  • This week, I'm throwing and trimming a simple, narrow porcelain vase from about 900 grams, (2 lbs), of silky smooth porcelain. I'm also testing some new audio settings in this video so please let me know what you think! (Previously, sentences that began with 'B' and 'P' and other such harsh consonants were being muffled occasionally).
And lastly! Next Sunday I won't be uploading my usual video, instead, I'll be uploading a special announcement film on the Monday. (13 February 7:00pm GMT).
    Now, onto the tools:
    • Here's Jaejun Lee's website: www.leejaejun.com
    • The spinner I use, made by Richard Carter: / richardcarter6952 , if you DM him he'll sell you one!
    • Bison tools are harder to get... his Facebook page provides some details about getting in touch: / bisontools
    • Spencer Penn's Instagram can be found here: / penncerameg
    Timecodes:
    0:00 - Introduction
    0:12 - Preparing porcelain, 900 gram lumps, 2 lbs
    2:01 - Throwing the vase

At the end I couldn't even tell the piece was still spinning, no undulations or imperfections. Your work is incredible

I find it funny that you say those of us across the pond don't have to convert the weight. Because every time I watch a craftperson that uses the metric system I have to convert those weights if I want any idea of how big a piece is. I can't tell you how many times I've sat here with my Metric to Imperial converter to figure out what weight or size of things you guys are making! 🤣😂

Thank you for this very explicit video! Porcelain is kind of difficult to work with, but you make it look so easy 😃!

Don't worry about the wheel's sound, it is not intrusive at all and even if it can be heard, feels to me like white noise. You only notice it once you mentioned it. Keeping an eye for that announcement !

The fastest 16:22 of my life! Couldn't look away once. I bought my very first box of porcelain last week, and am so excited to try throwing with it. Thanks for another great video!

I can't point out what exactly it is that you changed in the voiceover, but here's my experience with it :
Usually, i religiously watch your video when you release it on sunday. Then I run some randomly during the week because your voiceovers have the magical effect to help me fall asleep (I know it might sound like a bad thing, but I assure you it's the best thing). And... it doesn't work with this one 😄
Beside this, very good video like always 👍

Can't wait for the announcement!!! And the new audio sounds great. Admire you being able to work with porcelain so confidently. I think it'll be many years before I'm brave enough to try it but it's lovely watching someone who knows what they're doing.

your pieces always amaze me, im studying art in college and i have a class where we work with sculpting clay, but I wish we had access to potter's wheels too. I only got to try using those once when I was like ten years old and it was so much fun!! Hope I can get something from your shop in your next restock :>

I hope you're able to try it again - it's a wonderful process, but as it hand building, sculpting and other methods. Thanks so much for watching!

If you are having a problem with clay being a little stiff I learned a great tip from Bill VanGilder’s TH-cam channel. Have your clay in a bag or wrapped in plastic if you drop from waste high about 4 times it usually becomes soft again and then it becomes easier to wedge and saves your wrists. Bill does a better job explaining it something to do with clay manufacturers add something to clay to help absorb water and it breaks when you drop the clay releasing the water. Anyway it may help.

    The audio is much clearer.
(But I prefer the previous version, I find it much more soothing, I find the slight crackle and buzz in the audio calming)

Know nothing about pottery but this is strangely satisfying lol. How difficult is this? Is this like me watching a professional play sports or is this something a noob realistically could do.
    Thanks !

Voiceover has an eq setting that makes it sound too crunchy. Too much upper midrange? (I would venture to opine that it might not be relaxing to a certain segment of your audience!) I would have a studio engineer weigh in...
    Otherwise, beautiful video.

I don't know what it is but in this video it sounds like the voiceover is overemphasized almost as if you are forcing what you want to say

I use both! But there’s something so useful about a pound weight as a potter… yet, I entirely agree!
