nothing but eat sand! I'm sticking with it though lol
Awesome! Keep at it! It is fun. Start out slow and speed up with your attempts. I am 48 years old. We are never too old to learn something new.
Run faster
Thanks for the tips! It is always fun to learn new things like skimboarding.
