Can you guess what the number one thing you need to become fluent is?
I don’t think there is a silver bullet here. This is a complex problem that requires a multifaceted solution.
You are absolutely correct. You don't need just one thing but this is the number one thing you need. Without this one thing all the other things will not get you very far. Does that make sense to you?
@@EnglishCoach3Ts In my experience, learning any foreign language involves developing four key skills:
Grammar and writing
Vocabulary and reading comprehension
Listening comprehension
Speaking
All four of these skills are essential, and without any one of them, your language proficiency will be incomplete.
However, if you insist that I choose one skill as the most important, it would depend on my goals. If I needed to be able to speak a lot and fluently, then I would focus on speaking. If I needed to be able to watch TV all day, then I would focus on listening. If I needed to be able to do a lot of work in a library with books, then I would focus on reading.
Did you watch the video? I am not saying choose one skill. I am saying that working on these skills won't get you to fluency if you don't have the number 1 thing! Does that help you to understand what I am saying? If you watch the video and still have thoughts or questions, let me know. 😊
@@EnglishCoach3Ts My dearest coach,
I understand what you are saying in your videos. I do not need to revisit your videos. We simply have different perspectives on the issue. You said that it all comes down to consistency and perseverance. Let me try to explain. For me, this is a non-issue. Why? I have studied many different sciences at three universities, and I am currently proficient in five modern languages and three ancient languages. My goal is to write three popular science books, which is what I am currently working on. Therefore, words like “consistency” and “perseverance” do not exist for me. For me, it is a way of life.
Secondly, there are times when you need to choose what is more important. For example, if I say, “Ann, you are as lovely as a spring rose,” or if I say, “Faire Ann, thou art as sweet as a spring rose.” Do you feel the difference? The first example is modern English, while the second example is Middle English. If I were to say the second example and call myself William Shakespeare, Ann would call the psychiatric ambulance to take me away. Therefore, only “grammar” and “reading” apply to the second example. “Speaking” does not apply. This is what I meant. I offer my deepest apologies for the misunderstanding. And thank you for the great video as always.
Dear Tanya,
Today you look beyond compare. Cheerful, fresh and young. Out of this world. It makes me happy to see you this way. No single person can know everything. I hope there is no such a hardheaded wiseman in our midst. What is a backbone for learning foreign languages to me? Well, when I was a little boy of six, my parents brought me a big map of the world. So, I found out that there are many nations and many languages in the world. Later on, I read a book, where I saw a little English girl of six too, with red spots on her face. It was smallpox. I felt a strong desire to befriend her and somehow ease her suffering. That’s how I began to learn English. To me, every language is not simply a code for transmitting information. Each language has undergone an evolution spanning thousands of years, and that is precisely why it is a cultural code of the nation, its soul, its heart, its history and its mentality. I enjoy learning languages because I like exploring the world and the culture of other people. Someone said that the number of foreign languages you know is the number of times you are a human being. And that is absolutely true.
Very insightful and beautiful. It seems to me that it is something you really enjoy and that makes a huge difference!
Hello Tanya, it's me again.

I think the most importante thing is consume all you can in English, I mean, videos, films, books, etc.
The desire to want to speak it, I think it's the most important. Hi, Tanya, good to hear you again.
This is such an important thing and I talk a little about why we are learning English as part of the number one thing. Did you hear that part?
Yes, Tanya, but I think the desire it's the back bone where derived from whatever you can say: consistensy, confidence or a reason to travel, etc.. if you don't have the desire ...you're wasting your time. The will is the motor for everything.@@EnglishCoach3Ts

To be honest I do learning english Maam, because I am poor verbal communication to my co-workers mostly American and British. Sometime I am to quiet too shy with them. I cannot interfer with thier talks because I am not confident for pronouciation and getting nervous.
The one thing I talk about in the video will help with that along with other tools mentioned by me and other students. I know you can become more courageous and confident! Keep working on it!

Speaking
Speaking is so important and you need it WITH the number one thing! Did you find out what the number one thing is?
Shallow repeating
Great guess! Repeating what the speaker says, copying them, is a great way to learn but not the number one thing.
Pronunciation
Pronunciation is very important!

Dont translate....
Yes! Unless you want to be a translator, translating can slow us down!
