    Whoot! Just today I was talking to a friend about buying an M2. I open up TH-cam, I see a new Bmw M2 review by you, I think 'what a coincidence'. I play the video, I hear my music!
    I think the universe is trying to tell me to get this car ;)

      TEN THIRTY ONE Agreed very heavily. They have lost touch with their core customer base looking for quality, pretty, light, fun RWD vehicles to drive. Let alone with a manual transmission. However the M2 shows they still have some sort of old R&D values.

    • @gummiesrule88
      @gummiesrule88 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      BMW did not make its reputation on "luxury cars." It made it on sport coupes. The M2 is small and tight enough to make me think of the E36 m3 most of all. That engine had decent low-end torque, which the E46 did not. The E46 was great fun to rev up, but the M2's curve is closer to the E36, just better. I like the old steering better, but as this review says, the M2's steering is not at all bad. The M3/4/5/6 all feel big. Powerful, but big. This car, although it is heavier than ideal, still feels small, and that's where BMW made its early mark. Money was not an issue for me, and I chose the M2 over the M4 after driving both. Then I put a Dinan P2 kit on it, and other mods, including a catted DP, a clutch pedal kit and a SSK. Great little car.

    You can actually turn off the rev match feature by turning off traction control

    • @arjuhama
      @arjuhama 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I wonder what BMW engineers were smoking when they came up with that one. If you mess up the downshift without traction control, it's all up to you to fix the chassis balance.

    • @javon6604
      @javon6604 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I agree with bmw. If you think you can rev match then you shouldn’t be relying on driver aids.

    • @arjuhama
      @arjuhama 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is still kind of a "con" for people trying to learn how to drive spiritedly.

    • @alkadraz61
      @alkadraz61 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You cant learn that with an M2 unless you want to crash.

    • @javon6604
      @javon6604 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      So seems no one on the internet knows how to drive without traction control 🤦🏽‍♂️. It’s hilarious because anyone trying to perfect heel and toe should probably learn car control without the aids but this is just my opinion.

  • @mazda_miata_
    @mazda_miata_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The M2 is basically the new E46 M3. Lightweight, rear wheel drive, coupe, not really big but not really small, not overpowered, sounds good, and available in manual. Yeah, the M4/M3 is available in a stick but the thing is a land yacht compared to the E46 M3 and M2

    Definitely liking this style of review, David! You should do some normal "Hey this is the 2018 (insert car here)" type of reviews every once in a while. Love all your videos, but it would be cool to incorporate your review style and personality into new, stock performance cars from the manufacturers.

    In my eyes, the 1-series coupe is a modern E30 while the new 2 series is a modern E36 or E46. In terms of size it fits right between those two and the shape of it really reminds me of the E46.

  • @aaronfrench8322

    Actually you can turn off rev matching in the car. You have to turn off all the driver aids (stability control). So if you hold the traction control button down for long enough, then it fully defeats the stability control and with that it turns off the auto rev matching.

    I'm with +Jax in the sense that I enjoy seeing you do a "regular" car review, but I encourage you to explore other avenues. I hate to be the guy that recommends following trends, but this is a business, David... Start a project. Do the work yourself (if I can you can too). People like progress, they like seeing money that isn't theirs roll in. There's nothing wrong with the regular car review but you have to add something else in. Your heart is in the best place possible and I really can't say that about 90% of TH-camrs but I think you can make that your advantage. Look at Adam... Most of his most popular videos are about the projects he's working on (aside from the silly clickbait peanut butter video ;) ). David, you belong in this community and we WANT you in this community - learn to fit the mold until you move on to greater things.

    3500lb is an issue I can't overlook. Engineers can employ lots of technological counter measures to control it, but physics does not bend, not even for Germans. Power is only as effective as the weight it's physically pushing around, and although it feels nimble that WEIGHT always comes into play eventually. That's 9.58lbs. per HP, and to put that into perspective a 2017 Corvette is 7.45lbs. per HP with equal relative torque. 0-60 3.6 sec. My 1980lbs, 330 hp turbo Datsun 510 is 6.0lbs. per hp, 0-60 3.4 sec. Real performance is matter of physics.

    maybe I'm just an old stiff, but I can't get used to the idea of engine/exhaust noise being pumped into the cabin via speakers. It just seems so ricey. Like fake BOV flutters. Just get a louder exhaust, what's wrong with the engine's natural noise anyway. Too much luxury/performance intrusion

      Jaytionary debatable, the E92 is a big lumbering cruiser. They focused more on luxury and shit then actual driving experience. The E46 is raw

      The point he was making was when the e30 M3 was released in 1988 is was like no other car out there. It was fast, it handled. It brought a true driving experience that the market was lacking and that's what he is comparing the M2 to. It's a refresher, it's a sports car. It's a sheer driving pleasure.
