  • We have a bonus upload this week looking at the new XFly Models 1233mm GlaStar! This is a neat little model of a unique subject that makes for a good trainer. The finish is nice and smooth and the model assembles easily and quickly. In flight, the model fly's well and the 3s battery provides good power for basic aerobatics when carrying a touch of speed through the maneuvers. For extreme performance, one might need to consider a prop change or even bumping up to 4s, but that would require an ESC change. :) #TheRCGeek #GlaStar #NewProduct

    Great video thanks Chris. It's really useful for beginners and even the more experienced flyers to see the in-screen transmitter shots too.

    Chris. Wow, it does actually rain there in Cali…haha. Glad to see Xfly looking out for the beginner too. That is a cute plane and pretty tough from what i seen. Hope more RC companies come on board that way catering to new folks entering the hobby. I know lot of newbies dream of starting out with a warbird or even an EDF and become a bit distraught when it don’t work out for obvious reasons.
    Saying all that, look forward to seeing what’s next from Xfly. Look to be good quality from what I seen so far. 👍👍😎

    Great video Chris, the stick veiw is a plus. I like the white, almost bare, foam, it's opportunity knocking. I think Xfly is coming out with some great stuff at a great price. Have you seen their edf's?? AirHammer out??

    You say it could use a different prop but do you mean more pitch,less pitch,bigger dia. or less dia. New to electrics so what prop would
    you try for better performance?

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say a little more pitch to start, same diameter.

      It’s a discontinued product unfortunately. I’m working on a design to bring to market, so will hopefully have that available soon.

  • @jallen2281
    @jallen2281 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I recently purchased one of these and they're a great plane. The ESC is rated for 2-4S batteries. Maybe with the extra voltage you wouldn't need more prop?

    • @jallen2281
      @jallen2281 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was comparing this to the e-flite carbon z Cessna, which runs 4S, but only at 750kv, which puts you at the same prop RPMs as this plane with a 3S.

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I’m not sure the longevity of the motor, but might be worth a try. Sure would perk it up a bit.

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With extra voltage, you normally use a *smaller* prop........

    • @jaredallen5023
      @jaredallen5023 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brian-om2hh I guess that depends on the ESC/motor current rating, and what you're trying to do.

    Yea man, I think I'm out of this Horizon Hobby stuff. I cant get parts for my turbo timber, not even a prop. Any ideas how to get a couple other than whittling one out of a block of wood?

    • @Thercgeek
      @Thercgeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d recommend looking for a comparable prop from apc instead of sticking with the eflite labeled prop.

      @@Thercgeek need more people like you in the world. I thank you much for this. I'm just about done with the whole e flight gang. They should not sell what they can not service. Learn from the Automotive field I say. Bad customer support. Nice people but they do write back a little shout.

    • @paulrkytek6587
      @paulrkytek6587 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is not exclusive to HH, buy a prop of a similar diameter and pitch, eg if the TT prop is a 12x4 try an apc or tgs 12x6 electric prop or if you have one in the spares box an 11x6.but get a power meter at the same time, check the motor spec and then CAREFULLY increase throttle, CHECKING METER AT 1/2. 3/4 AND FULL and ensure new prop does not exceed the max amp and watt rating of the motor or the esc SO THAT YOU DONT BLOW THE MOTOR OR ESC.. If it looks like it is about to do so then either reduce the throttle curve in your tx settings ( eg 0,25,50,100% DOWN TO 0,25,50 70,85%) and recheck power meter or reduce prop diameter by cutting a bit off the ends and rebalancing until you get under the motors max amp and watts limit . Have fun.

      @@paulrkytek6587 yes I get amp draw and all that good stuff, probably cant tell I'm a controles engineer by my pic but heck yes sir. Sounds smashing and jolly good. Thanks for all the info, I will put it to good use.
