A330 based AEWAC would be in a different class than C295J. A330 is way more bigger so can have larger radar and can also act as refueller. But C295 is small and can accomodate Netra size radar without refueller.

The more the delay, the more frantic the user.The corrupt, who have fixed the commissions beforehand, are relaxed.Sooner or later, the desperate user will say "yes," the supplies and kickbacks kick in. Any wrongdoing will be first attributed to the man who said "yes" who is not in on the deal.. Since users are also savvy, a lot of arm-wrestling goes on- this is the reason for procurement delays.
I truly wish that we ramp up our acquisition of Tankers as well as AWACS. Both of them are strategically extremely important. We should go for C295s in a great number and get ToT and manufacture them in India, just like we manufacture Su30MKIs. The C295s can play a great role in replacing the An32 transport planes as well. Make an AWACS version of them, a tanker version of them, and the original military personnel transport version.
I do agree that we need more AWACS but unfortunately we don't. At the same time SU 30 MKI can be utilised as Mini AWACS provided our satellite/Ground Radar station detects movements in adverse position.
Indian Air Force is in a urgent need of AWACS and Aerial Tankers. For fulfilling both the requirement IAF have selected Airbus A330 but is unable to secure a deal for these platforms. Indian Airlines ( Air India) and Jet Airways both have a fleet of Airbus A330 or related aircrafts. IAF can take aircrafts from both the airlines either purchase them or take them on lease as both the airlines are grounded and after evaluating the airframes use the platform for AWACS and Aerial Tanker using conversion kits and induct these aircrafts in good number in a short period of time. It has been done earlier also when IAF took 2 Boeing 777-300ER from Indian Airlines (Air India) and now ready to use them as Air India One for Prime minister and President transport aircraft.

What is the exact payload capacity of tejas mk1?? Somewhere it is given 4300kgs whereas in HAL website it is given 5300kgs.
