- Finding the perfect saddle height... Theres lots of different methods and online calculators out there that claim they can get you the perfect saddle height. Unfortunately, most of these calculators and methods fail to account for individual differences, particularly around mobility and flexibility. Here's how we recommend finding the correct saddle height for your road bike!

Matching socks and cuffs has got to be worth at least 5 watts. Good stuff chaps!
Had a bike fit from Dan, and he fixed my saddle sore issue within 20 mins. Top guy who really knows his stuff.
@@floydie9255 Thanks! Glad we could help you out 👍
Great video. Thanks for AIRC coverage!
Great video and guidance on setting seat height. I would like to point out a flaw in your method which is that, deduced by his super-aero bike, skin suit etc, Alex seems to be a performance-focused rider, yet you are setting his seat height in the most non-aero, upright, straight arm, hoods position. To get into an aero, racing position either in drops or forearms parallel to ground Alex's will rotate his pelvis forward, in doing so the head of the femur moves deeper into the hip which effectively SHORTENS the leg. This decrease in "effective" leg length will make even his new seat height prohibitively high. This is commonly why riders with height set upright find if difficult to ride for even short periods in an aero position. You will note that professional riders position when sitting upright appears very low compared to amateur setup, this is the reason...As they get aero and obviously need to spend long periods in aero position their leg extension, pelvic stability is spot on.
Watched quite a few of these and it’s amazing how many riders have their saddles too high which I notice when I am driving. Much more than this rider as well - they are really reaching and rocking.
I had all these problems solved but I still had pain after a four hour fit and a two hour revision .
Looking forward to seeing you in February for a saddle pressure fit. Kept up with the videos. L9ve them
Thanks very much 🙏
It will be well worth the visit. My saddle pressure was good, but the saddle was wrong for me. They recommended a PRO Stealth Curved to replace my Selle Italia SLR Boost which really lacks any padding around the nose. The PRO saddle is so good, it's now on all 3 bikes including the gravel and commuter hack!!
I also thought I was fairly conservative with my saddle height, but that dropped 15mm too!
Great vid! Also WHAT A BIKE !
Spinning at max cadence, like 150+ rpm is a good way to test position. Very important in my opinion
Looked the same or worse to me after adjusting
The best saddle height is the one that doesn't rock your pelvis and maintains your foot around 90º, I wrote this at the beginning of the video and obviously this is what you talked about. I'll add that this should be performed while you're cold which is equal to when you're tired. If you ride with someone ask them how do you look from behind, go down until your spine is mostly static.
The bike seems too small and the handlebar too low, his arms should also have a little bend to account for less vibration and tension to the neck and shoulders.
I have had several bike fits but none could solve the problems that come with osteoarthritis .
I used to sit on my saddle clip my feet in lean against a wall when my knee was slightly bent at the bottom of the stroke, I bought a new bike went on a club run and struggled all day,got home lifted my saddle by 5 mm and it was fine, being in a club I saw many contraptions
That hip rocking is noticeable on the road. Will be much harder to ride on a painted straight line. The hip rocking moves the bike side to side. For me I also notice I'm too high when I start gravitating towards the nose and it becomes more uncomfortable. Also neck, trap and more weight on hands.
i do this too, but it absolutely kills my right hip for some reason and i end up really a-symetric! move saddle down, make sure its level nose to tip and im good to go.
That bike looks pretty damn good
Maybe try shorter cranks as well?
Still a lil bit unstable after the adjustments. Something needs to be done
It seems to me that at the end the saddle is still to high and the upper body position si completely wrong, he needs to raise the handlebar and/or to have a shorter stem (arms are too straight and he seats on the tip of the saddle)
I concur.
i think the saddle is too nose down also, he will be slipping forward and propping himself up. Lower saddle more and level it.
why do you fit him seated on the tip of the saddle?
I have a problem where I get saddles sores because my saddle height is too high (71.75 cm) but if I put my saddle low (71 cm), I get pain in my knees.
Have you try moving your saddle back and or your cleat back.
may i ask how much did he drop his saddle height?
thank you
Does a static bike fit on a trainer translate to the actual road?.
100% not!
Is it just me seeing this or his pelvis is rocking more on the after than the before?
Have to agree. Not seeing a flat pedal at bottom of stroke, but what do i know 😮
I drop heel only on 1 leg ..help lol
You can never really tell if it is a good bike fit or new position unless you spend hours on the bike and through the days after the adjustments. You may feel more comfortable in the moment just after the adjustments, but may feel weird and uncomfortable after spending hours on the bike. Not everyone responds positively to bike fit standards.
What if I get my saddle too low
Pain front of your knee.
You’ll feel it in the front of the knee cap on the back of the leg it’s being over extended. Side your foot is twisted one way or another. It’s really not that hard you just have to listen to your body.
I just go a new frame and my lats ach after a ride not during. Now it’s either I’m not used to the position or i need a longer stem or the bar needs to be set more level to give me just a little more reach. But with everything else being comfortable and I’m not pulling myself forward on the seat I’m going to give it a few weeks and see what happens.
And this is why I don’t think bike fits are needed for everyone. Generally 99%most people are pretty close and with a little bit of thought and patience you’ll get there.
This guy could have easily of sorted this issue out himself in secound looking in a mirror while on a trainer.
Bike is small for him.
Definitely
Size is perfect... it's 54size heat around 180cm
@@akhiltrandapuppi3864well somethings not right as there a yard of seat post sticking behind the rider they most definitely not seated optimally on that saddle even after the changes
Is having more heel drop during pedaling down normal? Tia!
No, the foot should be as close to flat as possible. To much heal down will cause Achilles problems on long rides and will twang calf’s if excessive. I suspect your cleats are too far forward on your shoes. Remember if you change the position of the cleats further back you’ll need to brig the saddle down a touch
Still too high
Sir you talk way too fast. I didn't understand anything.
Ahhhh the biggest pain in the arse on todays roads!
Lots of talk. Not much demonstration.
How tall that rider?
