It's a tricky song to perform live, even for Sheena, who recorded it! lol! In the recording studio, it's a layering of so many moving parts to work together..so you get a song that is balanced! And that is all worked on for a long time to make a perfect sound and song, in what is basically a music laboratory! You can never recreate that live! But, the reason we are all here watching this, is because we love the song...it moved us...and we want to see and hear Sheena sing it live and feel what she's singing from her as the person! She is amazing! She has an incredible voice...can sing her songs live...in a TV studio...in the early 80's!!! Acoustics, microphone, instruments, back up...not the same control as in the studio! But she always nails it and sings to perfection! A beautiful real singer and artist! Hats off! xx P.s. I just wish she had the big bouff hair like she did in the music video! lol! Fabulous!
So. If you know Sheena you know she can SING!!!!! She hit that high note. Amazing singer. Not her best performance but we KNOW she is no joke and can SING!
I saw this when it first aired, and I was completely mesmerized by Sheena's performance! I can see now that it wasn't technically perfect, but it was my first time to hear it. She was probably very nervous; she had only been really popular for about a year at this point. Still moved by this song and her voice.
The singles she was putting out at this point were simply amazing in their quality, variety and unpredictability. Album after album proved amazing, as did her sales figures.
+MrLisztian Sad that some of her best recordings the American audience never heard as Capitol would remove tracks from her albums to make them conform to the U.S. standard of 10 or 12 songs. I always bought the European versions and the Japanese versions, which went even further and sometime included unreleased songs or single B sides. Like Petula Clark, Sheena used B sides to present unusual and surprising music rather than throwing some album track on back.
What a voice! I always put her up there with Olivia Newton John. Very beautiful lady♥ I was a big fan in the 80s until she hooked up with Prince (I hated Sugar Walls)
One of last of the true "vocalists" ... Sheena and Taylor Dayne, and of course Whitney pretty much rules the 80's and early 90's as the women with the "pipes".
a couple of slightly flat notes... ... lets see you get out there and do "it"...! she still sang with passion... and for the most part HIGH precision... her High C (if you know what that is...) was BEAUTIFUL... well placed... and on pitch... a VERY difficult song to sing... in MANY ways!
TOTALLY disagree... THE HIGH C is amazing...the rest... a little flat occasionally... BUT ... the brightness in her voice... that is ALWAYS in her WONDERFUL Studio recordings... is HERE and ALIVE ... who else sings stuff like this anymore... OHHH ... I KNOW... NO ONE...!
MrLisztian But normally Sheena's singing is spot-on but here it's not as good as normal (in my opinion). She's always been my favourite singer and still sounds good live.
Joe Mcateer Not always... I've heard her on GREAT voice days live in concert... I've heard her on bad voice days live in Concert... and she still gives 100%
She was not in good shape. The highest D is a little bit lower than the nomal D. Perhaps around at this time she couldn't make a powerful belting D. I heard her singing the same song in 1981. It was precisely just like this. Perhaps she couldn't have succeed in reaching exact powerful D before mid 1982.
THAT'S because it's NOT a D... it's a high C... Her D 6 is in "sugar walls"... I'm a professional musician who writes opera... and high church music... I know the twelve tone scale inside and out...
SING SHEENA SING...LOVE YOU.
Powerful. I miss her voice with today's vocalists. She'd be #1.
agreed!
❤❤❤LOVED THAT HIGH NOTE. THANK YOU SHEENA FOR ALL OF YOUR WONDEROUS WORKS 💜🌹🌺
My fave song of hers!!! Beautiful❤

An incredible vocal performance from an incredible singer!
my favorite song!!! by her!!

Love this little Scottish lady ! Wish she was still selling out shows! I would be first in line !

+Wayne Brasler yep...

+Wayne Brasler I remember what was on the back side of "Morning Train"... it was "Calm Before the Storm"... a GREAT tune!!!!
Yes this is not an easy song to performe live, and i think she did it very well :-)
What a voice! I always put her up there with Olivia Newton John. Very beautiful lady♥ I was a big fan in the 80s until she hooked up with Prince (I hated Sugar Walls)
This song will always break my heart, for the many lost opportunities I took for granted in my younger years...
Wow, skills.
Thank so much for uploading this gem. I love Sheena!
This is a Live Performance. It suppose to sound different so you know that she is not lip singing. 5 stars!
part of it sounding off is the recording itself.
@@Jucelegario the vocals are GREAT... her high C was lovely...
LOVE LOVE LOVE

+Micah Kayslinowski yep...! AND... she's still alive...
Taylor Dane was great. She sounded black.
awesome
😍😘🥰
LOVE HER!
sweet!
She has a fantastic voice.
back when the tonight show was good and had real talent
who the hell knew Sheena E, could belt out this?
I love her. She was flat on a few notes but that's a difficult song. She was always one of my favorites.
Always amazed me how Capitol managed to yank from the American versions of her albums the best tracks.
Sheena went flat! But it could be the tape warping sound. I am going to look for a better one.
Not her best performance but she hit the notes and well it’s classic sheena Easton so it’s loved
Wonder if she was having trouble hearing herself in the monitors? She was flat several times. Still a great voice though.
Not her best performance and not her best look but still love her.

She was just having an off night. Her performance of FYEO from this same ep. of The Tonight Show was also a little shaky.
She usually nailed it live.
I thought it was really nice... the HIGH C was beautiful...
She seems to be singing fast. Was she on a time crunch?
Sexxy
Not her best performance but a very difficult song to sing

You can listen to Sheena’s perfectly powerful D in this.
THAT'S because it's NOT a D... it's a high C... Her D 6 is in "sugar walls"... I'm a professional musician who writes opera... and high church music... I know the twelve tone scale inside and out...
and her high C was very good... I work with professional opera singers all the time... the best of the best... Sheena had it going on back then!
