I'm from Ukraine. I always wanted to understand English-speaking people and be able to communicate with them freely without a language barrier. But I never thought that it was the war that would force us to leave our native country and we would find ourselves among English-speaking people. And now it’s very difficult because on the one hand there is a need to learn English, on the other hand the subconscious puts a block, because migrating because of the war and immediately plunging into another environment is a lot of stress, as if you have lost yourself and no longer understand who you are, what real life before or after. And you feel this big load, under which you not only bend, but break you, but you understand that this block needs to be overcome, but you have no moral strength. I found your channel by accident and enjoy listening to you. Perhaps there is hope to move this block. Thank you so much

I have been studied english for many many many years, but I have never been fluent. I can write (and I make many mistakes), I can read and I can speak (not so good), but i can not hear, I can not understand people. I am living in Ireland since February/2023 with my Husband. We met themselves when he lived in Brazil. Now I am working in a hotel closer to my home and I am having so many problems because I can't understand my colleagues, my boss and I am always afraid to talk to the guests. Me and my husband go to restaurants, pubs, supermarkets, many places and in many occasions I am not able to understand people. Well, I know the Irishes ascents are so complicated, but day after day i am getting afraid do not learn English. At home we watch TV and i have many difficulties to understand the CNN news or movies and series on Netflix. I can understand a little better when we watch some news in a British English, but even though, it depends on the ascent. Actually I am a little unmotivated because I can not understand and communicate myself effectively with people.

I'm from Venezuela and I feel really happy because I understood absolutely everything. I think, part of that, was because you speak in a very neutral way, you don't rush or make use of slangs. I've been learning english on my own for years now, my biggest issue is when it comes to speaking since I don't practice enough and when I'm trying to speak about any topic, I just stop mid sentence or take me a lot to think of the next word to use. (I must admit it's because I'm used to translate from spanish to english and from english to spanish). This year I want to improve my english more so I'm happy I found your channel.

I certify what this nice lady is saying... Listening is key to learning a language, any language, but the listening comprehension must be 90 percent or more, otherwise, it is not as effective... It is not possible to learn chunks of the target language if comprehension is not there... Logically, real learning happens when portions or snippets of the language are understood previously in a natural and native-language-like way... If you don't have anybody around to speak to, no worries, keep listening to as much stuff in the target language as you can on a regular basis, as long as you understand up to 90 percent or more... You will be doing a lot by doing this. ... ... ... I am Arnold, a language coach.
It is possible to learn chunks of a language even if you don't understand it. I learn like that. Just high amount of repetitions of a set of words or a sentence. It doesn't have to be 90% of understanding. You always learn something if you want to even from completely not understandable material.
