Had a new 93 and 99 and many years later bought a used 2000. Really great all around bike that stood the test of time. Cheers.

Bought a nice 03 model a couple of weeks ago. Superb machine - quick, comfortable, light and cheap with the bonus that they're usually owned by older riders who don't thrash them mercilessly. Deeply unfashionable at the moment which suits me just fine. I've got a ZX6R and a GPZ500 and this fits nicely between the two.

Just purchased a beautiful 99, 71000k, amazingly rides and looks like a new bike, a 1 owner. I've had many named 'Fast' bikes', years back RZ500, RG500, lately YZF1000 Thunderace. This girl is right up there, 99% of Riders will never push this bike to his Capabilities. A LOT of bang for the Buck!. Hi from Australia, great presentation mate, just subscribed!

I had the 250 and the 600 back in the day. Both in candy red. Best bikes i ever had. I'm looking to get a Z650 now in covert green but part of me still would like to get a zzr600 as they are so cheap now.

I had an E10 (2002) model ZZR600 back in 2011-2012. It was one of the best bikes I owned and I've had a few different bikes over the years. I also owned a Honda Blackbird a few years later but must say I would prefer the ZZR600. With the ZZR600, on a long run I easily got 60mpg plus. I found the 600 better to ride than the Blackbird. The Blackbird was a beast but it was quite heavy and thirsty. The 600 makes more sense than the one litre plus machines.

Yes I owned a ZZR1200 at the same time as the 600 . Most of my riding is solo days out with minimal luggage so the 600 suited my riding better. The 1200 version is better at carrying passengers and luggage for long distance but I don't need that capability so a 600 is all I need.

I've just finished rebuilding my zzr600 thought I'd throw my 2 cents in, I went from a cg125 straight onto the zzr because I needed a bike that would do long journeys and boy does it unfortunately I had a bad experience with the gearbox being an utter wreck due to the previous owner but luckily the replacement part was plentiful and reasonably priced and as long as you follow the manual and use a bit of sense it's incredibly easy to work on (unless you HAVE to take the engine out then things get a bit...your experience may vary) a year on the cg then onto the zzr was surprisingly not as much of a struggle as I'd thought it would be just be aware it's heavier at the lights (not by much because of the low seat height) the brakes are generally REALLY good just be gentle same with the throttle as long as you keep it in the low revs it's not gonna disappear without you but be aware that around 4k+ there is a noticeable jump in power.
If long journeys are your thing I'd personally recommend a pretty tall tank bag to cushion your chest on as a half/full tuck is really the trick to getting the best out of this bike (personally once I hit the motorway provided there isn't a lot of traffic I rest my elbow on the tank and my head on my hand and the miles just tick by).
I have heard some criticism about the bike being a bit of a bear to handle and for me it was too for a little while until I realised as long as you keep your elbow below or in line with your wrist she flicks just as good as any other bike so I'd say the people complaining about handling either don't know that or are just trying to ride more upright than they should on this particular bike.
All in all a VERY reliable bike that can do basically anything you'd want a bike to do well (apart from offroading I guess) and can be had for very cheap but be aware that with that cheapness comes the need for replacement parts more than likely...don't be like me and ignore a chattering gearbox then lock the rear wheel at...speeds I shouldn't be doing...however if you prefer a more upright position though you CAN get conversion kits for that I'd still look at something else cus at that point you're really making the bike do something it wasn't made for.

This is one of the models i'm looking for my next "first bike" since i've had one almost 10 years ago. That was 99 CBR600. Now i'm looking for less sporty one.

great bikes I got a 92 model, I noticed they all seem to have a very whiney transmition mine sounds the same. I was worried it may be something going wrong with the gear box. I bought mine with 100,000 km on the clock, so I was a little concerned at first but all is good the bike was owned by an older man who never thrashed it. just toured around Australia on it. Is a really good sports bike.

Brought a 96 model a few months ago looks the same as yours mcycle24, only change on mine from standard seems to be the exhaust system, goes like a pocket rocket, when you consider that it matches the performance of 1100 1980's models. Cost was $4,000 AUD and it only had 44,000 kms on it ( you can convert to miles) Now thinking about buying a zx14r buy maybe next year

I can concur, i passed my test 5 years ago and before my test i bought a zzr600 in pieces in a big cardboard box, put it together, gave it all the tlc it required, passed my test, insured it and i remember saying goodbye to my 125cc bike and riding this zzr for the first time. It was 3 weeks of daily riding before i was brave enough to bring the revs to 8000rpm.. 5 years on i am still alive and the bike is too. Never dropped it or crashed. All i can say is it really will move when the time comes!

The transmission gear 2 problematic because the gear drum and the fork are usually faulty.
    Achilles' heel in this bike.

Im looking at a zzr1200 with 31k and a local zzr600 with 17k to use for touring and a bit of longer runs with light luggage on the rear seat. Can't make my mind up. Both are £3000.
Ive a gpz500s which i use for local rides to work and occasional 100 miles.

ZZR 1200 is a massive step up in weight and power from a GPZ 500 , Sounds like the 600 is your best bet.

@@mcycle24Thanks for yourreplybut I've had 60 bikes in my time. Been riding 39 years....I'm selling my VFR800X CROSSRUNNER for the ZZR600 as I want something easy to handle and fix.
I have a squashed lower disc and find upright a bit painful too.
