    English has a more rigid grammar system than Chinese, so the former is much more friendly for natural language processing programs. As a result, machine translation from English to Chinese works much better than the other way around.

    I have bought a ticket at a train station speaking very little chinese as well, it's not too difficult. In bigger cities (even Tianjin) some people speak English but you can also use youdao to tell them where you want to do if worse comes to worst. Don't be scared. :)

    • @brianplum1825
      @brianplum1825 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      ha, Tianjin is supposed to be a big city like Shanghai.

    • @lejaders
      @lejaders 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In what world?

    • @brianplum1825
      @brianplum1825 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the PRC world -- Tianjin is one of the four "municipalities" directly run by the central government along with Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing.

    • @lejaders
      @lejaders 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some vast differences. Shanghai has a population almost double that of Tianjin, and also it's far easier to get by in Shanghai on minimal Chinese skills as a lot of people seem to speak a little English.

    • @brianplum1825
      @brianplum1825 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's all true, but they're relatively recent developments that you're noticing. Tianjin was historically a big city comparable to Shanghai in importance. It was a large port city and a gateway into the Capitol of Beijing.
      Shanghai has pulled ahead of Tianjin over the last few decades because it grew bigger and faster than Tianjin. Heck, even Shenzhen has become bigger than Tianjin and Shenzhen was just a quiet village town across the border of Hong Kong forty years ago

    I had to stop your video in the middle. Because of what you said about the weather. Those questions are not stupid as someone who travels a lot. Because I will say that someone who is experiencing weather in Shanghai can tell you oh it gets cold you will need this and that from their own experience.
