Serious question: If filming the big games is a distraction, can't you re-create with still shots like the last part of this vlog? Your narration is strong enough to carry it through.
Yeah it's the note taking after filming that's more of a distraction and just feeling a little extra pressure. I really enjoy capturing sessions on video for the most part but sometimes it's nice to have a few less things to think about, especially after a big loss or in the midst of a downswing.
There is nothing wrong with dropping stakes after a big loss. More people need to do that. Nice to see you bounced back - and I would watch you play $1/$2 , it doesn't need to be $10/$20 all the time. If you can crush $2/$5 for a better winrate, that's what you should play. Also, this is what you do for a living, if filming is a distraction, then don't.
I would watch this channel at any stakes as well. Brad doesn't share his YT earnings - and I don't expect him to. But his income is absolutely a combination of both playing/filming and hopefully a decent amount from merch. If you're reading down this far Brad, keep up the hustle, another great vid.
Thanks, my win rate has actually been much better in high stakes this year than 2/5, even with the $10k loss, although small sample sizes at both stakes. The filming usually doesn't affect things much, and I enjoy it, but sometimes it's nice to take a break from it.
First, Brad, it's entertaining watching your progress. I'm reminded of some stories Dnegs tells about his early days, where he kept going broke, learning, and going back, gradually playing higher stakes, and learning from it. Every time you step up, whether it's cards, sports, music, or whatever, you find out what you're made of, and how much you want to run with the big dogs.
The difference in your attitude/emotions after the loss in this video compared to your losses in older videos is very clear. It’s nice watching you grow as a professional player. Well done
I just want to say that while high stakes does make for good content I think we all love your videos regardless of what stakes you play. Anyway, love your videos happy holidays!
Another great video Brad. I love the growth mindset. Taking a loss with grace and not losing your cool, staying focused on the fundamentals, solid advice in poker and life in general.
Ive watched all your videos now 4 times all the way through and im always excited when you put out new content. I just feel like your videos are simply the best we have out there right now. You should feel good doing this service to the poker community. Also the longer the video the better! Cheers from British Columbia Canada.
Thanks for the honesty and the inspiration, as always Brad. I went on a pretty good tear lately in 2/5 live and some online money finishes in pretty decent fields of players and a lot of that was due to you helping me rekindle some of the fire I had lost due to a long cold spell. I'm trending upward with your help and I've noticed you and I kind of approach the game in the same way, our inner monologue is very similar based on your comments on a per-hand basis in the vlog. Keep that run good going, catch you next week!
I've heard and read many vloggers talk about taking shots at higher stakes and dropping back down after big losses or some bad runs. Good to see you doing it too
The composure with which you take this loss versus your hands shaking as you took your chips to the table just a few months ago shows your growth and development. You're definitely on the right track, keep pushing, better things are ahead. Wish you the best.
Your TH-cam channel is fantastic. The best part is the times when you lose. It is a part of poker that a lot of people have trouble dealing with. It has also helped me greatly. Keep up the great work.
I've really enjoyed getting to see this side. I know you often say that IF you were to have a really bad game you'd tell us, and you did! You handled it really well.
Awesome stuff Brad, love to see you refocus yourself to recoup that big loss, shows amazing heart and the continuing growth of a great player! Keep it going!!
Thank you for all of your content Brad! I learned what poker ranges were by watching your channel! I initially learned how to play on Pokerist app so I obviously know jack squat haha. Your vids have taught me how to THINK like a poker player, rather than me just arbitrarily deciding that it is just simply unlikely that the other person has the EXACT hand that I am afraid will beat me in that moment. Please don't ever let up because your influence has reached all kinds of places! See you at Hustler in CA!
Thanks Brad for showing both the losses and wins. Some vloggers just focus on the wins. Yes, those are fun, but it is nice to see the other side of the coin. Keep up the good work.
Brad, thank you for your transparency and showing videos of where your game needs to improve. The majority of people always show videos of their “winnings”… no one really shows the reality of true gambling…
If the ecosystem has altered significantly from “pre” Euro travel restrictions to “post”…. Those “softer” games at $5/10+ may be more and more of a thing of the past. The skill edge (whatever that may be on avg) may begin to shrivel up a lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if that didn’t start to force a lot of people down in limits. I suspect that game selection will be more important than ever from here on out.
I don't play poker--at least not for any stakes. I found your channel a few months ago while in a bit of a mood downswing, and I've been hooked. What really keeps me coming back is how you manage the ups and downs of winning and losing, which in a way reminds me of how to manage my mood when things aren't going my way. This video is a prime example of that. Bravo to you, Brad, for keeping your cool--even getting motivated by the big loss to do even better later on. I think there's a major lesson to maintain that kind of growth mindset in anything, not just poker.
Love your honest portrayal of the poker lifestyle. Sometimes the greatest achievement is having the wherewithal to break even, and not spiral out of control. Did that, on a much smaller scale my last trip to Vegas - playing only tournaments, I started off right with a 4th place, followed by 6 misses in a row. Luckily finished with another 4th to recover my losses, at poker, slots, and table games. Sure, if one of the 4th's is a win, I finish way up. But can't be disappointed with breaking even.
Yea I’d like to see haters like Tuchman report on this epic comeback, but that wouldn’t support his narrative 😂 great job brad, and I too take days off after a loss
Played the $5-10 for the first time of my life and cant help but feel that these VLOG's have helped me get the confidence to do so. Got stuck 50% off rip in a sick cooler and clawed back to actually book a small win. Best of luck and keeping winning, buddy.
I somehow randomly stumbled upon one of these videos. Now I can't stop powering through them. Great content Brad! Im now a subscriber and very much look forward to following your success! Good Luck on the tables! And congrats on all the success you have seen thus far! You deserve it!
I personally enjoy watching $2/$5 games Brad! As a regular $1/$2 player who’s never played in $2/$5 it’s nice seeing clips of games in my bank role range.
I’ve never waited this hard for a video to drop on TH-cam! Please post as much as possible. I don’t care about the stakes, just watching your videos is so educational for me I can’t get enough! Keep it up my friend
Losing 20% of all the money you made from the previous year in a matter of five hours is brutal. With that said, to buy into a game for 1/3 of your profits from an entire year is flat out reckless. The hand where $2,500 is lost needlessly was a mistake, obviously, but shouldn't tilt you unless you're playing too high of stakes. The play that followed for the duration of the session could certainly be attributed to tilt. Important to recognize when that comes up and take a walk or quit for the day. When the table you're at starts regularly posting multiple straddles, its time to drop the ego, get up, and find a game better suited for your bankroll. Anyone that plays bigger than 2/5 knows the secret is to keep increasing the stakes through mandatory straddles and/or antes until your opponents become uncomfortable. You might think well I'm buying in with 500 bbs so no worries. Then, with a couple of slight alterations, your 500bb becomes the equivalent of 60bb
A lot of what you're saying are points based on assumptions of how much money you think I've won or how much you think I have. Poker isn't even my main source of income anymore so talking about losing 20% of what I made in the previous year isn't close to accurate. Implying that I've lost 1/3 of my income for the year is nonsensical and I wouldn't put myself in that kind of situation. Also, bankroll a term for people who are almost solely dependent on poker winnings in order to pay for their bills. I don't fit into that category. I can lose and have ways other than playing poker to get it back. I'm going to sit in games and try to make the best plays I can based on the information I have at the time. Sometimes they won't work out. It's very easy to focus on those in an attempt to make someone look bad, which appears to be your goal. My hourly is actually 5 times higher in high stakes games than it is in 2/5 this year. I'm going to continue taking shots when the games look good and even occasionally when that's not the case in order to improve. I understand how straddles work...
This was another great video Brad. I love how you plotted it out like an old MGM movie from the '40s: Boy buys chips. Boy loses chips. Boy gets chips back. It was a real pleasure to watch. Well done!
DUDE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MOVIE! What a roller coaster man. It's really cool to be a part of your journey, watching you rise through the ranks. I wanna see you on some tv final tables!
I’ve been watching your videos for a long time now and enjoy them greatly. Not only are they informational as a player stand point but it also gives a lot of insight as to how hard it is to maintain this kind of career. But I would really like to know where I can learn the ranges of other players hand relative to what position I am on the table. If u can steer me in the right direction I would appreciate it. But I got to say keep up the good content and I’m proud of u for not giving up on your poker career and sticking it through to make a massive comeback. Much luv bro
Thanks Mike. I'll address most of this stuff in future episodes. Nick Petrangelo has a course coming out for Upswing that I'm a small part of. The course will be out in January and it's going to be, in my opinion, the best material available.
Hey Brad, just wanted to say I really like your vids. I wasn't super into poker before (randomly stumbled across your channel) but I really like the logic behind the game now and how you explain your thinking style. Subbed!
Finally got a chance to watch the video, and I just wanted to say a few things. Good for you for going back out with confidence and setting a goal and achieving it. Always love watching the content!
I kept checking your channel for the most recenet video, and this one was definitely worth the wait. Well done Brad, super impressive! Your discipline is inspiring.
Brad to me the 2/5 vlogs aren't boring as that is the stakes I play. The higher stakes are great as well. With less aggression in the 2/5 streets one of my basic strategies is to take the low variance route with players that are playing their cards and higher variance with players that are playin their range and mine. Regardless of the content that you put out it is always amazing!! I'm also glad that you recouped in a short period of time!
Brad you are absolutely cracked! What a way to bounce back. I just recently had my worst losing session ever as well so this is motivational to get back at it and just keep playing good poker. Congrats on the bounce back!
You’re vlog is awesome. I haven’t played poker in awhile 10+ years. On a whim the day after thanksgiving I went to the hard rock hollywood for the series they have every year. Got into a small 300 player tournament And really surprised my self and finished 14th. I credit your vlog for giving me the courage to play like i did. Thank you for everything you do
Playing 2/5 is good for videos Brad. I come to watch you play poker. It's fun to watch you play bigger stakes for sure, because it's something I'll probably never play myself, but I enjoy watching you play. Mixed with your commentary, you make some of the most entertaining videos out there. So, don't be afraid to post a 2/5 game. I'm gonna watch it.
Not sure if you intended not to post the video until you made the money back. Very excited that you made it back so quickly. Love the videos Brad. Keep them coming.
Love the realistic insight you provide in being a professional poker player. It’s not all good runs, stacks of chips and ESPN tables. Poker is a tough mental game and very easy to get discouraged. Great job keeping your mental game sharp!
The Orleans is the only place I stay when I go to Vegas. I love their poker room and usually just play $2/$4 or $4/$8 limit. It’s great to see you venturing there to play more. It’s nice to see lesser known casinos getting featured in yours and other vloggers videos. Good luck wherever and whenever you play next.
I started enjoying watching poker after following Chris Momeymaker about 20 years ago and I like your style of making vids and the way you are playing. Keep it up Brad yall be doing good.
Brad, I join those who suggest vlogging your lower stakes games so you can have laser focus in high stakes. Your content is equally fantastic at the 1-2 or 2-5 as it is at the 5-10 / 10-20. Yes, it is great to be in for the full ride but as a viewer I appreciate you are doing a service by recording hands, taking notes and putting out video and I’d rather not be a distraction at your most pressure filed moments. There are lots of options in vlogs, online and on tv like poker go if people just want to see huge chip stacks in the thousands of dollars. What sets you apart is the quality of your poker analysis, honesty with viewer, and humor. Those will be present at a 1-2 game or 1000-2000 game vlog. Congrats on getting the 10K back so quickly.
My take is, Brad~ you are a poker player first and a TH-camr second. It is refreshing to see that you focused on playing! This episode is So inspiring! Cheerios!!
not collapsing after that big loss, and just crushing 2/5, is amazing.. seeing you eclipse 500k subs is also amazing.. along with a Half MILLION Views in just 5 days.. cant wait to see whats coming next.
Hey Brad--I'm not sure if you've been asked this before, but is there any chance you could put a clock of how long you've been playing into one of the corners of your videos? I think it would greatly help us understand the time and patience it takes to play a good session. When you condense hours of work down to 15-20 it's hard to get a good perspective. Thanks for all your help!
Brad! I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we don't mind 2/5 at all.
Well done!
Good job Brad, out of all the poker blogs I sure do enjoy yours the most!
DUDE THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MOVIE!
What a roller coaster man. It's really cool to be a part of your journey, watching you rise through the ranks. I wanna see you on some tv final tables!
Good on ya for sticking with it brad !!!! Love the vlogs !!!
You have gotten so much better at Poker since I first subbed to this channel years ago.
It’s fun to see how you enjoy the grind. Was clear for the back half of the episode.
Hey Brad, just wanted to say I really like your vids. I wasn't super into poker before (randomly stumbled across your channel) but I really like the logic behind the game now and how you explain your thinking style. Subbed!
I’ve started to like the videos before I even watch them now. Well done Brad, your mindset is fantastic
You’re seriously my motivation man, ive been learning so much watching your videos and doing way better !!
That's awesome, keep it up. Good luck to you.
what a rolercoaster of a video, Im happy for ya man, been following your channel for a while, and its very entertaining. Thank you!
Really impressive video in every way Brad! Your mindset has clearly gotten a lot stronger over the past few years.
Finally got a chance to watch the video, and I just wanted to say a few things. Good for you for going back out with confidence and setting a goal and achieving it. Always love watching the content!
Great video, I really like the sense of transparency an honesty of both results, emotions and mindsets !
I love it how everz title just gets better and better but its never a clickbait!❤️
I love that you show this video Brad, it hurts but that is the way of poker and love that you show it all at your vblog, keep the videos coming :)
Literally binge watched you yesterday and now a new up load 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Brad you are absolutely cracked! What a way to bounce back. I just recently had my worst losing session ever as well so this is motivational to get back at it and just keep playing good poker. Congrats on the bounce back!
Good luck getting it back Dylan
Really like how you show your ups and downs. Glad to see you bounce back!
That smile at 0:19 was so contagious. You can tell you love you what you do! Crazy you can keep such a good poker face haha
Love the honesty and commitment. That was an excellent response to the big loss. Well done.
Thank you for everything you do
Honestly, unreal that you bounced back so strong! I was so happy that you took a few days off and then went after it. Very well done!
I don’t even play poker outside of video game poker. This channel is captivating. Love it.
One of the reasons I respect u so much is u show ur big losses, and that’s not easy to do. Keep up the good work bro
I absolutely loved this video. It's amazing how I have the same bad reasoning and bad excuses when I tilt. I'm happy that you got off tilt quickly.
Thanks Brad for talking through your month and results. An honest look at the sessions
I started enjoying watching poker after following Chris Momeymaker about 20 years ago and I like your style of making vids and the way you are playing. Keep it up Brad yall be doing good.
So impressive to see such a strong return so quickly! You keep performing, vlog or no vlog - I'll be here to listen/watch what happens!
I just want my first local tournament and watching your videos for a week helped a lot! 👍👍
My take is, Brad~ you are a poker player first and a TH-camr second. It is refreshing to see that you focused on playing! This episode is So inspiring! Cheerios!!
Congrats Brad! Very proud of your focus to recoup that hammering.!!
Brad...No matter the stakes, winning is ALWAYS fun to watch....
Keep recording no matter what!!!!!
Love your videos, please continue to keep posting. I love your analysis of the game, and your video editing is easy to watch.
Great video brad I would watch any stake games you play just for your commentary and insight on the game keep it up!
That was fun to watch, I dig the way you pushed through, focused and recouped the 10k loss in 9 days. You are he man!
Great stuff Brad, love to see that you didn't chase and went back in with a good mindset and were able to recoup it.
not collapsing after that big loss, and just crushing 2/5, is amazing..
seeing you eclipse 500k subs is also amazing.. along with a Half MILLION Views in just 5 days..
cant wait to see whats coming next.
Hell yea!!! That’s what I love about poker. As long as you have a positive mindset, you can come back. Great job 👏
Thanks a lot man
Love the 2/5 videos youve helped my game tremendously bro
Hey Brad--I'm not sure if you've been asked this before, but is there any chance you could put a clock of how long you've been playing into one of the corners of your videos? I think it would greatly help us understand the time and patience it takes to play a good session. When you condense hours of work down to 15-20 it's hard to get a good perspective. Thanks for all your help!
Brad! I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that we don't mind 2/5 at all. Sure, seeing $320 straddles is exciting, but seeing you win medium sized pots, 1k wins, its still good content for us. A lot of us love your personality and narration, along with getting the chance to learn from you, regardless of the stakes you play in! Don't stress over it man
I appreciate that Aaron. It's just more fun for me personally to play and make videos of stakes above 2/5.
