I learned how to skim board by jumping onto my board front foot first. Idk if it makes a difference it just feels more comfortable to jump on front foot first.
is it a problem that i'm used to jumping front foot first? so i have my right foot in the front, i run, drop the board, do 2 steps, jump with my left foot so my right foot gets in the front before my left gets in the back of the board
@@TeddyParker i think it does matter considering how much easier and better my experience was after switching. Being champ literally doesn’t matter considering half the battle is being able to attend the events in the first place. Was Blair or Lucas at all these same events?

@@TeddyParker look you can skim however you like. But if you want to skim the best waves possible you will need different technique. Theres a reason nobody catches waves the way Webber does. And there’s a reason some of the ultra best like Blair, lucas, gamboa, Henderson, Bill + many many more are at least back foot first
@@TeddyParker come spend more time in laguna. You will see a very big difference in the wave quality bff riders get over the fff. I see it all the time and constantly have people talking about how they know fff isn’t as good but they don’t want to spend time to change
I weigh 200lbs and use a 3/4 XL. I feel like it's heavy but it's double carbon. It looks to me like all these guys use 5/8. What makes most sense for someone my weight in Florida on the east coast?
I've been skimboarding since I was 3 or so and I'm 10 but I don't live near beach so I come back to this video to help me remember again. Btw I'm going to South Carolina next week and I'm going to buy a new skimboard since my old one broke.
I'm goofy footed but I like to throw my board down with my right hand on the back of the board. Which means I have to get on the other side of the board to get on. What should I do?
Zernity Plays with skateboarding im goofy and i throw it down with my right hand on top. so when i jump on my heels are moving toward the board. hopefully that helps
I throw my board down and then I run at it and jump on. Is that bad? Where I am the waves don't break on the shore so I normally just skimboard across the sand not out
+H3CTIC_Roost3r12 you dont have to but it is better to have pads yoiu can just wax the whole thing but i have pads for the the tail pad and arch bar it was $78 dollars so you cn just wax it traction just is better grip and you stay on more but its just a +
i got it from my local skate/skim/surf shop its called the compound its like an hour away from where they were filming but just go to a local skim/skate/surf shop and get lets party traction its the cheapest and the best thats what i have
+ZixO - Gaming i just bought a skimboard with only that tractionpad on the back but that long tractionpad for the front i dont have. I waxed that. Is that ok too?
I feel like you need to sticky a comment saying it's not mandatory to skim back foot first with all these comments of kids doubting their natural technique in the comments... Especially when you sponsor the Valencia brothers lol
skating is much different from skim. back foot first will allow a much smoother transition onto the board, mainly when dropping on thick water. its also easier to sideslip when back foot first. and that friend who puts back foot first on a skateboard probably gets made fun of for it and really sucks at skating... no offense
About a week ago, I went to Innerlight surf shop and spent 250 on a 48in finerglass board rated to 165 lbs. about a week later (yesterday) I took it out to the beach. On my first try the board slipped from out from under me and I messed up my sternum just under the point of fracture. The pain from laughing feels like some 100 lb kid standing on your chest and jumping... It is expected to stay like this for the rest of the week.... #great😒
+Mike Brennan I just found out today that the injury was a dislocated sternum, there is nothing you can do about it and it is recommended that you don't use pain medication..... You just have to let it heal
mann i really hope zap continues this series, i wanna learn to backside wrap, pop shuv-it ect...
this is easily the most important lesson to learn to all beginners

Brooo that’s true ash
this topic please☝🏻
solid edit, looking forward to seeing the others to come
Great one
Can you guys please post a tutorial on the monkey crawl technique
Which is better Zap skimboard or Exile Skimboard?
I skateboard so I'm used to running and jumping on with my front foot on first how would i correct myself to going to my back foot first?
I go with my two feets the same time on the board and it works, its just how you like it, it works with a lot of technices
is it a problem that i'm used to jumping front foot first?
so i have my right foot in the front, i run, drop the board, do 2 steps, jump with my left foot so my right foot gets in the front before my left gets in the back of the board
exactly what i do. idk what i need to do too x)
1,5 years later, still standing goofy, front foot first, however can jump on the board way quicker, like 1 step in between
me too
BACK FOOT FIRST! for everyone who doesn't skim that way, i cannot stress how much better back foot first is compared to whatever you currently do..
Zap's best team rider who won the UST last year skims front foot first...
It literally doesn't matter.

Do frontside and backside wraps next !
What kind of skimboard it is??? Is it an wooden or a fiber one??? And what size it is?
Fiber. The size i dont know
Still tryna learn how to catch a wave :P Teach me!! I can get to it but I always sink into the wave instead of pushing off of it.
I have a question. is the ZAP MEDIUM WEDGE good for wave riding?
I had one and no... But depends on your skill level and weight
What if your goofy footed?
Cole Kjellman right foot forward
do opposite
Will the ZAP lazer able to float. Like wave riding 5 foot waves or so?.
no
not at all
Does this work with all skimboards as well
dig the gramatik at the end

Zernitys I just do a 180 to get on
Wath is the name of that material that is on the table (the kind of rubber)???.😭😱😱😱

ricky duke Yeah because your board looses speed. If you onestep and hydroplane, you might be able to get the waves that don't break on the shore.
you the best awesome🏄
Love this it worked
how do you pump!!
Hey! That's where I live!

where did you buy your board?
Hi I am Charley and I am 7. And 50 pounds. How long should my board be?
+ALEC SKATES 'cept maybe a mini for such a little grom?
So, I am goofy-footed and right handed. I gotta do a 180 before getting started.
