Love watching people clean bikes, hate doing it myself!! You may or may not be aware but the best way to apply XCP rust blocker is with a compressor gun. About this time, I get a local guy to do it for me. Costs some money but well worth it. It gets in all the nooks and crannies and all you have to do is rinse with cold water after your winter rides. Great video. Take care.
@@ontheroadadventure Yes, he does that as well on the exposed engine bits and the paintwork. I don't mind the residue as long as it protects during winter.
Reminds me when I used to look after my little moped as a kid.A Puch.So good to see someone work on a motorbike with care. You have done this before and you used a vernia for measuring.
Looks like you two are biking SOUL MATES...RIDING TOGETHER..CLEANING BIKES TOGETHER!..I can see you both riding toward the final sunset,in formation...good luck to you both..reminds me of wife and self...👍♥️👌🏻
Good stuff, I had a chain driven bike until early summer before going back to a shaft drive. I don’t miss the cleaning but that is the most important task in maintaining it. People talk about the chain stretching but of course it doesn’t, it gets longer and looser because of wear on the joints caused by dirt and grime working its way in and wearing it down. I used to clean my chain very regularly, too regularly some would say but the result was in 5000 miles never adjusted it once.
I like having the Gold Chain as i can see when its dirty and needs to be cleaned, I do mine most times i clean the bike.... Which is allot more often than most.... Im a bit sad like that, I cant stand a dirty bike, It looks like i have no pride in my machine or that is not loved...
Rich, been using LOMO's myself. Suggestion; to give the front crash bar bags shape when they're not stuffed full, 5 litre white plastic containers (the type you get white spirit in) with the tops cut off, fit absolutely perfectly, work a treat and make the bags look better too and can be easily removed for uses such as changing oil etc. I line my rear Lomo's with carry mat, which can be used for a thousand things and again gives some shape. Thanks for the channel and ride safe both. Cheers Wayne
Whilst on a couple more suggestions...Redverz make great purpose built tents for riders; not the cheapest but great! And if you are on campsites a 1kw electric fan heater and zip your sleeping bags together is what we do. Again atb. Wayne
I have to congratulate you both on that great series, I just finished a 4 day moto camping tour around Ireland which is my own country and the last night I just couldn’t be bothered putting up the tent agin so I booked a Glamping Pod the idea of sleeping on an inflatable pillow one more night was to much 😂, to think of what ye done over the last few weeks is unbelievable I really don’t think I could of done it. Really enjoyed ever episode can’t wait to see what’s to come .
Thanks so much, after a couple months sleeping outside you get used to it but those blow up pillows are crap! We have thermarest down pillows that are far better than the blow up ones and are well worth the extra space they take up
Another great episode, with great advice. Ive been same as you that I always looked after my own bikes. I just hope that more companies see your channel and give you loads of support. Especially with that lose helmet. Looking forward to your next adventure.
plus one for the lomo bags, a lot cheaper than the givi ones i have, even thou they are exactly the same, i cut a 5 ltr bottle and put that in each bag as it will save sharper things like tools from damaging the bottom, also helps to keep the shape when half full.
I’ve the same Lomo crash bar bags on my bike, waterproofs in one side. Dropped the bike a couple months ago and like you say, no harm no foul. Great product especially for the money.

Well done Rich, good going. Can I advise that you wear nitrile gloves and maybe protect the swinging arm with a piece of cardboard when using a grinder close to parts. (like you I learned as a youngster) I use XPC stuff, it's very good.
You say you're not a mechanic, Rich, but you certainly know your way around the bikes. Great video and I couldn't agree more you need to keep an eye on quite a few parts of a bike 😀
Thanks bud, I guess motorcycles have been my obsession since a teenager, I enjoy the whole thing of owning a bike, cleaning and maintaining is all part of it for me, nothing I hate more than paying a dealer to do work on my bike I can do myself…
@ontheroadadventure I know what you mean, for me it's been needs must in the past, I had my old Gsxr1100 completely apart including the engine and rebuilt it. Started first time too, with a load of random new parts. I find it very satisfying
You know what I hate doing? Washing bikes! Mine is filthy. But great tip Rich, I will be getting my leaf blower on it next wash, how did I not think of that? Cheers m8.
Always nice to get the bikes clean and tidy after a tour. Unless you didn't show us the brutal bit, that front sprocket nut came off nice and easily. I had a right battle with mine and ended up using a massive impact driver to get it loose. I recently rescued a lad on the Honda 125 with a chain that had come off the sprocket. Typically, even with my expanded tool kit I was one spanner short of being able to get the axle loose, so we walked the chain back onto the sprocket, and I told him to get it done as soon as he finished work.... as you say, nobody had told him the chain should be cleaned, lubed and adjusted from time to time.
Front Sprocket was no trouble on this one this time, but yeah they can be a bugger! We had a similar situation in Dorset on one of the videos, Young lads chain came off and ive never seen a bike in such a poorly maintained State. The Availability of financed new bikes for 2k means that they never do what we did.... Buy what you could afford and keep fixing it and learning just to keep it on the road. Those skills come in handy later
Regularly see youths on 125s and noticed the chain is flailing around whilst following. I don’t think some of them are aware of maintenance perhaps no dads to teach like lucky me
I find, no one really checks the air pressures on the tires, every other day. On the Wing, & trailer, On every second day, I check the pressures. you can lose, up to 4 lbs. per tire, depending on road Temperatures. and conditions of the roads (potholes and bumps). (14:45) I don't know if that matters but, buy the picture. the nut on the chain adjuster is backwards. Does it matter?, it looks like it concaves inward, and the bolt spot is facing outward. @ (16:21) you can see, the chain adjuster bolt, is over hanging the nut
You should have a look at the Lomo bags for on the back. they do a couple of types of drybag that have fixings that can let you mount them like you want if you decide to not just go for the soft paniers. if you get a chance the Glasgow head office/show/shop room has them all on display.
Hello Rich, cleaning is king as first defence and to give you confidence with your bike(s), just one tiny observation, using the vernier on the bent over (master link) chain roller is sensible, but did you also check the distance of the side plates compared to the OEM side plates? Can't be too tight or too loose... Love you bye...
At 16:08 on the video you were measuring the compression on the "rivets" on the link pin. What exactly and how were you measuring please, as I understand the compression of the link pins is very important. I'm a fan of XCP Clearcoat. I suggest using the total blocker on hard to reach places such as inside the swinging arm, etc.
A good measure guide is to press them until they are 2mm larger than before the pins were pressed. I expect you can find exact measurements for your bike and chain online
Enjoying your content, I’m an Eva as well, just slightly different (none Polish?) spelling 😇 I tend to use liberal amounts of WD40 after washing my bike, over the years it seems to keep the rust away 👍🏻👍🏻 Fortunate to live in Scotland, so we have some fab roads up here.
Hello Ewa! Yes WD40 is the old tried and tested method for keeping rust at bay, and it makes plastics look nice and black again too. We really want to come up and tour scotland soon, Such a stunning place to ride
XCP products are excellent as are your videos both of you. Which site can you recommend for the LOMO bags please. Amazon are about a tenner more. Thanks again and keep up the fantastic work. 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Be careful with the Lomo bags, the protective pad on the back of them is quite rough and it rubbed the paint off my crash bars. I ended up putting some foam pipe insulation between the bags and the crash bars.
I am a diyer too and it’s refreshing to see someone doing exactly what I would be doing. I was interested to see how easy the rear wheel cleaned up with chain spray. Our bikes are always ceramic coated, I will coat each spoke individually when I get any bike it’s my first job. I like to keep them nice if I can. We been so busy lately with TH-cam the wedding hasn’t had a chance for a plan yet!!
I only bought new twice and each time i thought it was not worth it. Mainly for me because i do so many miles, the servicing costs in two years a t dealer to keep the warranty costs me a fortune!! Thats why i bought my Twin used
Just to let you both know, there is currently lots of videos on You Tube for the 80th anniversary of Arnhem this weekend. Look out for the one with Princess Anne, it has all the Dutch children placing a flower on each grave. This was one of the things you mentioned whilst at the Oosterbeek cemetery.
What to do after the tour is over....?? Bloody good question, and one I'm struggling with at the mo. After 7 weeks in Norway. When you get the answer let us know 😁😁
So when is the camping and meet up? Looking fwd to meeting up with loads of like minded people. Will it be this year before we lose the warmish weather??
We did have a plan to do it this year, but the two places we had in mind couldnt do it and we want to do it properly or not at all so we are going to plan something good for next year when more people will want to come in the good weather... Its going to get cold camping now...

As you rightly say, look after your bike and it will look after you - but sadly my 2016 mighty Africa Twin died a few days ago - lower balancer shaft bearing shat itself without warning and spread bearing metal all thru the engine and transmission.. 15k miles. Oil changes every 3k since new. its in bits all over my garage floor, and likely to stay that way. 😞 I guess my AT fix will have to be via you guys totally now!
Oh mate that sucks! Only 15k miles too that’s like brand new! Ours has many more miles than that and ewas is 2023! Gutted for you. What you are you going to get next?
@@ontheroadadventure Hopefully a used good condition cheap AT engine lol ! Not giving up on it yet, to much invested in it to let go without a fight 💪 (being a mechanic kinda helps as well)
I had a tiger 900 gt pro, the chain snapped and smashed the engine casing. It was a write off as dealers didn’t want to put a new engine in without a mental price likely to put me off fixing it for fears the ECU may not accept the engine 🤷♂️ It was scrap in less than one year 22k miles
I used their XCP chain lube before. Good stuff not the cheapest. Halfords sales the XCP stuff If I correct. Not tried any of their other stuff. I stick with oxford mint stuff for now. I try and do alot myself but anything more advanced I take my bike to the garage. Only because I don’t have garage at homr plus also no time to do it myself.
Random question: How are you getting on with the Auxbeam lights? I'm after a set of lights for a Beemer I have just bought. Denali's and the like are way out of my budget but the Auxbeam range look to do the job perfectly.
@@ontheroadadventure Brilliant, that's exactly what I wanted to know, thanks. It's all well and good having an IP68 light, but if you don't match that to an IP68 switch, then ...... I can put a switch circuit together myself and found Wilderness Lighting at the Adventure show, their units use A rated LED's, so I think I'll go back to that plan.
@@ontheroadadventure He was a cricketer, therefor he had an arm that would swing (to swing the ball). You had mentioned the 'swinging arm' during the maintenance of your bike...a bad dad joke tbh.
I cleaned it up and put new gasket sealant around the leaking part on the front of the engine and now it’s minimal so I’m not too concerned about it, it’s not great though from a build quality point of view, I mean ewas is a 2023 and already had the same fault repaired in year one… Not what we come to expect from a Honda…
what do you do, when the touring is over? Hummmmm? get on a Plane and enjoy the warm temps of Florida USA. Beaches, Fine dining, we start camping soon. Florida has a lot to offer.
We began watching a TH-camr crossing the states yesterday, it looks interesting and something im sure we will do in the future, Seems getting the time of year right is critical though, the weather was terrible for this one with really high winds
I need more Euro days to ride down there and back, plus its a gamble on the weather now to get there... We will do Morocco and More of Africa though, its only a matter of time...

@@ontheroadadventureit's ok, it's my own fault cos I'm a bit of an old lazy bastid ( the little known wu tang clan member) still haven't got used to making my own coffee or getting my own facebook account (piggy back on My Lovely Wife's) 😸🍻🏍️💨💨💨
Hey Rich where d'you buy that chain and sprockets kit from?
Ordered online, look through and check the seller to make sure it’s a proper bike shop your buying from
Honda quality, gone down hill a bit switch gear from the seventys🦧
Sadly we have to agree, we have had more of the common issues than we would have liked on these twins, but nothing catastrophic
@@ontheroadadventure😢sorry for you buddy
Fab video but noticed when you put your chain on you didn't wind your chain tensioner back 😢
Don’t worry I adjusted it all up correctly, I didn’t film the whole job as I didn’t want to make a how to video
I have found that the rust blocker stuff is indeed leaving a sticky layer on the bike which is not ideal as the dirt sticks to it
@@ontheroadadventure Like the ACF50 Stuff.
Yeah same result
New helmet
Sorted now 👍 They will be in action as soon as our Chin mounts arrive
Ohh stop showing me that lovely givi maxxia top box...I know I'll end up buying one!!!
It’s not a bad looking box, we would rather a nice set of Mosko bags though!
I,ve been looking at the mosko bags for GT pro 900 for when I ship the bike to the USA next year for a few months but still undecided
Random question: How are you getting on with the Auxbeam lights? I'm after a set of lights for a Beemer I have just bought. Denali's and the like are way out of my budget but the Auxbeam range look to do the job perfectly.
They have been ok BUT sometimes when it rains the switch doesn’t work and the lights change modes alone. I wouldn’t buy them again personally
No problem 👍
Ian Botham had a 'swinging arm' but it never went rusty...
Sorry mate, that one’s lost on me 🤷♂️
@@ontheroadadventure He was a cricketer, therefor he had an arm that would swing (to swing the ball). You had mentioned the 'swinging arm' during the maintenance of your bike...a bad dad joke tbh.
You left me stumped on that cricket joke…
@@ontheroadadventureyeah, I had to bale out too…😇
As Trigger would have said: "Look after your bike"
👍👍
How did you go on with the oil leak
I cleaned it up and put new gasket sealant around the leaking part on the front of the engine and now it’s minimal so I’m not too concerned about it, it’s not great though from a build quality point of view, I mean ewas is a 2023 and already had the same fault repaired in year one… Not what we come to expect from a Honda…
Hopefully you don't water pump issues that is a poor design from honda.
Not heard of that one! Let’s hope not!
what do you do, when the touring is over? Hummmmm? get on a Plane and enjoy the warm temps of Florida USA. Beaches, Fine dining, we start camping soon. Florida has a lot to offer.
We began watching a TH-camr crossing the states yesterday, it looks interesting and something im sure we will do in the future, Seems getting the time of year right is critical though, the weather was terrible for this one with really high winds
rich have the same chain great low matenience
I like the gold ones as I can see I have cleaned it properly
Unlike another biking TH-camr (posh and ‘cool’) you didn’t wear marigolds….good on you Rich
🤣🤣 We know what your getting at here… This is a man’s job 😉
@@ontheroadadventure Does he wear skinny jeans and says chaps and Blighty a lot?😂😂
Frank Spencer 🤭 Our guilty pleasure 😉🤣
Honda quality really gone downhill! Go to morocco next. Promise it will blow your minds! And no eu visa needed
I need more Euro days to ride down there and back, plus its a gamble on the weather now to get there... We will do Morocco and More of Africa though, its only a matter of time...
Get a BMW and save yourself a day with a chain 😂😂😂😂😂
Yea and be stranded with electrical gremlins or wait for the shaft bearings and seal to fail
It would be nice to have a shaft drive but options are limited… don’t fancy a GS yet
Their reliability reputation has taken a hit the last few years eh
