Gore Elohim He's number 53 on the greatest drummers of all time list, according to this year's Rolling Stone "100 Greatest Drummers of All Time". However despite the name, the list mostly includes rock, pop and funk drummers (no jazz).
Gore Elohim Plus I heard his name mentioned many times in interviews by either other drummers or other musicians as the greatest 90's drummer many times before.
Billy: You guys I've got a great idea! Let's play one of our fastest and most intense songs ever written, only what do you say we play it 3 times faster and more intense?
I love this song. Smashing Pumpkins drummer is the greatest drummer to come out of the 90s. No one comes close to this guy. No one. Am I estimation Smashing Pumpkins is top three bands along with Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains to come out of the 90s.
For years I heard Smashing Pumpkins fans go on and on about how great a drummer Jimmy Chamberlin is but I never thought he was all that great... until seeing this video, that is. Jesus. He's a fucking monster.
@@goldenhourkodak Connor please tell us where we can see a show/festival with this much energy and NO cell phones!!!!!!???? We will be here waiting for your response.........🤔
@@cuteasxtreme Couldn't agree with you more piggy! Unfortunately it's because the industry is stuck in this pop culture/rap bullshit. It's too easy to make music nowadays with a loop machine. Kids these days don't want to put in the time it takes to play like Billy and others. Most would rather play video games and make loops on thier PC's. You don't need talent anymore, just a catchy beat and chorus will sell records. Maybe one day, real music will make a comeback. I'm just glad I was able to experience the 80's and 90's. Also that I was able to play gigs without everyone on thier cell phones.
@@bbqbum0077 I disagree with that. In fact the only shows that people really go crazy at nowadays are electronic shows and for good reason, a lot of that music is totally wild. Rock is in a lull because no one is really innovating and it's fallen into the old people music category. Hip hop also is pretty huge now but when many big rappers just lazily rap along to a track the shows don't get very exciting...
I was there - and I will never forget it. Some of this transcends music. It's pure, condensed, risky energy and bare emotion. A unique moment in time. I thought I over-estimated how great this performance was. Thank you for posting the video. It's nice to know that it really was an amazing moment.
What an experience that must have been! The Pumpkins' tempo changes are the best in the art! No one can do a breakdown and build-up on the level the Pumpkins can! The emotion is unrivaled!
Dammit. I had to turn my speakers up full to hear this. Then I went to the next video and forgot about it. Blew my ear drums. So I just came back here to bitch. Thankyou.
I showed my friend this video the other day and he said specifically this " You'll never see this now and days ". So damn true. Pumpkins had so much talent. I miss shit like this so much. 90's were the best.
Now that's what I call awesome experimentation. You know that its great considering how into the music he and the whole band is, which creates a dynamic for their sound. From my perspective as a musician, the entire basis of their sound just makes it completely easier to get into and experiment with.
Freakin' stoned, I was there, some 20m upfront to the left of the stage! Love how Billy played and teased us here...he knew exactly when he won us over, @7:17
I like to come back and watch this video at least once a year. Brings me right back. 94 was my freshman year in HS. I feel lucky to have been a teen during these years of amazing music!! This is one of my favorite live performances ever. And probably my favorite song from SD, along with Geek USA
***** What the fuck, SP were pretty heavily influenced by the pixies and youth, claiming something is pretentious is just a fancy way of saying you don't understand it.
***** So you're making ridiculous assumptions about my intelligence based on my interests and you're not even going to elaborate on your reasoning. I think we know which one of us isn't intelligent.
I’ve been coming back to this video every so often since I was 14. It still fucking rips just as much as it did then. Jimmy Chamberlin is the greatest drummer of all time.
Billy commanded the audience. Love the part where he finishes over the rainbow and the crowd goes crazy followed by a smirk from Billy. Must be an awesome feeling to see that.
the quality of sound is astonishing here ! totally magestic perfect clear soundsheck table recording . thanks for the upload bro ....i was there at pinkpop ...gracely .
Oh man those were the days, public and music 1:1 interaction. Sadly i missed that edition of Pinkpop but if only i knew what i missed, still have a headache on that. Powerful tones straight from wherever they got it from, just awesome... :-))
Never seen this footage. Wow, takes me back. Saw this tour, 3 times that year too. Inc famed Delmar show w/ Shudder to Think lead stripped down too B-day suit....
Jimmy has a Jazz background. In fact jazz drumming takes more skills and precise timing than some speed metal bands. The two greatest drummers I have seen live are Jimmy and Vinnie Paul from Pantera. But I may be biased because they are both my favorite bands of all time.
Sometimes I feel like the rest of the band is not at the same level as the drumer! I mean that person in the drums ... the drums are like an extension of his body and mind..he bends then to is needs..amazing for me in 38 years of life this is the best drummer ever!
Maybe one day Jimmy Chamberlin will receive the honor he's due as one of the most profoundly talented drummers ever to grace this planet.
I 💯 % agree Jimmy was the shit
Jimmy is the Bonham of pumpkins
Jimmy Chamberlain is extraordinary. Love that groove at the end of this song.
this is a proper comment
never
Most underrated drummer ever, literally.
He's actually always (well, since the 90's) been considered one of the best drummers in rock history. So I don't really know who's underrating him.
Cléo Z I"m not sure who "considered" him one of the best either. Who considered him?

Gore Elohim I believe Chamberlain and Carey from TOOL are the best modern day drummers.
Some say that man is still crowd surfing to this day
best youtube comment in history.
Tom Morello is head banging in the background between 8:13 and 8:26.
That just shows how awesome this performance is
Rage were playing there that year
Damn! That’s crazy to see
Billy: You guys I've got a great idea! Let's play one of our fastest and most intense songs ever written, only what do you say we play it 3 times faster and more intense?
This is what I imagine cocaine feels like
@craigm2520 it's exactly what cocaine feels like 👍🏿

Jazz trained, then let out of his cage.
Aphelion819 Exactly. Exhibit A) Ginger Baker
Yes, he is
You don't see bands on this level anymore. From a powerful acoustic driven song to an all out psychedelic metal...these guys could do it all
Yes you do.
No you don't. Look at that crowd reaction at 7:03, I can't name a band that can get a response like that nowadays.

This is the best live performance I’ve ever seen. Hands down.

How does this not have 100 million views. At their peak here. Pure energy and virtuosity
I feel bad for those drums that Jimmy is murdering in such a Beauitful way.
The entire Siamese Dream album is a got dayumn masterpiece!

I can't go loud enough!
Billy Corgan deserves credit as one of the greats.
James Iha - the most forgotten guitar player from this era.
I miss their hardcore stuff!! And the dude crowd surfing is my new hero lol!! Fk Yeah 💯🙌🤘⚡🎸⚡🥁🔥
As Crazy talented and good as Billy and Jimmy sound it wouldn't even be half as good without darcy and James, gotta give them some credit. (:
100% fact. The pure Pumpkins chemistry only exists with the original 4 members.

Seeing this in 2013 it only solidifies my assumption at the time that we were living in a musical renaissance. Can't wait for the next one!
Seriously, someone name another band in the last 30 years that can touch the artistic style that SP had in the 90s.
Tool, Radiohead, Soundgarden, The pixies and Sonic youth just to name a few.

Amazing. This whole. Pink pop performance
Yeah poor thing. I can relate though. My hair was as thick and curly as his when he was younger. It's thined so much. I'm only 18.
Prudence Miller I feel you man
Oooooh that sinister D'arcy bass line all the way through...great.
one of the better silverfucks out there. that dreamy midsection was just excellent.
what an awesome live performance!
Male pattern baldness is a sin.
?
mitchell johanson He’s referring to Billy, who was starting to bald at that time.
Jonah Fuerstenberg Omg you're so bad! 🤣😂
Balding, really? He’s reeeeaaalllly attractive. The guitar shredding, wow.
damn this is proof that he's an underrated singer...
Best live performance of this song

My teenage years right there, takes me back to amazing times
Jimmy is 50% of the smashing pumpkins
Jimmy is the craziest drummer ever.. Crazy in a good way..

I grew up with this music. Now I have to see what my kids are growing up with and I feel bad for them...
I’m surprised Billy can focus with that Beast on the. Drums
Just absolutely fantastic

I was a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan when I was a kid back when Mellon Collie came out. So this was interesting to see.
This is incredible.
james iha's strumming hand is like some terminator shit.
Holy Crap!
I've just realised...Chamberlin isn't human, No human can play drums like that!!!
Never seen this footage. Wow, takes me back. Saw this tour, 3 times that year too. Inc famed Delmar show w/ Shudder to Think lead stripped down too B-day suit....

Fuc*ing Epic!!!
To quote Billy: "at one point, you have to choose between being an artist or an entertainer."
I don`t fully agree, but he does have a point.
Whammy!
I missed out on the pumpkins in the 90’s! Unreal
Jimmy's left leg. My goodness, Jimmy's left leg.
miss D'Arcy and James
This is just awesome! I love this gig!
How good must it have felt for Billy then knowing that as his great talent ascended whatever platform he laid down his drummer was ahead of him.
Drummer is in God Mode
Those cymbals LOOK amazing.
The best performance of this song, in MY COUNTRY! Woohoo!
Peak pumpkins were completely electrifying!
Billy is so skilled with his guitar, and Jimmy's a beast on those drums!
