    The one about Chernobyl broke my heart. I was born in 1985 in Poland and after the nuclear plant has blown up all children would receive potassium iodide to protect us from absorbing radiation. 💔 RIP

      It was so horrifying. I'm surprised people dont talk about it more. I was suprised no one was talking about it after Fukashima's plant melted down. I dont understand why governments think not being honest is going to be helpful. I hope the potassium iodide helped.

    Side note: my great grandfather’s name was Metzger and he received an award during the war. (I have no idea how to take that). The one about Mr Metzger really is scary because people tend to forget old people are not just in retirement and docile. Old people are just as capable of being sharp and having a violent history as anyone.

      It’s very true and typically they don’t want violence anymore so they don’t appreciate when it’s forced back on them in the form of defending themselves I really felt bad for him. If the man really did serve in Vietnam then that’s just wicked. Getting ganked in the jungle was their biggest fear and now he’s dealing with it in his own home on his own soil. That’s sad

    My mother was born in Pripjat and lived there until she was 12
    Basically she had told me the same thing about the catastrophy (not the kids-dying-in-real-time, they had been evacuated for "a few days" that turned into forever)
    A few years ago a meteor hit Denmark and we saw a flash of blue when it happened from where we live now. Needless to say she was a little freaked out.
    Also I used to complain when I was a kid why every time we would go on a school trip she'd basically pack a full survival kit that could last me a month (hyperbolic statement here), but I geuss that makes a lot of sense given where she came from

  • @dutch4973
    @dutch4973 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I researched ‘the King in Yellow’ and it turns out that the original version is a play script (which bears the curse in the 2nd act) and is impossible to find if you’re not in “the right circles”. I couldn’t even find the second act on the internet, no one knows or has posted the full play only brief phrases of the first act. It’s a complete mystery as to what the second act contains. Apparently an effort to destroy all copies when found was started after reports of violence and madness would increase in town that the script was in. The play script appeared in Paris first but it’s unknown where it originally came from since it was translated into French, then copies of the script spread from country to country. An American author wrote a book under the same name where he talks about the first part of the play in brief detail and gives short quotes from the original play, and gives no direct quotes from the second act (which drives one into madness) only describing it as addicting and powerful and dark. He didn’t want to read the second act, and after completing the first act he threw his copy of the text into his fireplace but the way the script landed exposed the page which contained the forbidden act which enthralled him to rescue the copy from the flame and obsessed him to reread it many many times. Very interesting indeed... It is believed that a single copy resides somewhere in America or Brazil, but this theory is based on whispers of rumors. The King in Yellow is known as being the forbidden play.

    The first one; guy sees something that looks like human ears and calls out to his "buddies": "Guys, we gotta get out of here." He hears them running out of the house already without either of them saying anything to him. Yeah, real good buddies. 😩

    Story 3 was by far the most philosophical I've ever heard to think about cosmic inherent indifference of the universe is just so deep to me as an 18 year old growing up and just lost my mother about several months ago.

      Most of it was stolen from true detective season 1 from matthew mcconaugheys character named....rust cohle. Seriously search rust cohle and watch the clips.

    In the sixth story I thought the teacher was trying to sacrifice them, not save their souls 😂😂

      Yeah, I don't get why he said that the teacher saved them. He chanted as the growling intensified. The growling stopped when they broke him out of the trance. Sounds like he was the one causing it.

    Ok so the fire in the school story with the janitor dying I thought that it was going to be a stupid "Freddy Kruger" rehash. I'm glad it didn't turn out that way because I was going to call BULLSHIT on that story. A lot of the stories Let's Read tells include the sentence "and it still haunts me to this day". It annoys me to the max! So many stories seem so fake because of the writing style. I love the narrator. So very much. His voice is amazing. However, some of the story writing is getting so English-class story writing based that I can't help but laugh.

    I was a foster kid. Finally adopted by a blind family member. Started a new school and was texted by a teacher on my second day he sent hundreds of texts and videos... and he was arrested and on the news... What a hard time that was.
