I think he’s using his ADA mp1 setup. The big muff was too messy for live performances. Sounds very fuzzy tho so it has to be the big muff but during Gish era he used the ADA mp1
It's really odd how a lot of people complained that guitar solos went away in the 90's when literally every grunge band had incredible guitar players in them. I still don't really get it.
That's more in regards to well rehearsed, fast, clean solos that were played the same every time in bands like Poison and Motley Crue etc. Kurt Cobain pretty much stabbed that notion right in the face and we stopped seeing it so much.
@@guitaristssuck8979 That was an MTV thing(back when they actually played music), using it as a marketing tool. Just like they tried to market bands like Green Day & Blink 182 as punk, such an insult.
I always loved how Jimmy spun that cymbal. And it just occured to me that he was spinning it back like a record, as that's when the chords start running backwards, a la Ain't No Right by Jane's.
Anyone who heard this song early on in the Pumpkins’ career knew that they weren’t really about punk rock or any of its trappings, despite all the popular “grunge” and alternative bands paying it lip service. They were all about that BIG rock sound, the sound that would fill arenas for decades to come. And that’s why they’ve been my favorite band since I first heard them. Unbelievable how good they were, and continue to be.
The transition from the breakdown to the guitar solo at 3:10 trips me out. It's like the song almost falls apart and then comes rushing back with ferocity, One of the coolest little things I've ever seen a rock band do. Billy's long red hair is sick!
Siamese dream is one of my favourite records ever. Te tone is perfect, the solos are great, the songs are both original and have a hook, the drumming, the effects. It holds Cherub Rock which is the Sp tune I like best. And Gish is one of the best debut albums ever made, really neat to pop in, push play and let it run.
This is the song that an old drummer turned me onto them with, he's like you gotta hear these guys, yeah, blown away. Started it over & then yeah, Rhinoceros(still my favorite song by them). I don't if Gish came out before or after Lull, but picked that up shortly afterwards, their first two albums were masterpieces.
I remember the first time I saw Billy with his bald head.I was up late watching David Letterman while my Grandma slept nearby.I almost screamed.I was16 at the time and I said,"Holy crap! What did you do, Billy??" Then i got used to it. Hairy or hairless, I could care a less, the guy is beyond adorable. Though I always wondered what his hair with those curls he had would feel like, hoping that one day I'd get to find out, meet him, say you changed my life then stick my hands in his hair.
@@oompaloompadoompa-de-doo3614 Oh my gosh. You just made me re-read something I said 15 years ago! I was 29! 2009. yeah, looked up pumpkins gear and bought myself a reissue of the fender blender, it's a hard pedal to get used to but when you find the sounds that work it's a total godsend and yeah, he's probably fired some drive or crunch behind the fuzz of the pedal aswell.
I love godzilla! Then in 2021 got into Anime/manga Japan know how to create amazing products. So I always loved this moment in the 'Vieuphopria" always cracked me up
This shows BCs true virtuosity. James is a world class guitar player, but hiding in the corner trying to keep up. Billy plays like it's the easiest thing ever
YOUR ROCKSTAR FATHER LYNYRD SKYNYRD FREE BIRD IS THE GREATEST GUITARIST THAT'S EVER LIVED! THERE WENT JIMMY PAGE JIMI HENDRIX EDDIE VAN HALEN! NOBODY SHREDS A GUITAR LIKE YOUR ROCKSTAR FATHER!
All it takes is about 5 seconds of reading to know the Gish guitar was a yellow strat that Billy then painted. And a further few seconds to Google return of the Gish guitar and see paint markings on the returned guitar in exactly the same spot as the guitar shown in the video. It's far easier to assume you know what you are talking about than actually look into it. But what do I know.
this sounds kinda odd to me, what do those terms really mean? they are just expressing themselves and it sounds more like noise which is perfectly cool.
yea. James Iha the guitarist. He's a cool dude though sadly he's no longer with Billy's crew. Why can't life be fun. It's so damn sad as to what music has been reduced to with a bunch of copycats and all. does anybody here know some great music which is around?
Maybe it's part of a stolen SP stuff shrine in a room surrounded by printed out photos of the band taped on the walls, where clippings of D'Arcy's hair and other bodily and equipment-y stuff is placed and some insane fan has been droning on in chants before it for decades. Oh man, how old do I feel that I can say the band is decades old and so is my fandom?
no. this is not the guitar that was stolen. this guitar was seen in the single for cherub rock, and Billy played it on tour for Siamese Dream. the Yellow Gish guitar was stolen and not seen again for 25 plus years.
The expression on James' face is priceless...
Slunk is an amazing song it should have been in Gish
Gish should have been a double album, their pre-Gish material is THAT damn strong!
💯 agreed
Or at least Pisces Iscariot
That fuzz on Billys guitar is unreal. Sounds totally awesome, so distorted. I love this song, especially this performance.

"Grunge" as a musical term doesn't make any sense.

lol james doesn't understand a lick of japanese
Aggravates me that James wasn't shown at all during the song but had that awesome solo
I agree.
Cause he disgraced japan by losing the language. ;)
He's playing the last kind-of-solo
That solo was sick.
Back then Japan was so enamored by American white black whatever. They didn’t care to show another Asian or Japanese person. Ironic.

yeh hilarious interview and killer 'unreleased' song....

Billy is definitley tripping in the interview
They had not been playing since 1980, they weren't even a band yet then. They started in 1988
