My late wife Rainy's favorite classical piece of music. It brought her peace in her last days on earth. I'm sure that she is still listening to it in Heaven. Miss you honey.
I don't really like that the orchestra isn't more involved. I would go like full on Pathetique orchestration and have the orchestra convey everything the piano can and more. That is, if I was to orchestrate this sonata, which I probably wouldn't. I would probably keep it at Quartet and leave Piano -> Orchestra expansion for the likes of the Pathetique and Appassionata Sonatas.

My grand daughter will be born next mounth, in april 2021, and she will have the name "Luna" I am allready in love with her, every time I look to the moon I hear this beautiful music, Beethoven will guide her on her way in life. Greetings from the Netherlands
Make her listen to classical pieces in her early years so she would be able to appreciate real music. Another reason is for her to be capable in learning instruments quickly! Congratulations, by the way.
This is a beautiful orchestral adaptation of a phenomenal piano sonata. Beethoven was a very troubled man in his personal life, but his talent and abilities are unquestionable to this day. Many people consider his ninth symphony the greatest single achievement in the history of music.
After learning about Beethoven's life and leaning about when this music was created, I literally cried in my music classroom. The way Georgii plays this made me even more emotional. So beautiful, and I got goosebumps. Thank you for playing. I would love to see your concert in person one day. Cheers, xx
Congratulations not only to an excellent pianist, but to a master arranger! Others have tried to do orchestral arrangements of this piece for years - but this one captures both the original composer's essence and the orchestra's diversity of tone colors and articulations WITHOUT overshadowing or in any way overdoing sentimentality. Beethoven himself would have congratulated you on your exquisite taste and on its wise application to the infinitely diverse possibilities of musical interpretation!
I LOVE when that happens… and this piece and almost ALL of its renditions get me every time… a piece of music crammed FULL with emotion… so powerful, it will make you weep
I like how the piano is even in front of the conductor, as it highlights how central to the piece it is - the conductor follows the pianist, and the rest of the orchestra follows him. Beautiful
For most works consisting of piano and orchestra, those often known as piano concertos, the piano is always in front of the conductor. But importantly, the soloist in a concerto (violin, clarinet, flute, whichever) is always positioned next to the conductor instead of directly in front of them, so the pair can easily communicate during the performance. In the case of the pianist, this results in the piano being in front of the conductor.
I can't describe how 10:49 I'm feeling right now while enjoying all the wonderful selection in this concert. Mr. Cherkins, you are absolutely amazing. Please consider concer tour to USA. I love your music. Beethoven. Mozart or any classical composer. You are definitely the best.
Imagine being the pianist at this moment, the pressure to play perfectly, knowing that if you fumble, the entire rest of the orchestra will follow suit, the expectation to play with milimeter accuracy, especially during the third movement, is definitely enough to crush the piano itself. The weight of the Orchestra is entirely on the pianists shoulders
I always want to learn piano...and this give me more motivation than anything. I will understand music, feel beethoven emotions and try my best to pour in this moonlight sonata!!
It's an incredible creation! Or a credible enhancement of a celebrated sonata to a full concerto! Beethoven was arguably the greatest composer ever. Moonlight sonata is his masterpiece! Sounds grand with this orchestration! Thanks for the post. Jamshed Delvadavala from Mumbai.
