I have this palette and don’t have any issues with hard pan. The mattes probably just weren’t meant to being dug into with fingers. My only complaint with them is that they sometimes take a while to build but the looks that I get I love

I was curious about this palette but I now realize I have most, if not all shades, in my Motherships (I have 9, no #4). I stopped buying mac in 2019 to try other things but I still love their products. They’re our generations legacy brand. Basically, they’re our Este Lauder. They may launch new products, maybe not. They may make a splash, maybe not. But they have core, quality products with a lot of quiet repeat customers.

Mac has awesome bullet lipsticks, eyeliners and lip liners. I always loved their satin formula shadows. I haven’t bought any Mac for ages so it was great to get your impressions on the newer products.

Re: satin shadows, do you have any recommendations? I'm coming to realize that satins are where it's at for a quick everyday look for me, but it seems like a lot of brands call something satin when in reality it's a metallic. MAC seems like a contender for the real thing. Do you have any light, neutral-leaning satins you'd recommend? TY!

I have worn MAC for 25 yrs and honestly some of the best items are never talked about - certain shades of lipstick are so nice. There's an awesome black eyeshadow (single) called carbon which stays on for ages, as long as you are careful with fall out. You may enjoy trying the little lip palettes, (also never talked about) to try some different shades. I still love Studio Fix, Humor Me Blush, and Fabby lipstick, Modesty lipstick, Creme in your Coffee lipstick.......

Maybe try a different eye primer and try the palette again 🙂 maybe something a little creamer to help with your drier lids.. also use an eye cream to help that too! I haven’t seen an issue like this before with the shadow I love them

The paint pots were the first eye primer i ever tried. I wouldn't recommend them now cause they dry out quickly and there are just so many other eye primers on the market, but back in the day they were the best for keeping shadow from creasing on hooded lids. The Glow Play cream blushes and powder kiss liquid lipstick are still some of my faves, though.

  • @jessabeauty917

The extra dimension blush really flatters the face. That’s my top. I can credit MAC for not having everything pull warm. The powder kiss are for a blotted lip look without a defined edge and I think they do that well. The mattes don’t turn my lips into raisins as much as others.

I don't know that MAC really excels at eyeshadows. I would say base/complexion products and lip products are more their forte. Anything with the words extra dimension in the name, bronzer...blush..highlighter, is in the baked gelee formula, hence flawless. I highly recommend that formula.

Thank you for doing this!❤ I love MAC blushes and lipsticks, and have for decades 😅 for eyeshadows my new love is PMG. I think the color range of MAC is just amazing and the quality very good, it is what it is. Back in the 90s they were one of the first brands to actually bring us back some color and shimmer and that's what made them special 🎉 As someone else had mentioned, not all their colors pull warm, which is great, you can really find any shade / undertone. My close second favorite comparable brand is Inglot. Their lipsticks and blushes are similar.

I have not used MAC in years, since school days. They were The makeup brand of the early 2000s though. Recently I bought the mascara and new setting spray, both of which I found ok, but not wow enough to repurchase. The talc free loose powder seems interesting though

Love the glow play blushes from Mac! Blush please is my favourite neutral blush.
Fun fact: i used to buy mac single eyeshadow because at the time (2012-around 2017) they were basically the only "cool" higher brand in Germany. We were going nuts when they brought out their special editions. So to this day i still compare eyeshadow prices to a single Mac eyeshadow, which makes most high end brands like Natasha Denona or even Pat McGrath quite reasonable 😄 (Mac single are bigger though)

Martina, I've seen these MAC shadows used many times from several of the new palettes, including by a MAC Representative, and they've performed beautifully. In this look, you covered your entire lid with a deeper shade and then added the lightest over the top expecting it to shine like the Sun. This just won't happen with the majority of shadows, no matter what you use to make the lighter shadow stand out - even your dear Pat's. From what I saw, they didn't appear patchy at all. If you wished to make the look stand out a tad more, add a coloured liner like your Victoria Beckham's. During my 20's & 30's, despite loving fashion and all the great stuff that surrounds it, I had much better things to do than to worry about make-up and when it came to the eyes, my favourite look was just two shades of Revlon! A cool-tone brown satin and a cream shade. No shimmers nor 'special shades'. Try not to laugh! I simply covered the lids with the cream and placed the brown in a way that allowed the cream to still be seen on the inner edge of the lid whilst using my favourite make-up term - "blend, blend, blend". These were the only shadows I took with me to Europe for 2mths, even when I went to the Monte Carlo Casino! It's all in the way that we apply. During all of my years indulging in spectacular cosmetics, I've never owned shadows that didn't perform - except for the cream ones I wanted to trial, and to use one of your quotes - "I'm not lying either". Many factors are involved with shadow application, from our primers down to our mood. I don't recall you feeling this way when you first used this palette, unless I'm forgetting something? I didn't see any issues with the application whilst viewing and thought it looked nice when finished. It would have looked nicer if you hadn't of taken the deeper shade onto the lower lid to allow the lighter shade to have its time to shine, as Pat's IntensifEYES can only go so far in rescuing a look. After a deeper shade has been applied, you either work with that or get out your concealer to cover it up and then apply the lighter shade. Just for the record, I did own a variety of other shades of shadows when younger too, the brown and cream were simply my 'go to' shades when not wanting to fuss. For those of us with paler complexions, you just can't beat the shades in that palette for anything from quick & easy to stunning. I know how much you love your VB Kajal liners, but I tried out one from Shisheido that arrived within the last few weeks. It is retractable and thicker than the pencil - much cheaper too! I was very impressed. You know how so many rave about Lethal's Gel Liners, yet even these will not stay in my waterline despite my dry eyes. The Shiseido did. I've now got the royal blue and plum shades on there way! I just wish they had more shades available! Their mascara are fantastic too. I bought the deep green and can't wait for the blue and purple to come back! They really do have some great products at rather respectable prices. I can't wait to get more of their VisionAiry Gel Lipstick which perform much better than the Chantecaille Lip Chics at half the price! I just got these at Mecca as I'm skint after the three ND Palettes! Two of those should be arriving tomorrow and the Metropolis a few days later. I'd hate to think what my eyes will be like after this week! Take care.🇦🇺💖🕊
PS. What can be causing hard pan on your shadows is the amount of times you stick your fingers into the shadows. I saw this when you filmed the Yucca Palette and could see what the oil from your fingers had done to the shadows within one video. You repeatedly do this with your shadows whenever you film another series and each time are destroying them. You have to expect this when you do this. Fingers aren't meant to go into eye-shadows, which is why we have brushes and applicators. You could always get a stencil and use a brush to apply to your arm or just use a brush instead which will keep the shadows performing much longer. It really did show up on the Yucca video, as I remember saying to myself that - "there is a palette ruined during its first opening". We need to treat them as we expect them to perform.💖

    • @krisushi1
      @krisushi1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@Mollyjean2014 What's the 'ouch' for? Martina loves Pat McGrath and she makes no secret of it. She admittedly compares other shadows to Pat's all the time and will know exactly what I meant, as most would. We all know that MAC doesn't come close to Pat's shadows, which was the simple point I made. I love Pat McGrath myself, although my collection covers a wider range of brands. I also don't run a YT Channel, so it's much easier for Martina to use Pat's shadows to compare with others, as the majority would know what she means. It was only meant in an affectionate manner, as Martina has many more products from PML than I do. I stick to the eye-shadows only at this stage, except for the two IntensifEYES sticks. She also gets the best number of views from videos done with PML's, which is why it's a friendly way of saying that PML's is her territory. I maybe wrong here, yet I'm guessing that you're not an Aussie? As Martina and myself are, we understand certain terms that others may not, although I can't see how calling Pat 'dear', an affectionate term, can be found to be offensive? Probably just a language breakdown, but no harm at all was meant. Good evening.💖

I made my Dior video because of a Mac/Dior comparison I managed to make at the counter:
    - I was attracted by this Mac palette Unfiltered Nudes
    - I swatched it
    - Then I went to Sephora
    - I swatched Dior Soft Cashmere (before reformulation)
    - I purchased 5 Dior palettes 😂
I recorded a video about it. I practically have reproduced this Mac palette with Dior… The quality is another level

I think you probably hit the nail on the head when you said the satins are good for mature eye lids. I love the metallic, glittery eye shadows that they can see from the space stations! Just as long as they’re on my daughter and not on me! I’ll get more daring - sometimes, don’t let’s get too bold now - with greens and purples if they’re in a satin finish and I find MAC cover my preferences for that. Paint pots are still a go to when I’m in a hurry and I really like the powder kiss lip mousse and those squishy blushes 😊

MAC's eye-shadows are in a totally different league to ND and PML. You just can't compare them as they aren't meant to look the same. It will depend on the look you're opting for. You can't compare Dior or Chanel to PML's either, as they're meant for quite different appearances. I've seen most of these MAC Palettes used, including the brightly coloured ones, and they all applied wonderfully. What is the first thing Martina does when showing a make-up palette? She puts her oily fingers in the pans, which we all have - just look at your phone or devices you swipe on! Each time this is done, it corrupts the shadows. I would guarantee that this would be why any of her shadows hard pan. Many swatch using brushes or stencils/brushes which keeps the shadows performing longer.💖

I like Mac face & Body foundation for an everyday look. Their shade range is what keeps me coming back to the brand. I have not tried their eyeshadow palettes. That one did intrigue me because it is neutral. I don’t mind a dry formula, as long as it blends. K Beauty palettes are dry and they blend quickly. Odd that this formula is dry and doesn’t blend.

I don't have many MAC products but I do love the Face & Body foundation (still have the old formula). The Glow Play blushes fade on my cheeks soon after application so I don't reach for them which is a shame as they have some great colours. I was nearly going to buy this palette but so glad I watched your review first. I have many of the Dior quints in the old formula of the last 2 years, not the latest clean reformulation, which are impeccable. Last I looked the old formula is still available at David Jones & well worth picking one up before they're gone forever!

I've been using MAC since the 90s. I have bought many single shadows and still use them to this day. I've never bought a palette because I've read reviews over the years where people say the palette shadows didn't work for them. I would recommend buying single shadows if you're curious. As for staples, I've used Mineralize powder for years. It's the best powder foundation I have found. Some lipsticks are also very good, but I've been annoyed with MAC lately because they have discontinued very good shades over the years and keep releasing less versatile limited edition stuff. I also have many pan blushes, and some of their khohl liners are good (though I've read one color causes people eye irritation). I also love their lip pencil formula, but they need more shades without an orange base.

I do own some of their most popular single eyeshadows in a Z palette but have to agree that compared to PMG, ND, ABH, Juvias place or even CP, they’re shadows aren’t the best. I have 4 of them. They are easy to apply and wear very well, and don’t try out my lips. I wish they’d add more varied shades!

I use very very rarely foundation and when I do it is MAC face & body. More often or most of the time I use two of their concealers (Studio Fix shades) to simply even out my complexion. My holy grail from MAC is the sculpt palette which offers six powders and they are not only great quality but very useable for my pale, cool toned skin. So for me MAC is all about complexion. I have not tried their eyeshadows in ages but they were always hit and miss. In general I usually prefered the quality of the single shadows over their palettes. I liked their lipsticks and will always own a Viva Glam shade as I love this charity.

Beautiful look, although i know you really struggled with the palette. I dont think MAC has been a thing here in the since the 90's ( when i was in highschool) and early 2000's. They do excel at their foundations and powders, but with so many competitive products Ive never cared to try them. And of course Max Fix plus setting spray and the paint pots for eyeshadow primers which i recommend and use frequently. I use fix plus to wet my sponge for certain products or wet my brush for shadows and it works really well. But i cant say that i have even even been intrigued by any of their products in the last 20 years. 🤷‍♀️ Indie shadows have surpassed the pigmentation and shine that MAc used to dominate and they havent updated their formula to keep up with newer brands. I feel they could make a comeback if they did. Their single shadows seem to be of better quality from what i have swatched and i have a few but they are similar to ABH and Colourpop singles. And at times Colourpop had more pigmentation. This is just my personal opinion and i prefer more pigmented and sparkly shadows. So i dont mean to offend anyone who loves MAC. ❤❤❤

    • @MartinaLily
      @MartinaLily  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Melina! I definitely need to try fix plus and the paint pots, everyone keeps recommending them. And super interesting that the singles are different to the palettes. I agree with you on the indie vs mac shadow quality though. I also get that there a lot of people who probs prefer the softer more satin metallics. I think I'm just a sparkle lover so was disappointed haha 💗💗

I'm sad you're not liking the palette :( Maybe it's because 15 years ago Mac was the best we had and I am used to them (and yes, they're very different to modern formulas we get from Pat or Natasha), but I have no issue working with them, and I own several shadows from this palette as singles. Maybe you got a dud? Or the production of these palettes is not on par with what they usually do.

Lol I feel 😞 too cuz she doesn’t like the palette because MAC has a soft place in my heart; but I understand. So many new formulas come out. I too use the latest brands❤

I know :( I really really wanted to love this palette. I do like the satin shadows in the palette just the mattes have been awful to work with for me personally. Maybe it is the palette though? A lot of people are saying there is a difference between the single shadows and the palettes? 💗💗

20 years ago all we really had were MAC eyeshadows....we had nothing to compare to so really didn't realise how crappy their products were! I very occasionally go back and give them a try to see if they've up'ed the game but I'm always disappointed 😢

I swear the Mac shadows of today aren’t the Mac shadows I remember growing up with, they’ve gone so downhill…..not improved. Pigment doesn’t equate quality …I always liked how buildable the OG Mac shadows were. I have an old Mac quad (nostalgic reasons wore it to prom) the shadows are 20 years old and still look good and swatch nicely. Compare that to todays offerings I’m just even more disappointed
My only current Mac staples are Face & body ( I have backups of the 4oz bottles I still think the formulas changed despite their assurance otherwise) I love that stupid foundation it’s hardly any coverage but the wear is impeccable for such a glowy product.
Fix Plus there’s just somethign about it that I can’t find in other sprays …it melts powders like nothing else I can’t find an alternative. I also use paint pots quite often … tho they are quite drying, I usually mix them with a bit of eye cream they have such good matte shades. I love studio fix powders and Mineralized skin finish, wish more brands did baked powders !

I was so happy to see the upload of a MAC video from you! But what a shame this was disappointing for you in so many aspects.
I absolutely love MAC, not a single product has let me down so far. And I have lots 😂
I love the studio radiance foundation, the paint pots, have lots of single eyeshadows from them and a couple palettes and they work impeccably (though I don’t have the one you have and only one shadow out of it in my MAC stash, les artiste, love it), fix plus spray, studio fix concealer, skinfinish powder and highlighter, several lip products, powder blushes… all kinda in the holy grail realm, especially foundation and concealer. I do use other additional complexion products to complete my base but I couldn’t be without the MAC stuff.
Anyway, not everything can work for everyone and I don’t have a single one of the products you showed in your video. So maybe I got lucky 😂
    Fun watching, as always ❤️❤️❤️

Oh, I mean, I do think you would find some stuff you like if you keep looking- but maybe also no need after this…? As you yourself always say, only you can decide 💜
That foundation pen did get bad reviews all around I think, so I stayed away. Weird, cause they are so good with complexion.
I love the eyeshadows but they are not comparable to PMG for instance, in terms of wow factor. But the ones I have do blend well and are wonderful for me for either quick, pretty office looks or the occasional colorful look.
Anyway, I could go on and on, lol 😂

It’s crazy because I remember back in the day you know whatever 14/15 years ago I had some Mac eyeshadows that were fantastic. I had made myself a couple quads like a purple one a green one and they were super pigmented, but I’m probably was using more metallic eyeshadows, you know obviously I had nothing else to compare to some really good complexion products they have good primers I don’t really care for their lipsticks the foreman I had purchased like four and I don’t know I’m not crazy about them. Maybe they were old I don’t know. The look still came out nice. I do still love the powder brushes. I have several I love warm soul and then there’s another one in that formula that’s really really nice but I mean it’s hard to screw up powder blush 😂😂

I really like the Mac face and body foundation. They have a good lip liners they have decent mascaras they’re matte lipsticks are good. It was the cream ones that I tried. I don’t know if those are the ones that I am iffy about. They also have this one blush that you can use as a face contour and it’s in the most stunning shade ever it’s called Harmony it’s a Matte powder blush but I was using this forever ago as contour and I picked it up again recently, and I love it the other blush shade that I really really like is sweet enough in the mineralize blush formula. It’s just like a perfect peachy, pinky beige nude Blush can never have too many of them haha

I replaced MAC. The feel of left out as a limited edition didn't came to the Netherlands or stuff sold out in an hour, is not funny. Some of my faves were limited edition or are discontinued. Besides FixPlus, Dainty blush, and paintpot (Painterly as base for cooltone and Soft Ochre for warmtone looks) I decluttered all.

That eyeshadow palette is aesthetically pleasing to look at, but the formula seems so outdated, they really should improve their shadows…. I think the shimmer shades should be more sparkly/metallic, they definitely know how to do that (given the amazing eyeshadow formulas they come up with for single shadows during the holiday season), and their mattes look awwwwwful oh my goodness. I’ve always wanted to try the glow play blush formula, I’m glad you’re into it. And as you mentioned stinky fragrances, I wanted to share my experience with the rare beauty lipstick formula… we see eye to eye, that fragrance is so unnecessarily strong and won’t go away, you can taste it and smell it even when it’s on your lips already, apart from it being drying out as hell. I honestly reckon this product doesn’t match the rest of the rare beauty line, truly don’t know what happened there. Sorry for the gigantic comment 😂 lovely video ❤❤❤

My mom keeps buying Mac singles to create quads, but she never learns that they suck. I tell her don't go to MAC for shadows. Twice in one year she tried to "gift" quads to me. Nearly identical boring color story with no pigment. I gave her an ultimatum, kindly take your talc only shadows back or I'm going to throw them away. She shrugged and said, "pitch them, if you don't want them".
Neither of us want to waste money, but they weren't worth taking up the minimal space. Byeeeee. God they were so boring.... I can't believe they sold the singles for $17. I don't think they're worthbeing free.

Mac’s current eyeshadows just don’t pack enough of a punch for me. I got a single for Christmas, what looks like a lovely green in pretty (but cheap) pink packaging. It was so lackluster. However I just discovered that layering it over a black cream shadow stick turns it into something very close to the green in mothership II, with smaller shimmer particles. Probably don’t need it since I have Mothership II, but at least it performs now. I miss their old loose pigments. I lost so many in the fire

I’ve never liked Mac shadows. They just can’t keep up with ones like DeNona. Even back in the early days Stila was so much better than MAC. Let me say I cringed when you put your fingers in the shimmers. Oil from your hands ruins them and can cause hard pan and even color change. Just use a high quality NATURAL BRISTLE brush like a good Hakuhodo. It will pick up and lay the shimmer down perfectly. FYI I don’t share your love of PM shadows at all. Overpriced. ND to me is far better. For incredible shimmers try Neen. The owner used to be the creator of Stila before Estée Lauder bought it and ran it into the ground. I still buy Kitten which is the only shadow still made out of all of the shadows. I still miss Viola and Cloud and all of the incredible mattes. They all blended so well and lasted until you took them off.
