You don’t have to have Ragnarok magicite to learn Ultima. Equip the Paladin shield to learn it. I always turn it into a sword to get Illumina at the coliseum.
Zoneseek and Bismark are pretty awesome as an early espers...+2 magic power. Bismark +2 strength (vigor). Love having 2 strength based team members (Gau/Sabin, etc) and 2 magic based members (Terra/Celes, etc), then swapping the zoneseek and bismark esper to the person who is about to level up.

If you're referring to the shiny thing, I believe that is a warp-out point if you decide to revisit the cave and don't have the spell 👀
