    I enjoyed watching your video 😊
    I came to find a recipe to make for my 85 year old dad, who has a keto diet (no sugar).
    I added no sugar but reduced my tomatoes further which made it sweet.
    Dad is enjoying the ketchup 😊
    Thanks & much 💙 from Australia 🌏

    I made home-made ketchup many years ago when we first got married (46 years ago!). The recipe is called "Blender Ketchup". You've inspired me to dig out the recipe and try it again. 🍅🍅🍅 BTW, Mom taught me do "open-kettle" canning and I've done a lot of it.

Can I suggest that when you write your recipes for us that you put your logo as a header? I like to print recipes out and keep them in a binder and I especially like to know where or who created it for me to use. Thank you, Ruthanne, for this channel.

    Ketchup is a perfect example of open-kettle canning. We used to cover with towels and set the jars upside down after a few hours. Many Italians still use the open-kettle method for pasta sauce, salsas and bruschetta.

  • @rrjesuslovesu

    My mom-in-luv, showed me to use hot water about an inch or so in any type of pan with higher sides, and as we put the hot foods inside the containers, it would help to also seal the jars. So much easier. This looks even easier, Thk you. Also, here in Canada, Ketchup is very expensive…$5.99/bottle with inflation, but before even $3.98-$4.99. So again, Thk u!!!❤

    How did your family like this new recipe for ketchup? I am a fan of store bought as well and haven’t found a recipe that comes close as of yet…Thanks for sharing all the canning tips! I have learned a lot from watching you. I have been on this canning journey for two decades and have had my share of youtube time trying to find ways to preserve the food I grow…Last year I followed your directions and dry canned potatoes and we like those. This year I plan to make my pickles like you suggested so they stay crunchy.

    My grandfather also did open kettle canning but his method involved boiling the jars and lids so that they were also hot. He would take the hot jars and fill them with the hot food before putting the hot lids on top and turning the jars upside down. Rarely he would end up with a jar here or there that didn’t seal and he would either use that jar mediately or if there were a lot of them empty it back into the container that he was cooking in, bring it back up to a boil, and then wash and re-boil the jars and lids. Almost never did he have any failures after a second attempt to can them.

    • @sandrasprinkle9540
      @sandrasprinkle9540 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Your grandfathers method is what I was taught. Ive had a couple of jars that might not seal, I would use it or redo it. Ive never made ketchup because my husband and I dont care for it! I may try a small run for the grandkids when they come visit.

    • @annking1576
      @annking1576 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @balthizarlucienclan. Hi. The newer lids shouldn't be boiled as they're not made the same as they used to be ( they're using cheaper materials & sealing part isn't as great as it was - expect some jars to NOT seal - put those in fridge to use 1st). Wash & dry them & keep in hot water - not boiling

    I have had (still have) multiple 22 quart roasters and I LOVE THEM. I am curious though how you keep the acid from tomatoes and such from eating the finish in the roasting pan? Every one I’ve had ends up with the finish flaking off and I have to toss it and buy a new pan, but that gets expensive! Any tips?

    Other reasons to make your own ketchup: better variety of tomatoes, organic (not sprayed with chemicals) ingredients, no high fructose corn syrup, etc!
    My husband would say it’s not worth my time to make it when it’s so cheap at the store. But he doesn’t care as much about the quality & health values of his food as I do.
